  • Patent number: 8562040
Abstract: An electric lock for remote access control to a container wherein a U-shaped latch is mounted on a door in alignment with a slot in a housing mounted in the container. Upon closure, the latch enters the housing to engage a slotted keeper therein and causes rotation of the keeper. Rotation of the keeper causes a release lever to engage a stepped protrusion on the keeper and secures the keeper and latch. Activation of a solenoid or drive motor coupled to the release lever permits withdrawal of the latch from the housing. The axes of rotation of the keeper and release lever are located to greatly reduce the impact of pre-release forces to the door.

  • Patent number: 8366159
Abstract: An inertia blocking mechanism operably connected to a door handle on a vehicle having a handle chassis. A counterweight is operably connected to the handle chassis and is pivotally rotatable about a first pivot axis between a non-actuated position and an actuated position. Stanchions extends from the handle chassis. A spring-biased primary inertia lever is operably connected with the stanchions and is pivotally rotatable about a second pivot axis. The spring-biased primary inertia lever is biased to a first position out of rotational alignment with the counterweight. An auxiliary inertia lever is pivotally rotatable about the second pivot axis and is adapted to move the primary inertia lever into a second position in rotational alignment with the counterweight, which prevents the counterweight from rotating downward into the actuated position, thereby actuating the exterior door handle thereby preventing the exterior handle from actuating and releasing the latch.

  • Patent number: 8360487
Abstract: A latch assembly includes a housing having a cavity between first and second end walls. A swing arm member having a joining end is positioned within the cavity having first and second swing arms connected to the joining end having portions extending freely through the first and second swing arm apertures. A keeper/catch member is rotatably connected to the first and second journal members. Keeper/catch member rotation from an orientation rotated away from a longitudinal axis defined by a portion of the first and second swing arms extending through the swing arm apertures to an orientation approximately parallel with the longitudinal axis creates an over-center locking condition for the housing and a pushing force acting through the keeper/catch member to push a first component into contact with a second component.

  • Patent number: 6079756
Abstract: A latch mechanism for use with an oven having a door, the latch mechanism including a base plate which pivotably supports a latch member about a pivot point. The latch member is rotatable between a latched and unlatched position and includes a drive surface offset from the pivot point. An actuator pin is supported by the base plate for rectilinear movement wherein the actuator pin has an outer end extending beyond the base plate for engaging the oven door upon closure and an inner end drivingly engaging the drive surface for rotating the latch member into a latched position against a spring bias. The base plate is a molded plastic member having a boss including snap connection means for rotatably supporting the latch member and a sleeve for slidingly supporting the actuator pin for rectilinear movement. A solenoid is mounted to the base plate and has a locking pin selectably movable between an extended position and a retracted position.

  • Patent number: 6053544
Abstract: A locking handle for a refrigerator includes a mounting element rigidly secured to a refrigerator door, a hand grip rigidly secured to the mounting element, and a latch attached to the mounting element. The latch has a catch movable between a locked position and an unlocked position and an actuator operably connected to the catch for moving the catch from the locked position to the unlocked position. The latch provides a positive lock which is actuated to an unlocked position with a manipulation separate from pulling the hand grip but has an actuator located near the hand grip so that it can be manipulated by a hand grasping and pulling the hand grip. In a first embodiment, the catch is integrally molded with the mounting portion and is laterally deflectable away from a retainer mounted beside the door. In a second embodiment the catch is a vertically extending spindle which is downwardly movable away from a retainer mounted above the door.

  • Patent number: 5713691
Abstract: A latch for a hitch having release mechanism including a pair of parallel oriented cylinders which are disposed to lock together two separable elements of a hitch. The locking cylinders are disposed between the confronting surfaces within portions of the separable hitch elements to receive a compression force across the both of the cylinders when the hitch elements are receiving an tensions so as to separate them. To release the hitch elements while under tension, one of the cylinders is rotated, causing the adjacent, parallel disposed cylinder to rotate in the opposite direction, rolling over the confronting surfaces in the same directions, and eventually out of and releasing the two separable hitch elements. Multiple embodiments are shown which relate to variations in hitch styles, and further embodiments relate to smaller clamping devices, such as hand tools, and to rotational couplers which are releasable while under torque.

Abstract: A latch for releasably securing the trunk lid of a vehicle which may be actuated by a person inside the trunk in emergency situations. The device includes a latch assembly operable by both a conventional exterior lock assembly and a release assembly positioned within the trunk compartment. The release assembly utilizes a flexible cable coupled to a detent lever within the latch in which the cable may be pulled by a person inside the trunk to open the trunk lid. Alternatively or additionally, the release assembly may utilize a spring loaded button which engages the detent lever to release the lid upon actuation. An alternate embodiment of the present invention includes a luminescent coating on the release assembly.

  • Patent number: 4662195
Abstract: A wall mounted soap dispenser made of plastic is described. The dispenser includes a hand-operated pump which dispenses liquid soap under pressure and which can be manufactured inexpensively. A disposable container of liquid soap is inserted in the dispenser to refill the dispenser. The pump has on its top a pan to collect liquid spilled as the disposable container is inserted. The pump and container are enclosed in a plastic housing which hinges from a plastic wall plate. A plastic latch with plastic key is used to lock the housing to the wall mounting plate. The pump mechanism uses a piston of two sections of different diameter and corresponding piston chamber of two sections of different diameter. There is an adjustable piston stroke length limiting mechanism. The piston is attached to the lever which moves the piston by means of a crossbar on the end of the piston rod. The crossbar is inserted in a slot in the lever and then turned to cross the slot.

Abstract: For automotive use, an inexpensive gasoline tank theft guard adjustably attached so that owner may integrate the guard or not by choice of a quick manual setting. The guard utilizes a gasoline fill-tube cover, a lockable body-entry panel, and the owner's key and perhaps his license plate for intercepting access to the gasoline tank when cover and panel are proximate and closed, and for protection against gasoline theft when entry panel is locked. By way of example, a pin (10, FIGS. 3-6), pivotally anchored inside gasoline fill-tube cover (6) engages a receptacle (9) in the trunk lid (2) when the lid closes (FIG. 5). Owner's key (1) unlocks lid to free pin. Anchor heads (4, FIG. 3) are concealed behind mounted license plate (7, FIG. 4) and are designed to frustrate tampering. Stability and rattle of the adjustable pin are controlled manually (FIG. 7) and automatically (FIG. 8). Pin (10) pivots manually aside to disconnect the system.
