  • Patent number: 9180770
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a hybrid electric, turbine-powered, all wheel drive automotive platform or truck/military platform design that utilizes a hybrid electromagnetic segmented gas turboshaft engine, whereby all rotating turbomachinery components are segmented from one another electromagnetically. In some embodiments, the components may be levitated in magnetic bearings. In this way, the turbine stages have superconducting ring generators circumferentially surrounding the turbine core generating multi-megawatts of electric power for the land automotive platform. The hybrid turbine acts as an integrated superconducting generator. A plurality of electromagnetic transmission(s) connect to all-wheel drive wheel armatures that are adjacent to the superconducting stators in each wheel, which drive the wheels. Each wheel may be an electric powered-magnetic powered hybrid drive-energy storage unit architecture itself.

  • Patent number: 8134331
Abstract: A method of generating and controlling power for an alternating current (AC) motor by means of at least one controlled permanent magnet machine (PMM) with a permanent magnet (PM) rotor and a stator with a magnetic flux diverter circuit for controlling the output of the PMM, comprises the steps of: rotating the PM rotor at a velocity sufficient to develop a high frequency alternating current (HFAC) power output from the stator; transforming the HFAC output to produce a variable low frequency alternating current (AC) motor control output for the motor; sensing desired motor control parameters; generating a control signal responsive to the sensed parameters; and applying the control signal to the magnetic flux diverter circuit to control the motor control output.

  • Patent number: 7859124
Abstract: An internal combustion engine has a combustion chamber having a spark plug arranged thereat. A crankcase supports a crankshaft. An intake for introducing fuel and combustion air into the combustion chamber is provided. An exhaust for exhausting combustion gases from the combustion chamber is provided. A piston is connected to the crankshaft and drives the crankshaft in rotation. A wheel member is connected to the crankshaft and rotates with the crankshaft. An alternator driven by the crankshaft supplies electric power to a consumer. The alternator is arranged within a radial boundary of the wheel member and external to the crankcase. The alternator has a stator and a rotor, wherein the crankshaft penetrates the stator and wherein the rotor is fixedly connected to the wheel member.

  • Publication number: 20040160060
Abstract: The invention comprises a float system having a float connected to a pump line and a reservoir tank. As the float rises and falls with the passing swells, it forces water through the pump line into a reservoir tank. An outflow line connects the reservoir line to a generator system, preferably located on shore, where the flowing water is used to drive a turbine and generate electricity. Preferably, there are a plurality of reservoir tanks, each with its own float and pump line, delivering water to the generator system. The flow of water through the pump line is kept steady by providing each reservoir tank with a pressurized air cushion which provides for constant outflow of water from each tank despite variances in the inflow.

  • Patent number: 6081042
Abstract: A hybrid drive system for a motor vehicle, wherein a controllable device such as an automatic transmission or a center differential device is disposed between drive wheels of the vehicle and a drive power source consisting of an engine operated by combustion of a fuel, and an electric motor operated with an electric energy, and the engine and/or the electric motor is/are operated for driving the motor vehicle in different running modes. The controllable device is controlled by a control device on the basis of an input torque received by the controllable device. The control device is adapted to estimate the input torque of depending upon a currently selected one of the running modes, or effect learning control of the controllable device in different manners corresponding to the different running modes.

  • Patent number: 5977648
Abstract: An electric power generating system comprises a low reactance, large airgap permanent magnet generator driven by a hydraulic motor to generate a poly-phase AC output voltage. Because the permanent magnet generator is a low reluctance, large airgap machine, the output voltage regulation is low over the desired loading range of the system. The output voltage is controlled within acceptable limits by trimming the output speed of the hydraulic motor through the use of a servovalve. The control for the servovalve senses a parameter of output power and generates a speed control signal to compensate for deviations in the generator output. The system includes protection circuitry which monitors at least one parameter of the output power. This protection circuitry generates an output protection signal in response to a deviation in the monitored parameter which exceeds predetermined limits.
