Patent number: 6050162Abstract: A retrofit system for a multi-spindle machine which includes a brake clutch (72), a feed clutch (70), and a high speed clutch (68) which are incorporated into the drive train gear layout of the multi-spindle machine. All three clutches are controlled by an electrical control circuit which includes a timer (80). When the multi-spindle machine shifts from high speed to low speed the control system activates the brake clutch for a short time period set in the timer, which causes the drive train gears to quickly slow down, allowing synchronous meshing with the low speed drive train of the multi-spindle machine and enabling a reduction in machine cycle time.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1997Date of Patent: April 18, 2000Assignee: Logan Clutch CorporationInventor: Robert Kalinsky

Patent number: 5361472Abstract: The NC complex automatic lathe is provided with a main spindle receptive therein a workpiece for chucking the same such as to protrude a front end portion of the workpiece, and a main spindle base for supporting the main spindle rotatably around a center axis and displaceably in a lengthwise direction of the workpiece. A turret type tool slide is disposed in the vicinity of the front end portion of the workpiece. The turret type tool slide is displaced transversely toward the center of the workpiece. A plurality of tool slide members are arranged radially around the front end portion of the workpiece in a free space away from the moving area of the turret type tool slide such as to undergo displacements toward the center of the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1991Date of Patent: November 8, 1994Assignee: Seiko Seiki Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Minoru Kubota

Patent number: 4304159Abstract: A machine tool for working elongated rod-like materials in rotation, particularly an automatic screw machine capable of working thin and long materials with a high degree of accuracy comparable to that of a headstock moving type automatic screw machine without involving any error in the indexing of the cutting tools for the work. The tool stand is reduced in weight, and movable along the longitudinal axis of the work, so that the machine is easy and inexpensive to manufacture.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1980Date of Patent: December 8, 1981Assignee: Takayuki NomuraInventor: Yoshifumi Tsuchiya

Patent number: 4130033Abstract: A multiple spindle automatic screw machine wherein in order to work small-diameter and relatively lengthy rods with high accuracy, the rods to be worked are supported by guide bushes incorporated integral with working tools into tool brackets in a working position with a tooling column held close to a spindle column, the tooling column being provided with a working tool drive mechanism for allowing the working tools to effect their working operation, the working tools each being provided with a working tool adjusting mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1977Date of Patent: December 19, 1978Inventor: Yoshifumi Tsuchiya

Patent number: 4124927Abstract: A sliding headstock automatic lathe includes a cutting tool which rotates in the same direction as the workpiece and at a speed precisely twice that of the workpiece, resulting in two or more flat cuts on the workpiece. The cutting tool is rotated by a connecting shaft driven by the same drive means which also rotates the workpiece. The connecting shaft is telescoping to accommodate the relative longitudinal movement of the lathe spindle nose and is pivotally attached between the drive means and the cutting tool to allow lateral movement of the cutting tool without slippage.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1976Date of Patent: November 14, 1978Inventor: Jess F. Sorenson

Patent number: 4087890Abstract: A compound lathe in which a headstock is horizontally movable along a spindle axis to provide longitudinal feeding of a workpiece mounted for rotation with the spindle and a saddle carrying a turret is vertically movable to provide transverse feeding. The saddle is slidably disposed on vertical guideways which is formed on a column mounted on a bed at the back of the headstock rearwardly of cutting areas of the workpiece and which vertically extends in a plane parallel to the axis of the spindle. The turret supports tools for turning, milling, drilling and other operations. Numerically controlled servo motors preferably position the headstock and saddle. A secondary workpiece gripping means is provided to grip the end of the workpiece opposite the headstock and is releasably connected to the headstock for movement therewith. The gripping means allows accurate secondary machining of the cut-off portion of a parted workpiece by the tools on the turret.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1975Date of Patent: May 9, 1978Assignee: Citizen Watch Company LimitedInventors: Shinichi Ishizuka, Kenji Sugimoto
