Thread Protector (e.g., Wheel Axle Type) Patents (Class 29/277)
  • Publication number: 20150117977
Abstract: A drive-in bushing (14) is provided for the releasable connection of a fiber-reinforced plastic first component of a motor vehicle structure to a fiber-reinforced plastic or metal second component of the motor vehicle structure. The drive-in bushing (14) has a sleeve-like basic body (15) manufactured from a metal and having an external wall (16) formed without a thread, and an internal wall (17) formed with an internal thread (18). The drive-in bushing (14) can be driven into a recess in the fiber-reinforced plastic of the first component (11). A screw penetrates a recess in the second component and can be screwed into the internal thread (18).

Abstract: A tool and method for removing draw wedge bolt during replacement of the kingpin of a steering system assembly is disclosed. The tool is adapted to attach to the threaded end of a draw wedge bolt of a steering system assembly. After the tool is attached, sufficient force can be applied to the impact end of the tool using a manual or pneumatic hammer without damaging the draw wedge bolt. The tool also provides an adapter which allows the tool to affix to various sized draw wedge bolts from different vehicle manufacturers. The impact end of the tool is also keyed to be able to be turned by a wrench of a socket. This tool and method allow for faster and easier removal of the draw wedge bolts than previous methods.

  • Patent number: 8281469
Abstract: Apparatus for removing a sealing plug from a bore, the sealing plug has an outer sleeve and an inner stem retained within the outer sleeve, the removal taking place after a suitable hole has been drilled part-way into the stem, the removal apparatus has a tapered punch for forcible insertion into the hole in the stem to create an interference fit between the punch and the stem and thereafter driving the stem out of the sleeve while also retaining the stem on the punch by virtue of the interference fit, and sleeve-engaging portion engagable with the sleeve after the punch has removed the stem from the sleeve, the sleeve-engaging portion and the punch being thereafter removable from the bore to remove both the sleeve and the stem from the bore while the sleeve and the stem are both retained on the appropriate parts of the apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20090293258
Abstract: An anchor insertion rod is disclosed for use with an anchor insertion tool removable secured therein for the installation and setting of anchors. The anchor insertion rod comprises an outer member and an inner member slidably mounted within the outer member, whereby the inner member can be extended to increase the length of the insertion rod. Upper and lower stop members are positioned on the insertion rod, along with a slide hammer surrounding a portion of the insertion rod that moves along the insertion rod between the upper and lower stop members. To install an anchor, the insertion rod is raised to align an anchor within the anchor insertion tool with a pre-drilled hole in the surface in which the anchor is to be mounted. The slide hammer is moved to forcibly contact the upper stop member to impart an impacting force to insert the anchor. The anchor is set by moving the slide hammer to contact the lower stop member and impart a setting force to the lower stop member.

  • Patent number: 4984346
Abstract: An axle wedge removal tool assembly is set forth utilizing an elongate body formed with a first through-extending bore of a first diameter terminating and removed from a second end with a counter bore threaded internally of a second diameter greater than the first diameter for securement relative to a threaded stud of an axle. An impact tool is utilized with a forward blunt end to cooperate with a forward blunt end of an associated wheel stud whereupon the elongate body, upon securement to a threaded axle stud, aligns the associated impact tool that is secured to an associated impact driver. An axle wedge securing and aligning the stud relative to a hub housing is vibrated loose relative to the hub housing for removal to enable removal of the hub housing relative to an associated wheel assembly.

  • Patent number: 4525915
Abstract: A thread cover is attached to the terminal end of a threaded shaft in a releasable manner. The thread cover includes a main body having a magnet at one end thereof and a plurality of flexible arms affixed to the opposed end thereof. The main body is magnetically attached to the threaded shaft end, and the flexible arms are arranged to be adjacent to and cover the main body as well as the threads of the shaft end. When the threaded end of the shaft is extended through a seal means, the arms prevent the threads of the shaft from engaging and damaging the interior of the seal means. After the threaded end of the shaft has been telescopingly extended through the seal means, the thread cover is easily removed from the shaft end.
