Patent number: 10895108Abstract: The present gate includes a barrier frame and a gate in the barrier frame. The gate is opened by inserting a foot into a foot opening in the gate, which action compresses springs disposed about pivot pins between the gate and the barrier frame and draws an extended latch downwardly and out of a latch receiver that is bottomless, which action unlatches and frees the gate from the barrier frame such that the gate can be swung open. Downward travel of the gate is minimized until a foot pushes a pivoting stop out of the way.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2017Date of Patent: January 19, 2021Assignee: Carlson Pet Products, Inc.Inventors: Mark A. Publication number: 20100052335Abstract: An integrated inertia locking mechanism may be incorporated with a door handle assembly and is particularly beneficial in acceleration events, such as a multiple axis crash, by counteracting the forces of inertia caused by such crash. In an exemplary aspect, the integrated inertia locking mechanism will prevent the door latch mechanism, which releases the door, from releasing and the door opening during a multiple axis crash. After the crash, or when the crash force is removed, the integrated inertia locking mechanism will allow the latch mechanism to function normally, thereby permitting the door to be opened and the occupants to exit from the vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 10, 2009Publication date: March 4, 2010Inventors: JOSEPH L. Publication number: 20040189015Abstract: A latching arrangement for a refrigerator door includes a striker unit, a first latch arm and a second latch arm. The striker unit is secured to a cabinet of the refrigerator. The first latch arm is interconnected to the door for pivotal movement about a generally horizontal axis between a latched position and an unlatched position. In the latched position, the first arm releasably engages a first striker portion of the striker unit. The second latch arm is interconnected to the door for pivotal movement about a generally vertical axis between a latched position and an unlatched position. In the latched position, the second latch arm releasably engages a second striker portion of the striker unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 22, 2004Publication date: September 30, 2004Inventors: John M Antos, James c Butler

Patent number: 6709034Abstract: There is provided an improved sliding door handle assembly having a spring operated integral push button locking mechanism. Specifically, the improved sliding door handle assembly is comprised of a handle assembly including an upper handle section and a lower handle section, and a push button assembly. The upper handle section is recessed so as to incorporate the push button assembly and includes an opening for insertion of a cylindrical locking pin. The locking pin is spring-biased so as to move between a first position for locking the handle and a second position for unlocking the handle. The lower handle section is curved to facilitate gripping the door handle. The push button assembly includes a housing member and a push button member. The push button assembly has an opening to receive a push button member that is movable so as to engage and disengage the locking pin for locking and unlocking the handle.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2002Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Inventor: Alex Michael

Patent number: 6669246Abstract: A lock for a door comprising a casing, a bolt operable to extend from or retract into the casing and manually operable bolt retention means to retain the bolt in its retracted state even when an automatically operating bolt holding member is released by inwards movement of a bolt release member. The bolt retention means comprises a snib having a part receivable in an opening in the bolt when the bolt is manually moved into the case from its normally retracted position. Once the snib part is in the opening and the inwards force on the bolt removed, the spring acting on the bolt moves the bolt to its normally retracted position, where it is then retained by the snib. To release the retention, the bolt is again moved further into the case, whereupon the snib part is moved clear of the bolt opening under spring bias, and the unretained bolt is moved by its bias to its normally retracted position.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2001Date of Patent: December 30, 2003Assignee: Banham Patent Lock LimitedInventor: Brian Edward Cowper

Patent number: 6003909Abstract: A security override system for a locked box comprising a first hasp portion mounted within a box and extending through a first opening in an outer door of the box; a second hasp portion connected to a bracket; the bracket slideably mounted within the box such that the second hasp portion extends through a second opening in the outer door, said sliding of the bracket being governed by a disguised false hinge latch which is connected to the outer door and extends through the bracket and a third opening in the outer door and is movable between a holding position and a released position; the bracket being movable between a closed position wherein the second hasp portion mates with the first hasp portion to form a padlock receiving portion for locking the outer door with a padlock and an open position wherein the second hasp portion does not mate with the first hasp portion; and wherein the outer door can be unlocked by moving the disguised latch to the released position so as to permit movement of the bracket intType: GrantFiled: June 29, 1998Date of Patent: December 21, 1999Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventor: Bassel Hage Daoud

Patent number: 5597188Abstract: A latching device which detects the initial shocks of major earthquakes and activates safety devices before the onset of destructive ground motions. A unidirectional vertical threshold seismoscope is integrated with mechanical and electromechanical safety devices to latch cabinets closed, secure movable objects, shut off gas, water, and electric utilities, activate alarms, early warning networks, and related automated response systems. The device is fully self contained, requires no external power, and is virtually impervious to nonearthquake noise in that it is designed to respond specifically to the vertical acceleration and displacement characteristic of the initial shock waves of a major earthquake.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1995Date of Patent: January 28, 1997Inventor: John A.
