Abstract: A method for continuous rolling includes flash-butt welding to form a continuous billet by joining a rear end of a preceding billet with a front end of a succeeding billet, removing burrs from a welded portion of the joined part, and continuously rolling the joined continuous billet in a rolling mill group. The flash-butt welding step includes the use of two travelling welders arranged in series and spaced at a distance along the direction of movement of the continuous billet corresponding to the length of the billet being welded. The travelling welders synchronously move with the continuous billet, and separately and simultaneously weld the continuous billet to another billet by flash-butt welding so as to extend the length of the continuous billet.
Abstract: Method and relative line for the continuous rolling of plate and/or strip, starting from at least two lines for the continuous casting of thin slabs (11) of between 60 and 120 mm thick, the pre-slabs being continuously cast within a limited range of thicknesses of between 70 and 140 mm and at a speed of up to 6+7 meters per minute, the pre-slabs then being transformed into slabs by a process of soft-reduction (112) which reduces the thickness of the individual pre-slab by 5 to 40 mm so as to obtain a range of slabs with a defined thickness using the the same crystallizer, and the rolled product (111) now in a strip leaving the roughing train (17) being sent to the finishing train (20), the leading end of the strip as it arrives being connected to the trailing end of the strip being rolled so as to form a substantially continuous product fed to the finishing train (20), the connection being made by a welding machine (24) positioned upstream of the finishing train (20), the end-of-rolling temperature being betw
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically welding and handling welded tailored blank composites. The method comprises the steps of transferring first and second sheet component parts from respective input stacks to an assembly table of a welding machine. The sheet components are disposed in a butt joint or an overlapping lap joint configuration and the blanks are welded together along a weld seam thus defining a welded blank. The welded blank is conveyed in a timed step manner from the welding machine to an output stacking machine via a magnetic stepping conveyor and the blank is transferred from the conveyor to an output stack of completed blanks with a stacking machine. An apparatus is provided to carry out the method.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically welding and handling mash welded tailored blank composites. The method comprises the steps of transferring first and second sheet component parts from respective input stacks to an assembly table of a mash welding machine. The sheet components are disposed in an overlapping lap joint configuration and the lap joint is welded along a linear weld seam thus defining a welded blank. The welded blank is conveyed in a timed step manner from the welding machine to an output stacking machine via a magnetic stepping conveyor and the blank is transferred from the conveyor to an output stack of completed blanks with a stacking machine. An apparatus is provided to carry out the method.
Abstract: In the continuous manufacture of hot strip material, slabs are produced by a pair of continuous casters and heated to a rolling temperature in a bi-level roller hearth furnace. Hot slabs are discharged from the bi-level furnace alternately from its upper and lower roller hearths. The slabs are then scarfed to clean oxide scale from both sides and to heat the slabs to a temperature of about 2300.degree. F. The scarfed ends of adjacent slabs are overlapped and passed through a two high slab mill welder wherein the overlapped ends are joined together. The joined slabs are thereafter finish rolled to strip gauge in a continuous multi-stand hot strip mill.
Abstract: An apparatus for bending hollow profile strips into spacer frames for insulating glass panes, comprises an inclined supporting wall 1, at the bottom rim 8 of which at least one bending head 2 is arranged. A conveyor track 20 feds hollow profile strips to be bent into spacer frames. A device 40 transfers the hollow profile strips from the conveyor track 20 into supports 7 in the zone of the bottom rim 8 of the supporting wall 1. This assembly is provided behind the supporting wall 1. Thereby, the space behind the supporting wall 1 is utilized and the front side of the apparatus remains vacant so that it is accessible for an operator without any danger, and mounting space is saved.
Abstract: A method of producing a finely structured body comprised of a plurality of stacked, cut sections of foil at least one of which is provided with grooves. A machinable foil is wrapped around a cylindrical mandrel of a lathe to overlap opposing edges. The overlapped edges are clamped into an axial recess of the cylindrical mandrel by means of a clamping means and a plurality of grooves cut into the surface of the foil by means of at least one shaping diamond positioned in a feed which is finely adjustable. The plurality of grooves each have a groove length, a groove width, and a cross-sectional shape that is constant over the groove length and is freely selectable. Then, the grooved machinable foil is cut into cut sectoins and the cut sections are stacked. The plurality of grooves have a form precision such that, for groove lengths of more than 1000 .mu.m, the groove width has an accuracy of about .+-.1 .mu.m for land widths which equal or exceed about 15 .mu.m.
Abstract: A machine tool with automatic changeable tables that has an immobile bed unit. Mounted on the bed unit are linear guides. Multiple table units move along the linear guides for mounting and dismounting workpieces. The table units are placed on the linear guides and into position by a transferring drive unit. The present invention allows workpieces to be mounted and dismounted at a remote area while machining is in process.
Abstract: In a roller leveler having a number of work rollers, an improvement is proposed when a junction of metal web passes. Position detecting circuitry detects the junction of the metal web to output a detection signal. In response to the detection signal, an arithmetic unit applies an instruction signal to a depression control unit so that an amount of adjustment to be given to the metal web in the roller leveler is controlled to a suitable value.
Abstract: In the production of metal- and other strip materials in continuous lengths and in several operations or processing facilities, such strip is wound into coils of finite length after each operation, then transported to the next operation and again welded into one continuous web, coil after coil.In order to avoid this wasteful practice a method and apparatus is disclosed which consists in feeding said strip emerging from one operation, without cutting it, directly into a variable capacity accumulator and feeding it out again from said accumulator into the apparatus of the following operation at the speed that such operation requires.
Abstract: A pipe-welding mill for production of coiled pipes from coiled strips comprises a coil preparation section including unwinders disposed in a manner allowing displacement thereof in a direction perpendicular to the direction of pipe movement, and a magazine including a reel with set-up coils, the mill further including a strip coupler, shaping, welding, and drawing stands, a coiling arrangement with bending rollers, and cutting and receiving arrangements, the components being successively installed in the direction of pipe movement. Guide or receiving rollers of the receiving arrangement are located on a platform installed in a manner allowing the platform tilt with respect to the axes of the bending rollers, the receiving rollers being connected to the output shaft of the drive of the bending rollers through a universal joint.

Abstract: A continuous cold reduction mill for metal strip in which the trailing end of a metal strip passing through the mill is welded to the leading end of a metal strip coming off a new coil without stopping the mill, the trailing end portion of the metal strip passing through the mill being paid out from a metal strip storage system during the welding operation with a resulting loss of close control of the lateral metal strip position at the entry side of the first mill stand, the present invention providing means associated with a metal strip back tensioning unit ahead of the first mill stand for correcting the lateral position of the metal strip issuing from the metal strip storage system while applying the tension of the metal strip in the metal strip storage system to the metal strip entry side of the back tensioning unit.
