  • Patent number: 6147414
Abstract: A microturbine power generation system includes an electric generator, a rectifier for rectifying an output of the electric generator, and an inverter for up-chopping an output of the rectifier. The inverter can also be controlled to provide an excitation current to windings of the electric generator. The excitation current causes the electric generator to operate as a motor. The electric generator can be operated as a starter motor for the system.

  • Patent number: 5847470
Abstract: An auxiliary motor drive system including a driving device and an auxiliary motor. The driving device is powered by the engine of a motor vehicle and in turn drives the auxiliary motor. The auxiliary motor in turn drives the drive shaft of the motor vehicle, thus allowing the engine power output to be applied to the vehicle drive shaft while bypassing the vehicle's transmission. The driving device can be a hydraulic pump, a compressor, or an electric generator, while the auxiliary motor is a hydraulic motor, a pneumatic motor, or an electric motor respectively.

  • Patent number: 5821630
Abstract: A system and controller for providing emergency power to an electrical load when a usual source of power for the load has failed, includes an electrical dynamo, an engine of controllable speed connectable by clutch to drive by a fixed speed ratio the dynamo, a continuously spinning flywheel to provide power while the engine is coming up to speed and during transient loads thereafter, and a control system. The flywheel is also connected with the dynamo, through a variable-speed transmission. When the engine is driving the dynamo, the speed of the engine is controlled by a loop, which involves sensing the torque of the flywheel, comparing the flywheel's speed with a first reference, and adjusting the throttle according to the difference.

  • Patent number: 5581128
Abstract: An electric power generating system employing a gas turbine (1) and a steam turbine (5) and a gasifier (9) supplying fuel-gas to the gas turbine (1) and to a steam generating fluidized bed combustor (37), the latter providing steam for the steam turbine (5). An auxiliary steam turbine (21), driving an electric generator (22), is also supplied by the circulating fluidized bed combustor steam generator (37). Since the gasifier (9) cannot be reversibly turned down easily, on a fall in load on the main steam turbine (5), the excess steam generated is diverted to the auxiliary steam generator (21) and the gasifier (9) kept running efficiently.

  • Patent number: 5373198
Abstract: The system ensures electric feed for which purpose it has an alternating current motor (1) coupled to an alternator (2) which is coupled to a hydraulic motor (8) which in turn is coupled to a diesel engine (7.)The alternating current motor is coupled by means of a clutch (6) to a high pressure pump (5.)All the elements are governed by a control circuit (4) so that in the absence of network, it simultaneously drives the diesel engine (7) and the hydraulic motor (8) the latter initially maintaining the angular speed of the alternator, until the diesel engine (7) attains its normal working conditions; as of when it is mechanically coupled to the alternator (2), the hydraulic motor (8) remaining turned off.The high pressure pump is capable of being directly coupled to the diesel engine (7) with which the hydraulic motor (8) is the one which maintains the angular speed of the alternator (2) at all times.

  • Patent number: 4910414
Abstract: A system for air conditioning and generating electrical power including a fuel-fired internal combustion engine, an electrical motor/generator, and a vapor compressor/expander all interconnected. The vapor compressor/expander driven by the engine operates in one mode with an evaporator and a condenser in a generally conventional refrigeration cycle. In an alternative mode, the vapor compressor/expander is operated in reverse by refrigerant boiled in the evaporator by the rejected heat of the engine and condensed in the condenser and contributes mechanical power to that of the engine to drive the motor/generator. The motor/generator can be supplied external electrical energy to operate as a motor to drive the compressor/expander during periods of non-operation of the engine.

  • Patent number: 4503337
Abstract: A power supply system for generating at least one of heat and electricity which includes a number of statically and functionally independent units adapted to generate at least one of heat and electricity which enable a maximum utilization of primary energy. For decentralized power supply over short and low loss supply lines the individual units are constructed as stackable modules. By exchanging or adding one or more modules, it is possible to adapt the flexibility of the power supply system to changes in demand for the energy thereby providing a practical approach to the utilization of waste heat for energy conservation purposes.

  • Patent number: 4368391
Abstract: A hydraulic process and apparatus recover energy generated by the testing of a motor in the form of electrical energy. The process includes utilizing a hydraulic pump and an asynchronous electric generator and coupling the shaft of the motor being tested to the hydraulic pump, feeding a plurality of hydraulic motors by the pump in accordance with the feed from the hydraulic pump and coupling the hydraulic motors to the asynchronous generator so that the motors will be capable of operating both as pumps and motors. The device for recovering energy includes a hydraulic volumetric pump, an asynchronous electric generator, and a pressurized oil reservoir connected to the hydraulic pump. The motor being tested is attached to the pump. A plurality of hydraulic motors are connected in parallel with the hydraulic pump and in series with the asynchronous electric generator so that the motors can act both as pumps by feeding themselves and as motors to furnish energy to the asynchronous generator.

  • Patent number: 4137004
Abstract: A method for controlling operations of hydraulic machines, in which two or more hydraulic machines are positioned in water conduits separated or branched upstream thereof with the branch water conduits downstream therefrom being joined together or maintained separate. Thus, these hydraulic machines are communicated with each other through the branch water conduits. In this method, the lower limit of a closing operational speed of guide vanes in one hydraulic machine is preferentially or overridingly controlled in the transient phase of operation, by detecting the closing operational speed of guide vanes of the other hydraulic machines. As a result, an abnormal condition in hydraulic pressure in upstream or downstream water conduits may be prevented, which condition would be caused in the event that the operational conditions of respective hydraulic machines are abruptly changed one after another.
