Scaling With Other Step Patents (Class 29/DIG34)
  • Patent number: 4884927
Abstract: A shield unit which is removably attachable to a machine tool having a cutting member. A rigid transparent sheet is attached to an elongate stem. Also attached to the elongate stem is a clamp. The clamp is adapted to be removably attached to a portion of the machine tool. With the clamp attached to a portion of the machine tool, the transparent sheet is positioned adjacent a cutting member of the machine tool to protect the operator of the machine tool. Preferably, the machine tool is provided with a threaded rod such as a spindle adjustment rod, and the clamp has a threaded portion which threadedly engages the threaded rod to secure the position of the clamp with respect to the threaded rod and to secure the position of the transparent sheet with respect to the cutting member.

  • Patent number: 4510664
Abstract: In order to produce a packing ring having a stiffening ring by a method which dispenses with the use of a complicated and expensive mold, an extrusion having the desired cross-section of the packing ring and having a cavity, extending in the extrusion direction, for the reception of the stiffening ring is firstly produced. The extruded material cut to length in accordance with the desired circumference of the packing ring is slipped onto a wire which is similarly cut to length and bent into a circle. The ends of the extruded material are pushed back while the ends of the wire are welded together, so that a closed stiffening ring is produced. Then the material ends are joined together and are bonded or vulcanized to one another.

  • Patent number: 4233725
Abstract: A method for pressurizing an aerosol dispensing system with propellant in which a flexible inner container is inserted within a rigid outer container. The mouth opening of the inner container, having flexible means thereon, extends outwardly through the neck opening of the outer container with the flexible means supported by the neck opening. A dispensing cap is moved into engagement with the flexible means and the dispensing cap and flexible means are moved away from the neck opening while propellant is then injected through the neck opening into the region between the inner and outer containers. The dispensing cap is moved into the neck opening and crimped into engagement therewith to fix the position of the flexible means and inner container while maintaining a space between the neck opening and a portion of the exterior surface of the dispensing cap during crimping.

  • Patent number: 4189819
Abstract: For manufacturing a metallic spirally wound gasket having an outer centring ring it is proposed spirally to coil a corrugated strip of metallic material to form a sealing element of desired diameter and to surround the thus formed sealing element with a centring ring which is or has been formed by spirally coiling a metal strip which is of greater thickness than the sealing element strip and has a corrugated cross-section such that adjacent turns of the spiral fit without clearance one against the other.

  • Patent number: 4156307
Abstract: An improved process for fabricating a sealing flange assembly useful for oval and other noncircular access ports in high vacuum equipment is disclosed. The process is applicable to sealing flange assemblies of the type which include relatively hard metallic flange members having opposed, mating surfaces at least a portion of which are chamfered to define a V-shaped notch therebetween and a relatively soft metallic sealing member disposed in the notch under compression against the chamfered surfaces. The process relates specifically to the machining of the chamfered sealing surfaces by a milling process which utilizes a specially ground end mill and selected depths of cut to provide a more or less grooved sealing surface profile essentially devoid of tool chatter marks and metal folds which represent nonsealable surface defects. The as-milled chamfered sealing surfaces are much coarser (32.mu. inch finish) than those produced by grinding (8.mu.

  • Patent number: 3939551
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an oil seal element from polytetrafluoroethylene and the like. A tubular billet of polytetrafluoroethylene or the like is provided with an outer cylindrical surface of the desired diameter and an inner cylindrical surface approximating but slightly smaller than the desired diameter, and an end wall is faced off perpendicular to the cylindrical surfaces. A series of washers of a desired thickness is then sliced from the billet. The flat washer is then first assembled with a metal case and then a desired hydrodynamic shape, such as a spiral groove, is coined in. Preferably, the inner pierce is completed at this time. Each washer may then be formed under pressure to permanently deform the radially inner portion thereof to a frustoconical shape. The assembled seal may be held on a shaft-size mandrel during application of a coating to the metal case.
