Patent number: 8636308Abstract: One embodiment of an improved gate latch pull cable of the type being made of metal for durability and having a one-piece clevis clip secured to one end for easy attachment to a gate latch, and a pull loop secured with a cable sleeve on the other end for securely grasping the cable. The clevis clip incorporates an integral clevis pin eliminating loose parts, and a fillet transition to the cable to prevent it from catching on edges. Surrounding the cable is a tapered return-spring which assists in gate latch closure, and a spring cup which fits in a gate post hole for centering the large diameter of the spring over the hole. The small diameter of the spring is proximal to the clevis clip, and lightly pushes against a gate latch cam. The tapered spring coils fit inside each other when compressed allowing the gate latch to fully open.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2010Date of Patent: January 28, 2014Inventor: Eric Francis Calamia, III

Patent number: 7726706Abstract: A latch mechanism for gates and the like for readily latching a slide bar to a locking unit. The locking unit has a block with a front and back plate that are fixedly attached to each other about portions of peripheries of the front and back plates that define an opening with a side slot and at least one adjacent top or bottom slot. Positioned within at least one top or bottom slot is at least one pivoting release lever having a first leg and a second leg movable about a pivot. One of the legs has a portion configured to engage a portion of a slide bar when restraining movement of the slide bar relative to the block. Patent number: 7140211Abstract: This invention relates to a security system aimed at closing and locking a cover of an opening of a tank trailer to avoid any tampering of its content and to prove that the content of the tank has not been tampered. The security system comprises a locking member movable between a lock position to prevent the opening of the cover, and an unlock position to allow the opening of the cover. The invention also comprises an actuating device mounted to the tank trailer operatively connected to the locking member for moving it between the lock and the unlock positions. A sealing mechanism engages the actuating device when the locking member is in the lock position to prevent any movement of the locking member. The sealing mechanism comprises a breakable indicator which is broken upon disengagement from the actuating device, thereby indicating that the openable cover has been tampered with.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2004Date of Patent: November 28, 2006Assignee: Tremcar Inc.Inventor: Daniel Tremblay

Patent number: 7029041Abstract: A door closing mechanism for pulling a door tight to a frame to which the door is mounted comprises a latch arm assembly having a latch arm pivotally secured to a panel of the door and pivotable between a first, open position and a second, latched position. An activating mechanism is operably connected to the latch arm assembly by a connecting apparatus and actuates the latch arm between its first and second positions. A latch member is secured to the jamb in which the door is mounted and is arranged and constructed so that when the latch arm is moved into its second, closed position, the latch arm engages the latch member and exerts force upon the latch member in a direction substantially normal to the plane of the door so as to cause the door to contact the door frame over substantially its entire height.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2003Date of Patent: April 18, 2006Inventor: Richard D. Patent number: 6170892Abstract: There is disclosed an improvement in a latch for a gate which comprises a latch bar and a cooperating latch mechanism. The latch mechanism has a frame with a flange base for attachment to a gate post and a tongue with a slot to receive the latch bar that is pivotally mounted on the frame. A lever arm extends from the tongue and a gate latch pull is attached to the lever arm and extended through a bore in the gate post to permit operation of the latch from the opposite side of the gate. The improvement of this invention is a gate latch pull that is formed of a flexible plastic having a flexural strength (modulus) no less than about 5,000 psi and a thickness sufficient to permit the latch pull to flex and follow the arcuate movement of the lever arm while retaining sufficient stiffness to permit the pushing of the lever to overcome interference in closing the latch. Preferably the latch pull is provided with a snap retainer to secure one end to the latch tongue lever, and with finger grips at each end.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1997Date of Patent: January 9, 2001Inventor: Paul Lantiegne

Patent number: 5358292Abstract: A gate latch of the type including a latch bar mounted for movement with a hinged gate and a latch bracket secured to a stationary gate post disposed for engagement with the latch bar when the gate is in a closed position includes an elongated wire cable having a first end secured to a pivotal latch lever mounted in the latch bracket. The pivotal latch lever includes a recess for partially surrounding the latch bar in a latched position. A second end of the cable extends through a bore in the gate post and is secured to an enlarged handle for manual tensioning of the cable to move the pivotal latch lever to an unlatched position. A pair of bushings are disposed in opposite outer end portions of the bore formed through the gate post and include exposed radially extending abutment flanges.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1993Date of Patent: October 25, 1994Inventors: Peter C. Patent number: 5243325Abstract: A switch assembly having a frame bracket with screw holes designed to permit easy and convenient attachment to the frame of a latch gate. The bracket is designed to support a switch arm, a portion of which engages the latch bar mounted on the door or gate of the latch gate. The switch arm includes a contact which is in electrical communication with a switch pole whenever the latch gate is not fully closed and secured. However, when the latch is fully secured, the switch assembly of the present invention is designed to permit the latch bar to engage the switch arm to interrupt electrical communication between the switch arm contact and the switch pole. Thus, the present invention is designed to provide a normally closed switch whenever a latch gate is not fully secured in its locked position for energizing an alarm circuit and to de-energize such an alarm circuit only when the latch gate is in its fully secured and locked position.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1991Date of Patent: September 7, 1993Inventors: Ricardo E. Patent number: 5078438Abstract: A manually operated latch for a gate closure is disclosed herein having a resilient helical coil with extended end portions secured to the ends of a pair of hand grips. The end portions are disposed to extend at an angle with respect to each other so that the normal bias of the coil forcibly urges the hand grips away from each other. A keeper loosely secured between the end portions holds the hand grips from separating beyond a predetermined set position and permits yieldable closing or drawing of the hand grips together against the expanding bias of the coil. A pair of latch members are rigidly carried on the end portions and extend towards each other in a normally biased condition to draw overlapping latch elements together.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 1991Date of Patent: January 7, 1992Inventor: Christopher Bieganski

Patent number: 4993759Abstract: A gate latch for use with a gate mounted for pivotal movement relative to a stationary fence includes a transversely extending latch bar secured to the gate and a latch member pivotally mounted on a mounting plate secured to the fence. In a first embodiment, a safety latch attachment includes an adapter plate configured for partial overlying attachment adjacent the latch mounting plate and having a reciprocal spring biased plunger in alignment with a transverse aperture formed through a latch frame on the mounting plate. When in a latched position, the plunger prevents the pivotal latch member from being unlatched. A pulley guided cable is connected to retract the plunger to allow the gate to be unlatched. In a second embodiment, the safety latch attachment mechanism is provided as an integral unit on a common mounting plate with the pivotal latch member.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1990Date of Patent: February 19, 1991Inventor: Peter C. Thomas
