Abstract: A computerized discrete wire inventory indexing system organizes and automates the intake of wiring used in a wire harness assembly work cell. Functions in a work cell may be duplicated into a second arrangement symmetrically opposite to a first arrangement so that an indexing system in accordance with the invention may operate between or alongside the adjacent work cells to execute its tasks in tandem and produce pairs of wires to be used within the two work cells. The wire indexing system operates with a tandem wire pulling machine on a movable shuttle that grabs pairs of wires from the indexing system and draws them to length. Both the shuttle and the wire indexing system may includes fixtures for stripping and terminating wires by crimping terminals onto prepared wire ends. Abstract: An electrical wire has a central electrically conductive member such as copper, aluminum, gold or silver or admixtures or alloys thereof, coated by a photoresistive insulator, preferably of a negative photoresistive material such as polyimide. A non-mechanical method of stripping a desired portion of the length of the insulator from the electrical wire comprises exposing the desired length of the electrical wire to a source of UV light. The UV light then “softens” the insulator which either evaporates or can be dissolved by immersing it in a solvent.

Abstract: A wire-processing device has a belt-drive that feeds a wire to a swivel-arm with a gripper. Drives operate the swivel-arm in a swiveling motion and/or in a linear motion. The swivel-arm has a neutral position on a longitudinal axis of the wire and on the axis is a processing station with a cutting-head that cuts off the leading end and strips the insulation of a wire-end being held by the gripper and a guide-tube arranged on the gripper. An internal diameter of the guide-tube fits onto an external diameter of the wire. Other guide-tubes with different internal diameters are stored in a magazine with the swivel-arm being able to execute a change of guide-tubes automatically.

Abstract: A stripper tool is provided for cutting an outer sheath of an electrical cable. Inside the sheath is parallel spaced apart insulation covered wires and a core member containing an uncovered ground wire between the insulation covered wires. The sheath has spaced apart curved sides conforming to the covered wires. The tool has spaced apart first and second jaw members adapted to be pressed together. The jaw members have cutting edges that receive a portion of the cable along its length. The cutting edges define an opening configured to cut the sheath and the core without significantly cutting the insulation on the wires or the unsheathed ground wire when the jaw members are pressed together to form the opening. The portion of the sheath is then removed in one continuous process.
