  • Patent number: 5757269
Abstract: A closure latch or bolt monitoring device having a housing mountable in a closure frame which housing receives a latch or bolt. A pivotal rocker plate is normally biased to a rest position in which a flange portion of the rocker engages a switch connectable to an alarm system. When a latch or bolt is extended into the housing, the rocker plate is pivoted causing it to disengage from the switch providing an indication to the alarm system that the bolt or latch is properly engaged in the closure. An alternate embodiment allows separate monitoring of two lock components such as a separate bolt and latch.

  • Patent number: 5752728
Abstract: An alarm-triggering locking mechanism for the lock and/or hinge area of a door to be secured or a window to be secured is proposed, which is embodied as a locking plate (23) which can be attached to a door or window frame by means of holding screws (27) embodied as the first blocking device. A second blocking device, which is harder to overcome by the effect of force, is embodied as at least one striker element (25) rigidly connected with the locking plate (23) and which, following the limited movement of the locking plate (23) in the opening direction, comes to rest against a counter-striker element (26) anchored on the door or window frame. An alarm, in particular a silent alarm, is triggered via radio or the telephone net after the first blocking device has been overcome. The burglar is thereafter delayed by the second blocking device, which makes it possible for security forces to reach the location of the break-in and to arrest the burglar while the break-in is still in progress.

  • Patent number: 5722706
Abstract: A motor-vehicle door latch for securing a door to a doorpost has a support mounted on a doorpost, a bolt projecting from the support, and a latch fork pivoted on the door, including a switch-actuating part, and movable between an engaged position interfitting with the bolt and retaining the door in a closed position fixed relative to the doorpost and a disengaged position out of engagement with the bolt and permitting the door to move relative to the doorpost. A switch on the support detects the position of the switch-actuating part and generates a door-closed output when the fork is in the engaged position and a door-open output when the fork is in the disengaged position.

  • Patent number: 5704666
Abstract: The security device is suitable for use with any conventional dead bolt lock mounted on a door. It comprises a plate shaped to extend flat on the outer lateral surface of the doorframe. A security lever is mounted on the security device and is pivotable about a vertical axis adjacent to the plate. The security lever includes an inner arm extending on one side of the plate in the cavity of the doorframe in a position such that the dead bolt, in a lock position, abuts on the inner arm and causes the lever to pivot around its axis. The lever further includes an outer arm extending on another side of the plate shaped and sized to extend on the door behind the dead bolt, when the dead bolt has been brought to a lock position and has caused the lever to pivot around its axis. With a security device according to the present invention, the locking of the dead bolt lock is performed in only one step by simply engaging the door lock, thereby engaging the security device simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 5639129
Abstract: A door latch and sealing assembly associated with a waste container having an open end and at least one door positioned adjacent to and overlying the open end. The assembly includes a tapered seal actuator, and a seal actuator drive mechanism associated with the seal actuator and adapted to drive the seal actuator. A receiver is rigidly attached to the container and is adapted for operable engagement with the seal actuator. An elastomeric gasket is positioned between the open end and the door. In operation, extension of the seal actuator drive mechanism causes the seal actuator to engage the receiver; the receiver then reactively imparts to the seal actuator a compressive force on the door sufficient to establish a liquid-tight or hermetic seal.

  • Patent number: 5584517
Abstract: An improved secure latch for a fixture having a door with a double-wall structure, including an endwall with an exit port and an inner sidewall with a slot near the endwall and parallel thereto. An entry port of a facing member and an orifice of a tongue, slidably receivable through the slot, of a latch attached to the facing member are aligned with the exit port as the door is in a closed configuration such that a bolt of a lock installed in the door is slidable therethrough as the bolt is displaced between a locked configuration and an unlocked configuration. The secure latch is adapted to retain the door in a closed configuration as the bolt is in a locked configuration even though the facing member may be forced clear of the bolt. Further, the secure latch prevents the lock from being sprung open without inflicting severe and visible damage to the door and/or the facing member. A modified embodiment provides the endwall without the exit port and the facing member without the entry port.

Abstract: An improved latch guarded door lock and frame system is provided. A recessed surface is provided in a hollow metal frame, and is dimensioned to accommodate a latch guard so that the external surfaces of the door, frame and latch guard are flush. The recessed surface of the frame behind the latch guard is further reinforced by employing a thicker wall than is used in the rest of the frame, and by welding a square metal tube into the recessed region. A medial metal support is also welded into the lock box cavity in order to prevent the lock box from collapsing under stress. The resulting door lock and frame system is less penetrable than prior systems, and provides greater security because the latch guard is less vulnerable to prying and because the frame and lock box are reinforced, thus less likely to collapse under stress.

  • Patent number: 5154461
Abstract: A door secured system includes a door reinforcing rigid metal member (20) across the width of a presently installed door or imbedded within the construction of a new door (20a) to prevent the breaking in of the center of th edoor (panel, rails, etc.) having an L-shaped end at the strike area (24) to strength the lock and strike area. On a presently installed door, fingers (26, 26a & 26b) at the hinge side of the reinforcing rigid metal member (20) with a special hinge (28 and 30) and pin (27) combination five added strength to the hinge system. This also allows easy removal on special occasions. The reinforcing rigid metal member (20a) within the construction of a new door has an L-shaped end (62) for securely attaching a hinge plate (not shown), giving added strength to the hinge side of the door. The rigid metal member (20+20a) has an opening (22) to encompass a cylindrical door lock assembly (46) or dead bolt lock assembly (44). These systems give the same security when in or away from the dwelling.

  • Patent number: 5121950
Abstract: A fire-retardant pivoted door assembly with fire activated latching members includes a metal door frame having jambs and a header in which a fire-retardant door is mounted by a hinge assembly with a lower temperature resistance that the door and frame. Fire actuated latch bolt assemblies in the door are spaced vertically along the hinge side of the door, and include a housing providing an elongated cavity opening at the edge of the door. A latch bolt is slidably seated in the cavity and is biased towards the opening of the cavity. A fusible closure extends across the opening of the cavity and retains the latch bolt against the biasing pressure, and the hinge jamb has a spaced recess formed therein to receive the latch bolt upon melting of the fusible closure.

  • Patent number: 5088780
Abstract: A lock-keeper security shield plate assembly arranged over the usual lock-keeper plate which is in a routed recess of the wooden door jamb lock rail. The reinforcing shield plate is zig-zag shaped having an upset center section and two integrally formed angle face plates, shaped for one said shape to fit all width door frames with door stop rails that also vary in face width. One said face plate defines a bolt opening that is to be aligned with a bolt aperture of an underlying lock-keeper plate of a dead bolt mechanism, the other face plate defines a screw aperture in a key location in relation to a tubular dead bolt lock cylinder assembly mounted on a said door that virtually prevents tampering with the elongated anchor screw driven through said screw hole, through face of stop rail of wood jamb and framing studs there behind, said location of anchor screw in space relation to said lock cylinder rim prevents the removal of said anchor screw (door closed).
