Patent number: 6041993Abstract: A method for continuous rolling includes flash-butt welding to form a continuous billet by joining a rear end of a preceding billet with a front end of a succeeding billet, removing burrs from a welded portion of the joined part, and continuously rolling the joined continuous billet in a rolling mill group. The flash-butt welding step includes the use of two travelling welders arranged in series and spaced at a distance along the direction of movement of the continuous billet corresponding to the length of the billet being welded. The travelling welders synchronously move with the continuous billet, and separately and simultaneously weld the continuous billet to another billet by flash-butt welding so as to extend the length of the continuous billet.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1997Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: NKK CorporationInventors: Giichi Matsuo, Susumu Okawa, Hiroshi Fujii

Patent number: 5490315Abstract: In the continuous manufacture of hot strip material, slabs are produced by a pair of continuous casters and heated to a rolling temperature in a bi-level roller hearth furnace. Hot slabs are discharged from the bi-level furnace alternately from its upper and lower roller hearths. The slabs are then scarfed to clean oxide scale from both sides and to heat the slabs to a temperature of about 2300.degree. F. The scarfed ends of adjacent slabs are overlapped and passed through a two high slab mill welder wherein the overlapped ends are joined together. The joined slabs are thereafter finish rolled to strip gauge in a continuous multi-stand hot strip mill.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1994Date of Patent: February 13, 1996Assignee: Italimpianti of America, Inc.Inventors: Peter Kostopolos, Giuseppe Facco

Patent number: 5394725Abstract: An apparatus for bending hollow profile strips into spacer frames for insulating glass panes, comprises an inclined supporting wall 1, at the bottom rim 8 of which at least one bending head 2 is arranged. A conveyor track 20 feds hollow profile strips to be bent into spacer frames. A device 40 transfers the hollow profile strips from the conveyor track 20 into supports 7 in the zone of the bottom rim 8 of the supporting wall 1. This assembly is provided behind the supporting wall 1. Thereby, the space behind the supporting wall 1 is utilized and the front side of the apparatus remains vacant so that it is accessible for an operator without any danger, and mounting space is saved.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1993Date of Patent: March 7, 1995Inventor: Pater Lisec

Patent number: 5152060Abstract: A method of producing a finely structured body comprised of a plurality of stacked, cut sections of foil at least one of which is provided with grooves. A machinable foil is wrapped around a cylindrical mandrel of a lathe to overlap opposing edges. The overlapped edges are clamped into an axial recess of the cylindrical mandrel by means of a clamping means and a plurality of grooves cut into the surface of the foil by means of at least one shaping diamond positioned in a feed which is finely adjustable. The plurality of grooves each have a groove length, a groove width, and a cross-sectional shape that is constant over the groove length and is freely selectable. Then, the grooved machinable foil is cut into cut sectoins and the cut sections are stacked. The plurality of grooves have a form precision such that, for groove lengths of more than 1000 .mu.m, the groove width has an accuracy of about .+-.1 .mu.m for land widths which equal or exceed about 15 .mu.m.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 1991Date of Patent: October 6, 1992Assignees: Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe GmbH, Messerschmidt-Bolkow-BlohmInventors: Klaus Schubert, Wilhelm Bier, Gerd Linder, Peter Schmid, Peter Bichler, Winfried Brunner, Wolfgang Simon

Patent number: 4887343Abstract: In a roller leveler having a number of work rollers, an improvement is proposed when a junction of metal web passes. Position detecting circuitry detects the junction of the metal web to output a detection signal. In response to the detection signal, an arithmetic unit applies an instruction signal to a depression control unit so that an amount of adjustment to be given to the metal web in the roller leveler is controlled to a suitable value.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1988Date of Patent: December 19, 1989Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventor: Hirohiko Ohishi

Patent number: 4552299Abstract: In the production of metal- and other strip materials in continuous lengths and in several operations or processing facilities, such strip is wound into coils of finite length after each operation, then transported to the next operation and again welded into one continuous web, coil after coil.In order to avoid this wasteful practice a method and apparatus is disclosed which consists in feeding said strip emerging from one operation, without cutting it, directly into a variable capacity accumulator and feeding it out again from said accumulator into the apparatus of the following operation at the speed that such operation requires.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1984Date of Patent: November 12, 1985Inventor: Tadeusz Sendzimir
