    Abstract: The riveter of the invention comprises a shaft, a rolling nut, a jaw mechanism, a head frame, a rotary drive shaft, a clutch mechanism disengageably coupling the rolling nut with the rotary drive shaft, a generally cylindrical journal frame and a cylindrical main frame. After a blind rivet having a drill point is inserted into a nose piece of this riveter, the main frame and rotary drive shaft are rotated in a suitable manner, whereby the desired drilling of the rivet hole and riveting operation can be accomplished. The riveter may alternatively comprise a shaft, a rolling nut, a jaw mechanism, a head frame, a rotary drive shaft, a rear clutch mechanism disengageably coupling the rolling nut with the rotary drive shaft, a generally cylindrical journal frame, a cylindrical main frame, a front cover, a rear cover and a forward clutch mechanism.

    Abstract: A machining system for performing heavy duty milling and other repair operations under water is disclosed herein which is particularly useful in performing repair and maintenance operations in the core barrels of nuclear reactors. The machining system generally comprises a platform, a machining device which is detachably connectable to the platform which includes a drive motor and cutter necessary to effect the repair or maintenance operation, and a triaxial adjustment mechanism which permits the machine cutter to be precisely positioned at any desired location within the core barrel. The platform has a guide mechanism which includes both a rough and a fine guide means which precisely positions the machining device with respect to the platform when it is lowered thereon. A hydraulically operated lock remotely and detachably secures the machining device into position on the platform after the guide mechanism has properly positioned it.

    Abstract: A replacement station includes an old split-pin-assembly (OSPA) removal stand and a new split-pin-assembly (NSPA) installation stand. The removal stand includes a saw and a drill. With the guide tube to which the OSPA is secured in the removal stand, the saw severs each OSPA below the flange which engages the base of the lower counterbore in the lower guide tube (LGT) separating the OSPA into a pin fragment and a second fragment including the flange and the remainder of the split-pin with the nut threaded into it. The second fragment remains secured to the LGT after the sawing operation. The guide tube is rotated so that the drill is coaxial with the shank of the pin of the second fragment. The second fragment is separated into a third fragment including the flange and a fourth fragment including the remainder of the pin and the nut both removable from the LGT. The installation stand has NSPA blades in which the new split pins are mounted. The LGT sans the OSPA's is positioned on the installation stand.

    Abstract: An apparatus for rebuilding vehicle axles permits rapid repair at the failure site. The rebuilding apparatus includes a substantially conventional boring machine having specially configured mounting components which facilitate securement of the apparatus to various axle structures. Such components include a plurality of mounting plates, one of which is selected to match the bolt circle pattern on a specific axle. The plate is secured to the axle and the boring machine is secured to the plate. Vertical and horizontal adjustment devices facilitate accurate alignment of the boring tool with the vehicle axle.

    Abstract: A generally portable sheet material cutting tool comprising apparatus having a substantially stationary sleeve member with a free end and a cutting tool reciprocable within the sleeve member, the cutting tool having both a transverse cutting edge formed along its length cooperable with the free end of the sleeve member and an initial hole forming means extending beyond the free end of the sleeve member. The reciprocation of the cutting tool is effected by cam means acting in response to rotary motion supplied by a hand held drill unit or by a rotary drive motor, the cam means being capable of being disengaged by axial pressure applied to the initial hole forming means. In one form of the apparatus the transverse cutting edge is given both a reciprocating and a rotating component of motion, and in a modified form of the apparatus the transverse cutting edge is restrained for reciprocating movement only.
