  • Patent number: 4974884
Abstract: A selectively self-locking deadbolt latch for incorporation into doors or the like. The latch can be preliminarily "armed" such that as the door closes the bolt will extend into the opening of the door strike. The latch mechanism includes a cam lever having a shoulder which loads against the bolt extension. A compression spring within the bolt urges the bolt towards the locked position once the cam lever is released from the bolt extension by closing the door. The temporary retraction of the bolt as it engages the door strike releases the bolt and cam lever. A beam spring acting on the cam lever urges the cam lever forward towards the locked position. The bolt is initially armed by turning the inner turn lever slightly or by depressing the end of the bolt which includes chamfered edges to allow the bolt to move past the door strike for release.

  • Patent number: 4962953
Abstract: An animal gate latch mechanism having upper and lower latch units movable successively and alternatively between gate open and gate latching positions therefor by a linkage system including a single actuating arm. From a gate open position of both latch units, movement of the actuating arm in one direction will independently move the latch units to the gate latching positions therefor. An intermediate latched condition of the gate is thus provided which can quickly and easily be effected by an operator on horseback. With both latch units in the latched position therefor, the gate is securely latched at two spaced-apart locations to prevent twisting of the gate by a confined animal and its possible escape therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4958866
Abstract: A doorleaf lock, comprising a lock mechanism for controlling a locking bolt (12) and a catch bolt (15), which is controlled by means of a door handle. The catch bolt, in a neutral position defined by a spring means (21), extends with a non-circular bolt head (17) through a non-circular opening (16) in the lock front wall (11). The catch bolt is displaceable into the lock, against the action of the spring means (21), during manipulation of the handle. The catch bolt (15) abuts a catch means (22) in said neutral position, said catch means being accessible via a second opening (28) in the front wall (11). The catch means is displaceable from its catch position by manipulation from the outside via the second opening (28). Further, after said manipulation of the catch means (22), the catch bolt is displaceable with its bolt head (17) out of the non-circular opening (16) to the outside of the lock, enabling a turning of the catch bolt around its longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 4946207
Abstract: A lock assembly (10) for mounting on a door includes a dead-locking element (31), movement of which is controlled by an electrically operated device (35) for mounting on the door frame and magnetically coupled to a linkage system (32,33) whereby the dead-locking element (31) is moved. The linkage system carries a permanent magnet (34) which interacts with the core (37) of the solenoid when the door is in its closed position, and when the solenoid is energised it repels the permanent magnet (34) thereby operating the linkage system to move the dead-locking element (31) away from its operative position, thereby allowing a locking member (12) to be withdrawn.

  • Patent number: 4865367
Abstract: A door lock structure includes a frame and a latch bolt carried by the frame for movement between retracted and advanced positions relative to a jamb. The bolt in its retracted position allows the door to open and when its in its advanced position blocks the closed door from opening. A first heat-fusible spring carried by the frame urges the bolt toward the advanced position. A lever pivotally carried by the bolt pivots between a first bolt blocking position and a second bolt freeing position. The lever has a second heat fusible spring carried by the bolt and acting on the lever for urging the lever toward the first bolt blocking position. The frame carries an actuator for pivoting the lever into the second position allowing movement of the bolt toward the retracted position. The lever also has a counterweight on the lever for keeping the lever in the first position to block retraction of the bolt in the event that the first and second springs melt.

  • Patent number: 4824151
Abstract: A door lock comprising a block having a slot into which a locking arm moves when the door is shut. A pivot arm is resiliently biassed to extend into the slot and, a separate locking element is resiliently biassed to slidably extend into the slot. While a rotatable element is resiliently biassed to rotate clockwise to bring a roller directly under the locking element, the pivot arm abuts the roller and is itself resiliently biassed to prevent the roller from reaching a position fully under the locking element. Entry of the locking arm into the slot depresses the pivot arm forcing the locking element downward to permit full entry of the locking arm into the slot. As the locking element descends, the roller is urged counter-clockwise and the locking element engages a channel in the locking arm. The depressed pivot arm will not abut the roller at this point thereby allowing it to reach a position fully under the locking element which locks the locking element in the locking arm channel.

  • Patent number: 4724690
Abstract: A security bolt including a housing and a bolt rod slidably mounted on that housing for relative movement between operative and inoperative positions. The rod is cylindrical and has a section of reduced diameter between its ends so as to form two opposed shoulders. Key operated locking mechanism, having a rotatable barrel, is attached to the housing and a detent member is rotatably mounted on an end portion of that barrel. The detent member is rotatable to a position at which it engages one of the rod shoulders and thereby prevents movement of the rod out of the operative position. Rotation of the detent member is caused by rotation of the barrel, but a lost motion connection enables the barrel to rotate to a limited extent in either direction without causing corresponding rotation of the detent member. The locking mechanism can be removed from the housing through a rear side and releasable securing means controls that removal.

  • Patent number: 4676081
Abstract: The panel lock comprises an elongated housing having resilient wedging means at each end to secure the panel lock in place in a recess in a door, panel or like member. Formed integrally with the elongated housing are a lock housing with a cylindrical opening, a central recessed portion, and a bolt housing. A lock is rotatably secured in the opening in the lock housing. A bolt is slidably positioned in the bolt housing. A spring is operative between the bolt and the bolt housing to bias the bolt outwardly from the bolt housing into locking position. An actuator is slidably secured to the elongated housing and is adapted to engage the bolt. When the actuator is moved in one direction, the bolt is biased outwardly to a latching position by the spring. Movement of the actuator in an opposite direction will move the bolt against the bias of the spring to a release position. Cam means are secured to the lock and are rotatable therewith to lock or to release the actuator.
