Fastener (zipper) Patents (Class 29/34A)
  • Patent number: 5778519
Abstract: In manufacturing slide fasteners, especially fastener elements, an elongated wire of a generally Y-shape cross section with attaching legs shaped into a generally C form by rolling, is supplied intermittently at a predetermined pitch and is then cut into slices of element blanks having a predetermined thickness, and a protuberance is formed on the coupling head of each of the successive element blanks. Then, the generally C-shape attaching legs are calked from opposite sides to mount the fastener elements on a fastener tape and, at the same time, the generally right-angled cut edges of the attaching legs are shaped into a smooth arcuate profile as pressed by a calking surface of a calking punch.

  • Patent number: 5495655
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a slide-fastener coupling element from a metal wire having a substantially Y-shaped cross section wherein a blank piece is cut or sliced off from the metal wire by a co-action between a cutoff die and a cutoff punch, and substantially at the same time, the metal wire is chamfered along a next cutting line by a chamfering edge so as to form a substantially V-shaped groove extending in and along the peripheral surface of a head portion of the metal wire and the outside surface of each of two opposed leg portion of the metal wire. The next slicing operation produces a blank piece which is already chamfered at its upper and lower peripheral edges extending along the peripheral surface of the head portion and the outside surfaces of respective leg portions of the blank piece.

  • Patent number: 5361471
Abstract: As it is intermittently supplied, a blank wire having a generally Y-shape cross section is cut into slices of a predetermined thickness by a cutting punch, which is fixed to the frame, and a coacting cutting die, which is reciprocatingly movable in the cutting direction. Then a bulge is formed on the head portion of the cut coupling element by a bulge forming die, which is connected with the forward end in stroke direction of the cutting die, and a coacting bulge forming punch, which is movable upwardly and downwardly. The cutting punch is equipped with preventing means on the upper side of the end of a blade for preventing the cut coupling element from jumping up from the blade, so that a bulge can be formed on the head portion reliably, without giving any damage to peripheral equipments.

  • Patent number: 5357663
Abstract: In a slide fastener coupling element forming apparatus, a blank wire of a generally Y-shape cross section intermittently supplied at a predetermined pitch is cut off into pieces of a predetermined thickness by a fixed cutting punch and a reciprocating cutting die, and then a bulge for the head portion of a coupling element is formed by a forming die and a forming punch movable upwardly and downwardly to coact with the forming die. The forming die is located to be connected with the forward end in the stroke direction of the cutting die, and the forming punch is located upwardly of the bulge forming station. Then the opposite leg portions of a coupling element are pushed out of the mold of the forming die by a vertically movable ejector pin located under the leg portions on the forming die to discharge the formed coupling element from the forming die.

  • Patent number: 4657500
Abstract: In an apparatus for forming a row of zigzag coupling elements, a winding unit includes a guide plate having a guide hole through which a monofilament is supplied onto a periphery of a continuously rotating die wheel. The guide plate is driven by two separate drive mechanisms, for lateral reciprocating movement and tangential reciprocating movement, respectively, with respect to the die wheel periphery so that the guide hole traces a horizontal figure-eight curve to thereby wind the monofilament alternately around a pair of rows of circumferentially staggered pins, on the die wheel periphery.

  • Patent number: 4510658
Abstract: A clamping unit has a pair of clamping jaws movable toward each other by manually operable threaded rods to clamp a slotted hollow body such as a separable bottom stop member for a separable slide fastener on a beaded edge positioned between the clamping jaws. A central presser presses the slotted hollow body against shoulders of the clamping jaws to shape the slotted hollow body. The clamping jaws and the presser are adjustably limited in their coacting movement so as to handle slotted hollow bodies of various sizes. The clamping jaws and the presser are spring-loaded so that they will be automatically retracted out of an operating position upon release.

  • Patent number: 4479290
Abstract: In the apparatus for forming a space in and simultaneously fixing a stop to a fastener chain of this invention, a casing is provided with a tubular frame portion in which a punch holder having a space punch and a driver punch is received for sliding movement. This apparatus further includes a cutting punch between the driver punch and the inner wall of the tubular frame portion. When the punch holder descends, the cutting punch cuts a stop forming wire and forms the cut wire length into a stop preform in cooperation with an anvil. As the punch holder further descends, the driver punch drives the stop preform into the tapes of the chain and simultaneously the space punch forms a space in the chain. During this operation, the cutting punch rises relative to the punch holder so as not to damage the tapes.

  • Patent number: 4149569
Abstract: A weaving process and apparatus for producing a slide fastener from two continuous plastic filaments (synthetic-resin monofilament), each with a multiplicity of generally helicoidal coupling elements for interlocking with the coupling elements of the opposite filament, each filament being woven integral with the threads of its respective support tape to form a tape-like unit. Each coupling element has a coupling head on a loop and a pair of shanks terminating in bight portions which connect elements of the same tape-like unit. The shanks of each coupling element, which separate the bights from the loops, are held in close abutment by warp threads, with or without weft threads which pass over and under the successive paired abutting shanks of adjacent elements. Even stronger bracing can be obtained with bulbous projections on the shanks and bights, and by extending the coupling elements the entire width of the tape-like unit, replacing all or part of the weft threads.
