Patent number: 5353660Abstract: The invention pertains to a locking mechanism consisting of a guide lever arm (1) and a sliding lever arm (5), in which one end of each of the lever arm pivots about a bearing (10, 11) at a certain distance from the other lever arm, in which the other end of the sliding lever arm (5).is slidingly coupled with a slot (4) in the other end of the guide lever arm (1) by a pin (7) connected with the sliding lever arm (5), and in which the lever arms can be swiveled into two end positions. A force (2) exerted on the guide lever arm (1) in one of the end positions for the purpose of swiveling the guide lever arm (1) into the other end position is compensated in a selflocking way in the slot (4) by a recess in the area of the other end of the guide lever arm (1), and this locking effect can be removed only by a force (6) exerted on the sliding lever arm (5) in the direction of the other end position.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1993Date of Patent: October 11, 1994Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventor: Thomas Heck

Patent number: 5071180Abstract: An arresting device for a hinged component such as a window or roof hatch of a motor vehicle has a peg mounted to a first member, which in turn is pivotally mounted to the hinged component or to the frame for the hinged component. A guide rail is pivotally mounted to the other one of the frame or the hinged component and has a slot in which the peg slides. A gate is slidably mounted to the guide rail and also has a slot in which the peg slides. The slots in the guide rail and the gate each have at least one recess formed in their sides which are selectively alignable such that the peg can move into the aligned recesses. At least the recess on the guide rail has a notch formed at one end to positively hold the peg. Preferably, the gate and/or guide rail are spring biased so that the peg will move into the recesses when they are aligned. When the recesses are not aligned, the side of the slot on the gate covers the recess on the guide rail, and vice-versa, preventing the peg from moving into the recesses.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1990Date of Patent: December 10, 1991Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventors: Horst Wiedehage, Peter Christ

Patent number: 4259811Abstract: A releasable retaining means for mounting on the inside of an outward opening closure element movable to open and close an opening. First and second mounting means (13 and 14) are respectively mountable on the closure element (11) and opening surround (12) with a stay (15) slidably and pivotably coupled to the second mounting means (14). Stay (15) is pivotably couplable by engagement means (22) to the first mounting means (13) and releasable therefrom by sliding stay (15) relative to mounting means (14) but only when the closure element is closed. Recoupling means (16, 24) automatically cause the engagement means (22) to couple to said first mounting means (13) when the closure (11) is moved into the closed position. The retaining means thus prevents closure element (11) from opening more than a predetermined amount unless the stay (15) is released from the first mounting means (13) prior to opening the closure element (11).Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1979Date of Patent: April 7, 1981Assignee: Interlock Industries LimitedInventor: Ronald P. Patent number: 4226453Abstract: A pivoting arm door lock mechanism is disclosed which allows the user to lock the door in a fully closed position or a partially opened position merely by positioning a single arm. The mechanism also permits the user to open the door to an intermediate position without locking it in that position. The mechanism consists of a slidable T-bolt attached to the door which slides along a generally horizontal axis. A slotted arm, being pivotable in a generally vertical plane, is attached to the door jamb such that the head of the T-bolt engages the slot in the pivoting arm. In order for the T-bolt head to pass through the pivoting arm, the arm must be in a vertical orientation. When in this position, the door is locked in a fully closed position since the longitudinal axis of the T-bolt passes through the pivoting axis of the arm. In order to open the door to either a first or second partially opened positions, the arm is rotated to a horizontal position which allows the T-bolt to slide along its slot.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1979Date of Patent: October 7, 1980Inventor: Gene V. Patent number: 4120523Abstract: An improved fastening device for use on doors and the like which includes a bolt, or latch, having a guide with stops therein in which slide a pair of pins on a flange which is to be fixedly attached to the door. The bolt has a mouth with a flared opening into which fits a rectangular, shaped pin of a catch which is attached to the door frame. The bolt can be moved with respect to the flange pins so that the mouth opening clears and accepts the latch pin. Also the bolt can pivot with respect to the pins to tilt and thereby allow a partial, controlled opening of the door in which position the mouth opening cannot clear the latch pin so that the door cannot be opened. In a further embodiment the latch pin can be rotated by a key so that the bolt can clear the pin with the door in a controlled open position.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1977Date of Patent: October 17, 1978Assignee: Montajes Electronicos Dorcas S.A.Inventor: D.
