Patent number: 7500701Abstract: One aspect of the present invention includes a sealing ring having a split-ring annular band which includes a first and second end. A first tab is disposed at the first end, with the first tab extending away from the annular band. The first tab also includes a first threaded aperture. A second tab is disposed at the second end, with the second tab also extending away from the annular band The second tab also includes a second threaded aperture. Additionally, a thread of the first aperture is different from a thread of the second aperture. Further, the sealing ring includes a fastener threadedly engaged with the first and second apertures. Rotation of the fastener adjusts a radial dimension of the annular band.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2006Date of Patent: March 10, 2009Assignee: Thomas & Betts International, Inc.Inventors: Daniel Lalancette, Yves Boucher

Patent number: 6443507Abstract: A method and container for transporting and storing chemical compounds susceptible to exothermic decomposition. The method including placing the chemical compounds in a container where the opening and the rim of the container are sealed by means of a cover and a clamping strap, and the clamping strap is designed to release the cover from the rim of said container at a predetermined level of superatmospheric pressure in the container to open up the entire top for relief of the superatmospheric pressure. When exothermic decomposition occurs, the invention provides substantial and instant pressure relief, which, in turn, avoids cracking and/or fragmentation of the container.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1996Date of Patent: September 3, 2002Assignee: Akzo Nobel NVInventor: Albert Korvemaker

Patent number: 6435576Abstract: An annular closure ring and bolt assembly for securing a lid or cover in sealed relation with an open-head drum is provided in which an annular split closure ring is closed by tightening a bolt between a pair of laterally spaced lugs attached to opposite ends of the closure ring. Each lug includes a hole to receive the bolt wherein at least one lug hole is unthreaded, and the bolt includes a shoulder or sleeve such that when the bolt is inserted into the unthreaded hole, the shoulder fits substantially flush with that unthreaded hole. The bolt engages either a threaded hole in one of the lugs or a jam nut to draw the lugs together and tighten the closure ring around the drum. The tight engagement between the unthreaded hole of the lug and the shoulder of the bolt thereby reduces movement of the bolt within the unthreaded hole to secure the connection of the ring around the open-head drum.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2001Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Inventor: Lenix Fred Kusta
