That expands the circular part of the clamp, allowing it to fit over the end of a hose. Longitudinal movement of one elongated member relative to the other is accomplished by a handle pivotally mounted on one of the members extending toward the jaws. One end of a link is pivotally connected to an intermediate part of the handle, and the other end of the link is pivotally connected to the other member.

The mandrel means includes a lug-retaining groove means into which retainer ring lugs having special flats are compressed and retained interiorly of the ring to hold the ring at reduced assembly size. The compressed retainer ring is carried to the assembly location outside the compressing means on the mandrel means and is stripped from the mandrel means for final assembly internally in a part. The ring compressing assembly is carried on a first slide for movement between a ring load position and a ring assembly position.

    Abstract: A generally cylindrical adapter which may be used with a conventional C-clamp valve spring compressor is made of a material such as nylon which will not scratch the cam follower bore of an overhead cam engine. The adapter has a groove in its upper portion for connecting to the jaw assembly of the C-clamp compressor, and has a flat annular lower end face for applying the compressing force from the C-clamp compressor to the valve spring assembly. As the compressing force is applied, the valve stem will be received in a central axial opening in the adapter, until the collets become accessible through lateral openings or access ports in the lower portion of the adapter. The collets may thus be removed through the lateral openings for disassembly of the valve spring assembly or may be returned to the valve stem through the lateral openings for reassembly. The adapter provides sufficient clearance so that the C-clamp compressor may be used to compress the valve spring of an overhead cam engine.

    Abstract: Ring travelers supplied on a magazine strip are transferred to a magazine bar by pulling at the magazine strip in a predetermined direction. The preparatorily-held ring traveler is clamped between the hook and a separator element in a tongue-like manner. The separator element is connected to a housing structured as a handle by means of a pivotable support. To mount the ring traveler at the angular flange of the spinning or twisting ring the handle-like housing must be retracted, and during this retraction the magazine bar which is mounted at a slide is pulled out from the housing against the force of a spring.

When one spherical ball detent, in response to the mode control means being preconditioned by depressing a front end or shaft portion of the inner element, is positioned to lock the outer member to the handle, this allows the ring to be installed onto the cam shaped front end of the outer element.

The head portion has a longitudinal slot extending toward the handle a short distance to define a shaft receptacle between two parallel legs. A U-shaped shaft guide depends from the ends of the legs. The ring-engaging means is defined by the ends of the legs. A second embodiment is a pliers-like tool which includes two intersecting elongated members pivotally connected together at their intersection.

The ring-engaging means is defined by the ends of the legs. A second embodiment is a pliers-like tool which includes two intersecting elongated members pivotally connected together at their intersection.

Means are provided to pivot the outside pins out around the center pin and then toward each other to fold the rod seal in a generally C-shape configuration whereby the rod seal and tool can be inserted into the cylinder to align the rod seal with the cylinder rod seal groove. The pins are released to allow the seal to expand toward its nominal ring shape with at least part of the seal in the groove.
