  • Patent number: 10443355
Abstract: Provided are systems for connecting a control line to an intelligent tool positioned below a lateral borehole junction in accordance with the disclosure and the illustrated FIGURES. An example system comprises a lateral deflector. The lateral deflector comprises a lateral deflector body, a lateral deflector top coupled to the lateral deflector body, a deflection surface, and a feedthrough which is covered by the lateral deflector top when the lateral deflector top is coupled to the lateral deflector body. The lateral deflector top is removable and configured to be decoupled from the lateral deflector body. The system further comprises a tubular string, a control line connector head coupled to the tubular string, a first control line coupled to the feedthrough and descending downhole of the lateral borehole junction, and a second control line coupled to the control line connector head and descending downhole from the surface.

  • Patent number: 7596847
Abstract: Improved sucker rod joints for down hole petroleum pumping applications are provided within the form factor of standard API sucker rods, such that existing inventory in suitable condition is fully usable in more demanding applications. The pin ends are selected or processed such as to provide preselected axial distance between a flat pin end and at least one reference surface, such as a threaded region or reference shoulder or both. The coupler is dimensioned such that the pin ends are in abutment either with each other or with opposite sides of an intervening torque washer in the central region, when the connection is made to a selected level of thread engagement. Furthermore, the engagement is such as to put the pin ends in compression and the coextensive length of coupler in tension. This increases frictional restraints and locks the elements together to resist fatigue failure upon cycling and to insure together with an anaerobic adhesive sealant, against back threading.

  • Patent number: 7024754
Abstract: A method is provided for assembling an actuator assembly of a disk drive. The method includes providing an actuator arm, providing a suspension arm, fixing a swage plate to the suspension arm, the swage plate including a swage boss extending therefrom, depositing a film lubricant upon at least an outer surface of the swage boss, and attaching the suspension arm to the actuator arm by swaging. A method is also provided for reducing torque out retention values between the actuator arm and the suspension arm when the actuator arm and suspension arm must be separated in a subsequent de-swaging process. This method includes providing an outer surface of the swage boss, and applying a lubricant film coating to the outer surface of the swage boss. A preferred thin film lubricant may be applied by emersion and draining, localized spraying, or various deposition processes.

  • Patent number: 5123829
Abstract: A rod guide remover is provided for splitting rod guides away from a sucker rod without risk of damage to the rod. A set of opposing blades are used which are kept a selected distance apart by stop members that abruptly contact a set of rod supports for preventing injury to the rod. The gap distances are selected over a relatively narrow range to insure complete splitting of all types of guides yet provide sufficient tolerance to protect the rod.

  • Patent number: 4750252
Abstract: A tool and method for installing and removing twist-on rod guides onto and off from sucker rods. A partially closed C-shaped jaw member lying substantially in a first plane surrounds the guide and the sucker rod allowing torque to be applied to the rod guide to enable it to be snapped onto or off from the sucker rod. A pry bar and handle are attached to the jaw member and lie substantially in a second plane that forms preferably about a 20.degree. angle with the first plane. A linear projection of the pry bar into the first plane projects from the edge of the lower jaw at a right angle.

  • Patent number: 4209891
Abstract: Apparatus for positioning a first part with respect to a second part is characterized by a cylindrical guide respectively attachable to each part, a helical surface being disposed on each guide, each helical surface including a right hand half and a left hand half. A piston-cylinder is disposed on the second part, the piston being extendable to engage the guide on the first part to axially align the guides. After alignment, the piston is retractable to bring the helical surfaces into contact to generate a torque and align the parts. In another embodiment, the guide for the second part is formed on the piston while the guide on the first part has an axial alignment member projecting therefrom to engage the guide on the second part to align the guides. Once aligned, the helical surfaces contact each other with the piston extended. The contact between the helical surfaces causes the rotational alignment of the second part with respect to the first part.

  • Patent number: 3987527
Abstract: A mechanism employed for cutting and stripping a plurality of wires simultaneously by means of a single lever which is moved in a first direction to cut the plurality of wires and in a second direction to strip a length of insulation from the cut wires. The mechanism includes a base support and a carriage pivotally mounted thereto. The carriage supports the wire knife and anvil, the stripper knives, a cam arrangement for actuating the wire knife and stripper knives and the control lever. An automatic lock is provided which prevents the carriage from pivotting to strip the wires when the cutting operation is being performed and also prevents return of the wire knife and stripper knife when the stripping operation is being carried out. The mechanism is employed in this embodiment with wire positioning and clamping means. An assembly is used to stress the clamping means to insure the retention of the wires held therein.
