  • Patent number: 8451087
Abstract: A passive entry system for an vehicle door requires no active operator input to gain entrance to the vehicle. A door module recognizes the signal transmitted by an authorized key fob to identify the operator of the vehicle. The authentication of the operator coupled with the operator touching a sensor on the door to be opened actuates a release actuator that unlatches the selected door. The spring-load provided by the door seal will pop the door open from the closed position. A key cylinder, which can be located substantially anywhere on the door, is coupled mechanically to the release latch for use if the battery is weak and cannot activate the release actuator. An LED signals the state of the opening sequence for the door. The fixed door handle can incorporate a membrane switch or a capacitive sensor to indicate the selection of the door by the operator when touched.

  • Patent number: 7210711
Abstract: The solution according to the invention is based upon the knowledge that the undesirable hysteresis of the force-path function in door locks (1) can be avoided or at least minimised if the (frictional) forces acting during transitions from open positions to closed positions and vice versa are minimised and/or avoided. In this respect, the invention is based upon the starting point of at least reducing (frictional) forces acting in bearings for rotatable components (14, 18, 28) of door locks (1) and/or between surfaces (22, 30) displaceable relative to one another. In this manner, it is attained that forces required for a transition from a closed position to an open position essentially correspond to forces required for a transition from the open position to the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4720004
Abstract: A coin-operated latch mechanism for a newspaper rack includes a coin-receiving mechanism into which coins are deposited. A coin-return mechanism is provided which, when depressed, swings the coin-receiving mechanism to a position in which the outlets of the coin slots overly a coin-return diverter. The coin-return diverter is normally disposed in a coin return mode and is moved to a coin retention position in response to the opening of a door of the rack. A key-actuated wall of the rack is mounted on hinges which permit a simplified removal of the wall from the rack. The key-actuated wall includes a latch which enables the wall to be closed and relatched without the use of a key.

  • Patent number: 4709950
Abstract: A crash bar door locking device is provided, suited for mounting on the inside of a swinging door. The crash bar is mounted horizontally across the door providing ready access by movement in the outside direction. The crash bar activates a pivotal lever which causes a latch bolt to rotate inwardly and disengage from a door strike. The pivotal lever provides a deadbolt feature by preventing the rotation of the latch bolt. A release is incorporated in the latch bolt and allows the latch bolt to rotate when the release engages the door strike as the door closes. An additional unlocking mechanism may be provided for retracting the latch bolt from the outside of the door independently of the crossbar. A firelocking mechanism may be incorporated in the latch bolt to secure the latch bolt when a fire occurs. Two pins with a spring between them are retained by fusible plugs at either end of a bore in the latch bolt, so that the latch bolt operates as a normal lock on the door.

  • Patent number: 4620744
Abstract: A slide door locking device for vehicles during feeding of fuel to a fuel tank positioned near a slide door, wherein a stopper lever is so pivotally mounted inside a panel of a body, the panel defining the rear end of a door opening, that the front end of the stopper lever may project into the door opening beyond the front end of the panel and engage with a stop member attached to the slide door, and an actuating lever is pivotally disposed to the panel, projecting into a hollow formed in the panel, for a fuel supply inlet, and is coupled to the rear end of the stopper lever via a link member. When the actuating lever is operated during feeding of fuel to a fuel tank, the front end of the stopper lever engages with the stop member of the slide door to prevent it from opening when it is opened.

A bracket pivotally mounts the handle and a first locking member on the panel. The handle is movable between a first latching orientation in which the panel is secured to the vehicle and a second non-latching orientation in which the panel is removable from the vehicle. A second locking member, provided on the handle, cooperates with the first to lock the handle in the latching orientation. The second locking member is key-actuable to be moved out of locking cooperation with the first to permit movement of the handle to the non-latching orientation.

  • Patent number: 4545606
Abstract: In combination with a door hinged at one edge within a door jamb with a latch assembly mounted upon a closing edge and a strike on the jamb in registry with the latch assembly which comprises a latch within a housing pivotally mounted upon the door upon a first axis and projecting from the housing and having a lock position receiving the strike and normally biased towards an unlocked position, the strike on closing the door rotating the latch to its locking position, there being a locking aperture upon the latch. A yoke, normally biased towards a locking position and rotatable to an unlocked position is pivotally mounted upon the housing upon a second axis and mounts a latch pin adapted for interlocking registry with the lock aperture when the latch is in locking position. A spring biased reciprocal latch bar has an actuator which is adapted on retraction to retract the yoke to an unlocked position, the latch being free to move to its unlocked position on opening of the door relative to the strike.

  • Patent number: 4280725
Abstract: The present invention provides a safety door-mounted latch mechanism available and accessible from within an enclosure that is normally locked by means of the door. A freezer or refrigerator door, for example, may be provided with the latch which is capable of being locked from the outside by means of either a padlock or an integral cylinder which receives a key. A radial tongue of the latch cooperatively engages a striker mechanism. The result is the ability of a person otherwise trapped within the enclosure to reach safety. A novel linkage-type of mechanism having a plurality of pivot points translates rectilinear actuating movement into an arcuate movement of the tongue or keeper member.

  • Patent number: 4237711
Abstract: There is disclosed a lock mechanism that has been designed to take up a minimum amount of space and thus be accommodatable in a relatively shallow structure. Said lock mechanism includes a pivotally mounted latch bolt, a deadlock member associated with said latch bolt, with biasing means urging said deadlock member to a locking position. To control the operation of the deadlock member there is provided a deadlock trigger and a deadlock position lever providing an operational connection between said trigger and the deadlock member. A primary operating lever as provided comprised of a first pivotally mounted arm portion and a second arm portion integral therewith and connected with the latch bolt by a loss motion connection. The pivot axis for said latch bolt, said primary operating lever and said deadlock member are disposed parallel to and adjacent the front plate of the casing structure, thereby enabling the lock mechanism to be accommodated and to function within a shallow casing structure.

  • Patent number: 4230351
Abstract: A latching mechanism is provided for latching a door to a fixed frame member. A keeper is secured to the frame member. A support structure is secured to the door for pivotally mounting a pawl and a pawl-actuating lever for pivotal movement about first and second fixed axes, respectively. The pawl and lever are interconnected by a link bar, secured by first and second pivot pins, respectively. When the lever is in a latched position, forces applied to the door in a door-opening direction impose a compressional load on the interconnecting link bar. When the lever is moved between latched and unlatched positions, an extension of the line drawn between the first and second pivot pins of the link bar will pass across the fixed axis about which the lever is pivotal. Thus, the link bar functions as a over-center toggle element which is placed under a compressional load when forces are applied to the door in a door-opening direction.

Abstract: A one-piece continuous resilient rod extends between spaced apart latch bolts and has its ends operatively connected to the latch bolts. The unrestrained free length of the rod exceeds the spaced relation between the latched positions of the latch bolts so that the rod is flexed and resiliently biases the latch bolts to their respective latched positions. A rotatably journalled handle engages the rod intermediate the latch bolts. Rotation of the handle flexes the rod, and shortens its effective length to withdraw the ends of the flexible rod toward each other and simultaneously move the latch bolts from their latched position to their unlatched position.
