The depth is recorded as a second measurement value. The valve seat is then pressed into the pocket, and the residual depth is measured to determine the distance between the outermost surface of the pressed in valve seat and the outer surface of the receiving pocket. A computation compares the depth of the pocket against the thickness of the valve seat to determine a difference which is then compared to the residual depth.

Abstract: A bushing installation and removal assembly includes mounting table fitted with a vice fixture, a press/ram assembly having a controlled hydraulic press whereby a separate hydraulic repositioning system disposes the work piece into the press/ram assembly in a controlled manner. The worktable, fixtures and press/ram assembly are designed to receive and securely position the housing assembly (work piece) onto a controlled substrate. The substrate is then designed to reposition the housing assembly (work piece) proximate to the press ram, which suitably presses the bushing member onto the housing assembly (work piece). The substrate is then retracted to its original position where the housing assembly (work piece) is removed for further processing.

Abstract: An apparatus for press fitting inserts into corresponding receptacles in workpieces includes a press comprising a ram and a backup tool spaced from the ram. An insertion tool is alignable between the ram and the backup tool. An insert magazine feeds inserts to the insertion tool. A workpiece positioner sequentially moves each workpiece through receiving positions that align the receptacles with the insertion tool between the ram and the backup tool. The ram repeatedly engages the insertion tool to press fit an insert into each of the corresponding receptacles. The backup tool supports the workpiece against the force of press-fit insertion.

  • Patent number: 6141863
Abstract: A force-controlled robot system with a visual sensor capable of performing a fitting operation automatically with high reliability. A force sensor attached to a wrist portion of a robot detects force in six axis directions for force control, and transmits the results of detection to a robot controller. Position and orientation of a convex portion of a fit-in workpiece held by claws of a robot hand and position and orientation of a concave position of a receiving workpiece positioned by a positioning device are detected by a three-dimensional visual sensor including a structured light unit SU and an image processor in the robot controller, and a robot position to start an inserting action is corrected. Then, the convex portion is inserted into the concave portion under the force control. After the inserting action completes, it is determined whether or not the insertion state of the fit-in workpiece in the receiving workpiece is normal.

  • Patent number: 6104896
Abstract: An assembling device insures that the proper interference fit is obtained between a flange device and a hollow cylindrical member into which the flange device is inserted. During the insertion of the flange, the hollow cylindrical member is held in place so that it does not move. A displacement sensor monitors the assembly stroke or the distance the flange is inserted and a force sensor is used to measure the assembly force. Threshold values of the displacement and assembly force are set for each flange device and hollow cylindrical member. The flange device displacement and assembly force are communicated to an assembly indicator. A force and/or displacement value above or below the predetermined threshold value will trigger a signal which alerts an operator to improper assembly of the flange device to the hollow cylindrical member.

Abstract: Piston-ringing apparatus comprises a tubular piston nest member for receiving each piston to locate the piston groove in a predetermined ring-receiving position, a plurality of ring cartridges positionable one at a time in alignment with the piston nest member. The aligned ring cartridge is engaged to the piston nest member to permit transfer of rings from the ring cartridge to the piston nest member and disengage the aligned ring cartridge when empty of rings. The stack of rings on the cartridge is moved by opposing fingers toward the piston groove to position an endmost ring residing on the nest member in the groove of each successive piston received in the nest member while the aligned ring cartridge is engaged thereto. A fiber optic switch is provided for directing a light beam tangentially through the piston groove to determine whether a ring is positioned therein. The switch provides a finger motor drive signal to stop feeding of a ring to the piston groove when a ring is present in the piston groove.

  • Patent number: 5154046
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the coupling of articulated track links with a determined tolerance by means of press fitting. In particular, said method is applied in the assembly of articulated link track chains for tracker vehicles where joint links (5) are pressed on to the two ends of a central pivot (2), on which at least one second element, or bushing (3) is rotably coupled, which bushing (3) is axially held by the two said joint links (5). According to the invention, all the elements, including spacers (4), are compressed into a "pack" configuration by the action of a maximum compression force, determined individually for each case with regard to the geometric characteristics of the various elements and the properties of the materials of which they are constituted, on the basis of the determination, effected during the course of the realisation of the press-fitting, of the total force necessary to overcome the opposition offered to relative axial sliding before reaching the "pack" configuration.
