Publication number: 20020004984Abstract: The present invention is a hand-held stripping tool. The tool is adapted for cutting an outer sheath of a first electrical cable. Inside the sheath is parallel spaced apart insulation covered wires and a core member containing an uncovered ground wire between the insulation covered wires. The sheath has spaced apart curved sides conforming to the covered wires. The tool has spaced apart first and second jaw members adapted to be pressed together. The jaw members have cutting edges that receive a portion of the first cable along its length. The cutting edges define an opening configured to cut the sheath and the core without significantly cutting the insulation on the wires or the unsheathed ground wire when the jaw members are pressed together to form the opening. The portion of the sheath is then removed in one continuous process.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 7, 2001Publication date: January 17, 2002Applicant: Stride Tool Inc.Inventor: Leonard R. Murg

Patent number: 5634763Abstract: A method and apparatus for accurately positioning parts precisely in a predetermined location, including a frame having a part receiving zone on which said parts are placed for movement to the predetermined location. Two positioners are mounted on linear bearings connected to the frame and are connected to a cable for opposed motion toward and away from the part on the receiving zone under control of the cable. The cable is trained around a four pulleys mounted on said frame and connected to a cable cylinder. The cable passes axially through cylinder and connects to a piston on the centerline of the piston. Movement of the piston in one direction in the cylinder is operative to move the cable and the attached positioners toward each other to center the part. Movement of the piston in the opposite direction moves the positioners away from each other to release the part.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1994Date of Patent: June 3, 1997Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventor: Oldrich Fryc

Patent number: 4995299Abstract: A tool is provided for removing plastic grommets embedded within concrete to be post-tensioned. The tool has a conical shaped head for insertion into the grommet sleeve. The tool includes a wide bore that extends through the entire tool which slips over a central protrusion of the post-tension concrete grommet. The bore is open along its entire length so that the head may be slipped over a cable used to post-tension the concrete. The conical section further includes 2 radially extending slots spaced 90.degree. apart which extend from the bore to the outer periphery of the conical section. These slots transmit the torque to the grommet through wings connected to the sleeve. A hole is provided within the tool for connection of a handle to the tool. The handle manually turns the tool about the axis of the bore, thereby delivering torque to the grommet and releasing it from its embedded position within the concrete.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1990Date of Patent: February 26, 1991Inventor: Gary M. Patent number: 4934037Abstract: A tool to aid in the removal of an impeller from its respective shaft. The tool has two arms. One of the arms has gripping means in which the impeller vane is placed. The other arm has a hole through it so that the tool may be affixed to a rigid structure such as the pump impeller housing. The attachment of the tool of the present invention to a rigid structure allows the impeller to be fixed in position so that any rotary motion of the shaft does not cause the impeller to move.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1989Date of Patent: June 19, 1990Inventors: Carl D. Patent number: 4919322Abstract: A hand held, spring actuated single stroke piston desoldering instrument having a removable, replaceable nozzle tip in combination with a novel removal tool which also serves as a holder for several spare tips is disclosed. The barrel of the desoldering instrument is one-piece molded and includes an end cap portion with a forwardly protruding nose portion having a nozzle retaining central bore therethrough. The novel replaceable nozzle element has two annular grooves formed about its periphery: the first mates with an annular reduced diameter shoulder within the retaining bore of the end cap; the second is normally disposed forwardly of an outside of the end cap where it may be gripped by a pair of flexible jaws on the removal tool.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1989Date of Patent: April 24, 1990Inventors: William S. Patent number: 4914798Abstract: A power transmission gear assembly puller for use on the General Motors 440 power transmission, facilitating the accessibility of power transmision gears for repair and maintenance. A novel means for removing a gear assembly incorporating a shaft with an expandable seat on one end on which the gear assembly rests when expanded. A unique means for expanding the seat while inside the gear assembly through the shaft from the handle. The gear assembly puller reduces transmission repair time significantly while providing ease of gear assembly removal, as well as safety with regard to the technician's hands.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1989Date of Patent: April 10, 1990Inventor: Charles I. Patent number: 4882960Abstract: A lawn mower blade lock is provided which is especially useful for servicing a lawn mower by enabling both lifting one side of a lawn mower to expose the blade and simultaneously securing the blade of the mower against rotation during efforts to remove the blade. The lock includes a handle and a pair of blade constraining barriers which extend beneath the mower deck and resist rotation, combined with a locking mechanism which attaches to the mower deck. The locking mechanism preferably includes a threaded shank which clamps the mower deck between the barriers and an abutment on the shank for resisting rotation of the blade relative to the deck. In this manner, the lock is easy to attach and remove, and thus is also useful during storage of the mower to prevent inadvertent starting of the lawn mower by children. Moreover, the lawn mower blade lock is economical to construct and easy to attach.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1988Date of Patent: November 28, 1989Inventor: Jack L. Kugler

Patent number: 4856169Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for compressing a retainer ring to reduced assembly size and maintaining the compressed ring assembly size at an assembly location by internal containment means. The apparatus typically includes a ring compressing assembly for compressing the ring from the exterior and mandrel means disposed in the compressing means and around which the ring is compressed to assembly size. The mandrel means includes a lug-retaining groove means into which retainer ring lugs having special flats are compressed and retained interiorly of the ring to hold the ring at reduced assembly size. The compressed retainer ring is carried to the assembly location outside the compressing means on the mandrel means and is stripped from the mandrel means for final assembly internally in a part. The ring compressing assembly is carried on a first slide for movement between a ring load position and a ring assembly position.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1988Date of Patent: August 15, 1989Assignee: Micro-Precision Operations Inc.Inventor: Deryll Liechty

Patent number: 4852231Abstract: A device for installation and removal of a wrist pin from a piston includes a press pin having an upper end for engaging a hydraulic ram and a lower end section of reduced diameter which engages into the bore of the upper end of a wrist pin. The lower end of the wrist pin is engaged by an end section of reduced diameter of a guide pin, the end section of reduced diameter having at least one groove encircling its circumference and having an O-ring engaged in the groove. The press pin, wrist pin and guide pin engage together to form a substantially rectilinear rod-like structure, enabling the wrist pin to be inserted through the shaft of the piston and eye of the connecting rod without damage to the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1987Date of Patent: August 1, 1989Inventor: James E.
