The handle is adapted to facilitate axial movement of the shaft as the handle is pivotally rotated between open and closed positions. A bushing is provided on the shaft which is adapted for axial movement corresponding with movement of the shaft. A retaining member is also included in connection with the shaft which is adapted for securing the bushing in its mounted position on the shaft.

    Abstract: A ratchet type vehicle closure latch is secured to a vehicle door by a pair of bolts. One is located in proximity to engaged teeth of a rotatable ratchet and pawl and the other is located in proximity to engaged portions of the ratchet and a striker. The closure latch has a plastic housing that includes a thin integral plastic sleeve that breaks away in service to provide a sleeve bearing that eliminates metal-on-metal contact between the rotatable ratchet and a ratchet stud. The ratchet stud and a pawl stud hold several parts of the door latch together. The door latch has several non-metallic parts and an insert molded ratchet for minimizing the metal-on-metal engagement, operational noise and lubrication requirements. Some parts are non-handed and other parts are identical to reduce manufacturing costs.

    Abstract: A pawl latch that provides an integral gripping feature to facilitate opening panels and a visual indication of latch closure. The front portion of the latch has two pieces. In the open position, the two pieces are positioned with respect to each other so that the top piece reveals a colored face of the bottom piece. The colored face of the bottom piece can be observed at great distances from the latch. In the closed position, the top piece totally covers the bottom piece so that no color is visible on the latch. Further, in the open position, the front piece is at right angles to the bottom piece, and the front piece is positioned away from the panel so that it can be easily grasped with two fingers to allow the opening of an attached panel. Also, the latch is designed to be attached to a surface of the panel that is not horizontal to a frame to which the panel is to be secured to by the latch.

In order to lock the shell door or flap, the substantially rigid member is abutted against and secured to moving parts of the latch mechanism from the interior of the shell. In this manner, a person inside of the shell and pick-up bed may secure the flap or door in a closed position and prohibit the flap or door from being opened by prohibiting movement of the moving parts of the latch mechanism.

The device consists of 2 sets of three plate-shaped bodies engaging one another, the outer one having a hole for the bearing of a door handle and being larger than the door hole, a central body having essentially the same diameter as the door hole, and an inner body smaller than the door hole, all having a central hole for passage of the mandrel. The inner body and the outer body are clamped together by screws which pass through recesses in the central body. Consequently, the inner and outer bodies can be shifted in relation to the central body to compensate for any lack of alignment between the mandrel and the door hole prior to tightening of the screws. Then the screws are tightened so that the outer body and the inner body are clamped together around the central body and then the 2 sets are clamped to each other.

The fingers have inwardly turned tip portions that frictionally grip outer surface portions of the stem. The frictional grip of the fingers on the stem acts as a detent to assist in holding the button in its lowermost or "locked" position.

    Abstract: Herein disclosed is a door latch operating device which comprises a stationary member fixed to the door, a first movable member movable from a first position to cause the door to be locked to a second position to cause the door to be unlocked, a second movable member hingedly connected to the stationary member, and a third movable member having one end hingedly connected to the leading end of the second movable member and the other end pivotally connected to the first movable member. With this arrangement, the movement of the second movable member induces the movement of the first movable member, and vice versa.

    Abstract: A replacement hasp for a railroad sliding door lock mechanism, a kit for making the hasp, and method for making the replacement using the kit are disclosed in two embodiments. The kit includes a member which partially defines an eye, sized to fit loosely about the existing hasp-retaining link on the car, and an eye-completion member arrayed to mate with the first member and form a replacement hasp when affixed thereto, as by welding with shear welds. In the first embodiment, the first member is generally U-shaped and the second member includes a tongue portion which mates between the ends of the partial-eye-defining member such that the two can be "telescoped" together to form a replacement hasp of different lengths to accommodate changes in the door or door jamb of the railroad car. The two main members include furrows extending along the parting lines between them so as to aid in welding the main members together and to form a stronger affixture than is possible under the prior commercial practice.
