Patent number: 6886231Abstract: An apparatus and method for mounting a valve stem to the rim of an automotive vehicle wheel includes rims being supplied in series by a conveyor to a gauging station where the type and/or size of the rim and the location and alignment of an aperture for receiving the valve stem is determined by a machine vision system. An electronic control system directs a robotic manipulator to grasp either the valve stem or the rim, move the valve stem or the rim to a mounting station, position the valve stem or the rim with respect to the other such that the aperture in the rim is in coaxial alignment with the valve stem, and insert the valve stem through the aperture in the rim. If necessary, a power-actuated nut runner, mounted on the robotic manipulator or adjacent the mounting station, is used to tighten a nut over the valve stem.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2002Date of Patent: May 3, 2005Assignee: Burke E. Patent number: 6880218Abstract: A tool for, and method of, removing a first component, such as a disc brake rotor, from an assembly, such as a disc brake assembly. The tool includes an elongated bar and a pressing device. The elongated bar has a pressing surface for pressing against the first component, and a backing surface opposite the pressing surface. The pressing device is connectable to the backing surface of the elongated bar. The pressing device is adjustable to engage a second component that is fixed to the assembly, in order to apply a force between the first component and the second component, to thereby remove the first component from the assembly.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2003Date of Patent: April 19, 2005Inventor: Mark J. Patent number: 6848158Abstract: The device comprises a base for positioning a tire and a lever pivoted on a support and able to move and be fixed in position along a plane which is radial with respect to the center of the base. An active end of the lever, located on an L-shaped bend at an end of the lever, can be introduced internally of the opening to interact contactingly with the internal surface of a part of the support ring pre-inserted in the opening. By acting on the lever, the active end presses the ring against the inside of the tire with radial force. The support ring is of a type which when applied on a vehicle wheel enables the vehicle to continue moving for a considerable time even where tire pressure is suddenly lost.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2002Date of Patent: February 1, 2005Assignee: Snap-On Equipment S.r.l.Inventor: Rino Spaggiari

Publication number: 20040187302Abstract: A tire-rimming device for a toy car is disclosed. The device comprises a base seat within a housing and a pressing frame, characterized in that the base seat is provided with a support frame, a rotating plate, a fastening seat and a switch, the center of the rotating plate is provided with a positioning shaft which is connected to a speed-reduction motor within the housing. The axle of the speed-reduction motor is engaged with that of the rotating plate, thereby when the tire is placed on the rotating plate, the pressing frame will press down and lock the tire in position. The protruded lug on the bottom edge of the pressing frame can separate the rim from the tire, so that when the power is on, the speed-reduction motor will be actuated to drive the rotating plate, and therefore ease applying the adhesive to the tire.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2003Publication date: September 30, 2004Inventor: Daimler Chu

Publication number: 20040177496Abstract: A tire assembly line including a wheel soaping work station, a tire soaping workstation, a tire and wheel assembly station, and a tire inflation station. The assembly line is formed from a plurality of modules that are interchangeable and releasably connected to one another. The modules support an endless conveyor member for circling movement. The endless conveyor member moves wheels and assemble tires and wheels along the assembly line between the work stations.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 5, 2004Publication date: September 16, 2004Inventors: Dan Pellerin, Boris R. Publication number: 20040093713Abstract: A method of and apparatus for assembling an aircraft wheel or brake (10) component on an axle (26) of an undercarriage in which a holder (12) is provided for the component along with a lifting device (28). The lifting device is used to lift the holder with the component therein to a position where the component is substantially in axial alignment with the axle. Once in that position, assembly of the component on the axle can take place by moving the component axially on to the axle. The holder can then be lowered away from the assembled component.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 24, 2003Publication date: May 20, 2004Inventors: Robert Laird, Richard Dawes

Patent number: 6687967Abstract: This invention relates to an improved vehicle wheel idle station tooling apparatus. The vehicle wheel idle station tooling apparatus includes a center pilot and at least one rim block. The center pilot is adapted to be secured to a component of the vehicle wheel idle station tooling apparatus and defines an outer diameter which is slightly less than an inner diameter defined by a pilot hole of a vehicle wheel so as to pilot the vehicle wheel on the center pilot. The rim block is adapted to be secured to a component of the vehicle wheel idle station tooling apparatus and includes a surface which is operative to engage an outer surface of a flange of the vehicle wheel so as to support the vehicle wheel thereon.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2001Date of Patent: February 10, 2004Assignee: Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc.Inventor: Jeffrey W.
