  • Patent number: 8451087
Abstract: A passive entry system for an vehicle door requires no active operator input to gain entrance to the vehicle. A door module recognizes the signal transmitted by an authorized key fob to identify the operator of the vehicle. The authentication of the operator coupled with the operator touching a sensor on the door to be opened actuates a release actuator that unlatches the selected door. The spring-load provided by the door seal will pop the door open from the closed position. A key cylinder, which can be located substantially anywhere on the door, is coupled mechanically to the release latch for use if the battery is weak and cannot activate the release actuator. An LED signals the state of the opening sequence for the door. The fixed door handle can incorporate a membrane switch or a capacitive sensor to indicate the selection of the door by the operator when touched.

  • Patent number: 7059639
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a hood latch cable retaining system. A cable mounting cavity for a conventional snap-fit cable fastener is provided in a latch support structure of the hood release mechanism. A retainer is mounted to the latch support structure and positioned such that a flange portion of the retainer having a confronting edge is spaced a predetermined distance and offset from the center line of the cable mounting cavity. The latch support structure may be deformed or repositioned during a frontal vehicle impact, causing the confronting edge of the flange to come into contact with the control cable. The confronting edge impedes the snap-fit fastener from disengaging from the latch support structure, preventing the vehicle hood from inadvertently opening.

  • Patent number: 6092845
Abstract: A vehicle hood latch and release mechanism is latched when the hood striker engages the latch portion of the mechanism as the hood is moved to its closed position. The mechanism is actuated to release the hood striker by a pushing action on the cable or strand movable in the sheath of a cable assembly rather than by the typical pulling action on current hood releasing mechanisms. The pushing action is obtained with actuation of a hood latching and releasing control, by movement of a handle which operatively pushes on the cable or strand, transmitting a longitudinally compressive force rather than a longitudinally tensional force to the latch mechanism and moving that mechanism to the striker-released position. Release of the control permits one or more springs to cause the control handle to be returned to its position wherein the latching and release mechanism is ready to again be latched to the hood striker.

  • Patent number: 5233849
Abstract: A remote control latch assembly includes a fork-bolt and detent style latch carried on the moveable deck lid of a vehicle. A key actuator is spaced from the latch and receives a standard key for unlatching the deck lid from a covered position over the trunk compartment. The key actuator includes a frame attached directly to the moveable deck lid, and a rotor supported in the frame and turned by the key. An involute track is formed in the frame having the rotor as its theoretical base cylinder. A core element operatively extends between the rotor and the latch. A conduit guidably surrounds the core element and includes a flange adjacent a terminal end portion thereof slideably received in the involute track. The angular orientation of the conduit is adjusted relative to the key actuator frame without relative lengthwise movement between the core element and the conduit by sliding the flange in the involute track.

Abstract: A computer panel includes a panel member to be locked against the side of a computer casing from which the disk drives are accessed. The panel member has a window opening to access the disk drives. A cover is hinged to the panel member to close the window opening. A first lock is provided on the panel member to lock the panel member against the computer casing. A second lock is similarly provided on the panel member to lock the cover against the panel member. A key operable rotary actuator is mounted on the panel member and connected to the first and second locks to simultaneously actuate the first and second locks to unlock the cover from the panel member and the panel member from the computer casing when the rotary actuator is operated by a key.

  • Patent number: 5054826
Abstract: The vehicle has a luggage compartment panel which carries a latch engageable with a striker mounted on the vehicle body. A release trigger carried by the latch is positioned near the striker when the latch engages the striker. An actuator member is movably mounted on the striker and has an actuator arm extending into proximity with the trigger. A remote release handle mounted in the operator compartment is connected to the actuator member so that operator actuation of the release handle moves the actuator member relative the striker to carry the actuator arm into engagement with the trigger and actuate the trigger to unlatch the latch. A hinge is interposed in the actuator member by which the operator may fold the actuator member to a folded condition removing the actuator arm from proximity with the release trigger so that operator actuation of the remote release handle moves the actuator member without releasing the latch.

  • Patent number: 4962955
Abstract: A luggage compartment lid openable upon release of the deck lid latch and a release handle mounted in the operator compartment and connected to the latch by a cable for remotely releasing the latch upon operator actuation of the release handle. A drive gear is rotatably mounted on the latch to release the latch upon rotation of the drive gear. An actuator gear is also rotatably mounted on the latch and has gear teeth meshing with gear teeth of the drive gear. The actuator gear is connected to the cable so that operator actuation of the release handle rotates the actuator gear and the drive gear to release the latch. A shift bar is located inside the luggage compartment and is operable to selectively shaft the actuator gear away from the drive gear so that the gear teeth are disengaged and operator actuation of the release handle is thereby disconnected from the latch so that the deck lid cannot be opened without the use of a key to operate the conventional key cylinder release of the deck lid.

  • Patent number: 4068871
Abstract: A one-piece continuous resilient rod extends between spaced apart latch bolts and has its ends operatively connected to the latch bolts. The unrestrained free length of the rod exceeds the spaced relation between the latched positions of the latch bolts so that the rod is flexed and resiliently biases the latch bolts to their respective latched positions. A rotatably journalled handle engages the rod intermediate the latch bolts. Rotation of the handle flexes the rod, and shortens its effective length to withdraw the ends of the flexible rod toward each other and simultaneously move the latch bolts from their latched position to their unlatched position. An integral coil compression spring may be provided in the continuous rod.
