Patent number: 9644405Abstract: A device for preventing unauthorized opening of a door comprises a bracket, a main handle, and a wedge. The bracket is adapted for mounting the device to a door. The main handle is pivotably attached to the bracket. The main handle has a pivot end attached to the bracket and an opposing grasping end. The main handle is selectively pivotably movable upward and downward. The main handle is adapted such that pivoting the main handle upward moves the grasping end toward the door and pivoting the main handle downward moves the grasping end away from the door. The wedge is pivotably affixed to the main handle and biased toward the door when the main handle is in a downward position. The main handle is adapted to push a distal end of the wedge at least partly under a bottom surface of the door when the main handle is pivoted downward.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2016Date of Patent: May 9, 2017Assignee: LOW COUNTRY CREATIVE, LLCInventors: Chris McCann, Scott A. Publication number: 20090218829Abstract: The invention is a locking device for a garbage dumpster. The invention includes a vertical channel attached to the front wall of a dumpster. A spring loaded vertical post extends through the vertical channel. A locking mechanism is attached to the spring loaded vertical post and rotatably attached to the top of the vertical channel. When a dumpster is on the ground, the weight of the dumpster against the ground engages the lock on top of the dumpster lid. When the dumpster is lifted from ground, the lock is disengaged from the dumpster lid via a spring.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 26, 2008Publication date: September 3, 2009Inventors: James R. Patent number: 6966583Abstract: The present invention is a gravity-sensitive latch. The latch includes a pendulum pivotally secured between the actuating button or handle and the pawl. When the latch is in a first position, gravity acting on the pendulum rotates the pendulum so that it abuts the button or handle, permitting actuation of the latch. When the latch is in a second orientation, gravity acting on the pendulum rotates the pendulum away from the button or handle, thereby preventing actuation of the latch. The latch may use a wide variety of buttons, handles, or pawl/keeper combinations.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2001Date of Patent: November 22, 2005Assignee: Southco, Inc.Inventors: Lianli Ji, Robert Straka, Gerry Clisham

Patent number: 5201434Abstract: A standard garbage receiving dumpster is provided with a locking bar disposed across its lid. A locking mechanism cooperating with the locking bar is added to the dumpster to prevent the locking bar from rotating when the dumpster is in an upright position. A lock is provided which when opened permits the locking bar to be disengaged from the locking mechanism to allow authorized users to rotate the locking bar and open the dumpster lid to permit the deposit of garbage therein. The locking mechanism is disengaged when the dumpster is in an inverted position to permit the lid to open and the contents of the dumpster to be removed.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1992Date of Patent: April 13, 1993Assignee: De Vivo Industries, Inc.Inventors: Mario DeVivo, Mariano Tucciarone

Patent number: 4494784Abstract: A door-stop for handicapped people and particularly people in wheel chairs which permits the person to push a self-closing door open and lock it in an open position before passing through the doorway. The door-stop is comprised of a pivoted cross bar mounted at a convenient height traverse to the door connected by means of a lever to a door-stop at the corner of the door. The door can thus be pushed open and the cross bar moved downward to lock the door-stop. After the person passes through the door, he can simply lift the cross bar to release the door-stop allowing the door to close.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1981Date of Patent: January 22, 1985Inventor: Harvey H.
