Abstract: A device and method for dispensing a friction-coefficient-optimizing mixture of at least one lubricant and at least one grit into the gap between a rail wheel of a rail vehicle and a rail. The device includes a reservoir for the lubricant, a reservoir for the grit, a metering unit for metering the lubricant, a metering unit for metering the grit, a delivery apparatus for delivering the lubricant, a delivery apparatus for delivering the grit, and a common dispensing nozzle. The apparatus for delivering the lubricant and the apparatus for delivering the grit are separate from each other and end in the common dispensing nozzle, the friction-coefficient-optimizing mixture therefore not being formed until the dispensing, and an additional compressed air line is provided, which ends in the common dispensing nozzle.

Abstract: A standby sanding unit for emergency sanding of icy roadways has a plurality of sand hoppers that are connected to a tank holding air under pressure. The hoppers have hopper type bottoms that have nozzles attached to the bottoms so that when air under pressure is provided to the upper portions of the tank, sand will be discharged out through the nozzles. The air pressure tank has valves that control the flow of air under pressure to the hoppers, when needed.
Abstract: A device for increasing the factor of adhesion between the wheel of a railway vehicle and a rail, in which adhesion increasing grains are ejected together with air to a point between the wheel and the rail. The vertical aim of the ejection nozzle is automatically controlled depending on the deflection of an elastic member between the undercarriage and the wheel.
Abstract: A sand dispensing device includes a sand storage unit having a pair of holes in each end; wherein the sand storage unit is contained within the trunk of the motor vehicle. A pair of chute and dispensing unit assemblies extend downwardly through the floor board of the automobile, wherein the top of each chute communicates with the ends of the sand storage unit and the dispensing unit is positioned in front of each rear wheel. A cable mechanism is provided for opening and closing a movable rear end wall of each dispensing unit.
