Publication number: 20020105193Abstract: A sliding closure (door or window) lock has a rectangular tubular enclosure which has a plunger mounted on am interior camshaft. Rotation of the camshaft by a handle or lever moves the plunger between an extended position, where its serrated outer end frictionally engages an interior surface of the channel for the closure, and a retracted position without frictional engagement. The enclosure has an adjacent apertured flange to secure it to an inner surface of the closure. The device may be made of two plates in which case one plate forms two walls of the enclosure and the flange, and the other the other two walls and a thickness of the flange. A stub flange also with apertures on remote corner of the enclosure allows the plates to be fastened at the other side of the enclosure.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 18, 2002Publication date: August 8, 2002Inventor: Benjamin Plett

Patent number: 6065314Abstract: A locking mechanism used to provide heightened security for storage containers. The locking mechanism uses a padlock to lock the doors, but unlike past inventions the padlock has only limited exposure to the outside of the storage container. This prevents thieves or vandals from being able to pry or break the lock open. Further, the essential components of the locking mechanism are all housed in a protective frame which prohibits tampering with the individual components of the door lock mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1998Date of Patent: May 23, 2000Inventor: John W. Patent number: 5934116Abstract: A locking apparatus is provided for locking the rear doors of a trailer that has door closing members that include left and right vertical bars on the doors and horizontal clasps that attach respectively to the bars. The apparatus includes a pair of structural blocks that are attached to the doors using bolting or welding for example. A hollow spanning member is transversely positioned to span between the blocks, the spanner member having a central open-ended bore that communicates with preferably both end portions of the bar. Each of the blocks has a receptacle that slidably receives an end portion of the bar. One of the blocks has a vertical channel that extends through the block between its upper and lower surfaces and which communicates with the receptacle. This enables a locking member to be positioned in the channel and form a connection with the bar at the intersection of the receptacle and the channel.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 1998Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Inventor: Donald F. Patent number: 5718467Abstract: A racking resistant door control mechanism for securing a pivoted door employs an elongate lock rod that extends the height of the door, is journaled for pivotal movement about a lock rod axis by door mounted bearing assemblies, and has cam type latch members welded to its opposite ends for engaging keeper members carried by upper and lower parts of a door frame. The cam and keeper members feature novel, compact arrangements of interengageable formations that are located on opposite sides of, but relatively near to, the lock rod axis of the locked door--formations that cooperate in bringing the door to its fully closed position, in securely retaining the door closed, in preventing racking movements of the closed door and its adjacent door frame, and in breaking the door open when ice formations, cold seals or the like resist initial opening movement of the door.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 1996Date of Patent: February 17, 1998Assignee: The Eastern CompanyInventors: Lee S. Patent number: 5718466Abstract: A racking resistant door control mechanism for securing a pivoted door employs an elongate lock rod that extends the height of the door and is journaled for pivotal movement by bearing assemblies having steel covers that enclose plastic bearing liners. The lock rod has upper and lower cam-type latch members welded to its opposite ends for engaging keeper members carried by upper and lower parts of a door frame for holding the door closed. The lock rod extends through and is welded to a steel sleeve at a location spaced a short distance upwardly from the lower latch member. If the lock rod is formed from two elongate elements instead of one, the sleeve is welded to both to aid in forming a connection therebetween. Racking resistance is provided by locating the sleeve and the bearing assemblies such that the steel covers of the bearing assemblies are held in engagement with the latch members and with opposite ends of the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1995Date of Patent: February 17, 1998Assignee: The Eastern CompanyInventors: Lee S.
