The rose is mounted to the door via the mounting holes and includes a spring for returning the lever handle to horizontal. A first adapter piece is rotatably driven by the spring to return to a home position relative to the rose. Detents on the outside member of the mounting chassis receive the pips of the outside trim rose and secure the outside trim rose against the outside face of the door; and grooves on the inside member of the mounting chassis receive the pips of the inside trim rose.

  • Patent number: 5564296
Abstract: A kit for converting a key-in-knob lockset to a lever handle operated lock employs the existing cylindrical lock and its associated latch bolt. The conversion apparatus employs a lever handle having a non-circular shank portion which is received in, and thus drives, a resiliently biased coupling device which is interpositioned between the handle and a rose housing affixed to the door. The existing cylindrical lock is supported within the lever handle shank portion by a dummy bible member in such a manner as to prevent forces resulting from operation of the lever handle from damaging the cylindrical lock.

  • Patent number: 5481890
Abstract: A field conversion means to convert a knob-handle cylindrical lockset either with or without a key cylinder, installed in a door, to a lever-handle cylindrical lockset without changing any existing original key cylinder. The conversion means comprises an inside and an outside means, each including a lever-handle, a drive cartridge adaptor cylinder and a rosette or escutcheon containing a helical spring and a positive stop disk. The spring is biased to oppose droop of said lever-handle from a normal horizontal position and to oppose downward operating force, applied to said lever-handle and is increasingly biased when the lever is operated to oppose downward rotation of the lever. Stop means are provided in the rosette or escutcheon to limit the angular rotational travel of said lever-handle. Differently sized adapters are provided to permit the conversion of different sized cylindrical locks.

  • Patent number: 5482334
Abstract: A door lock having upper and lower vertically spaced actuator seats centered on respective vertically spaced upper and lower axes has a handle assembly having inner and outer mounting plates horizontally flanking the door lock. An upper stem fitted in the upper actuator seat and supported on the inner plate can rotate about the upper actuator axis and carries an inner handle. A lower stem fitted in the lower actuator seat and supported on the outer plate can rotate about the lower axis. An outer stem separate from the inner stem and supported on the outer plate can rotate about the upper axis coaxially with the inner stem and carries an outer handle. Gearing interconnects the outer and lower stems for rotation of the lower stem about the lower axis on rotation of the outer stem about the upper axis.

  • Patent number: 5411303
Abstract: In a door knob assembly, a guide ring for a door fits within a rose member and provides a locator so the rose member is located exactly in the center of the round opening through the door, and provides additional strength to prevent movement of the door knob assembly in the door. The guide ring has guide tubes thereon that align with holes in the inside rose member. The guide tubes ensure that attachment screws to be threadably received in tapped holes in posts of the outside rose member are inserted axially parallel to both the axis of rotation of the door knob assembly and the posts. The guide ring ensures that the screws line up with tapped holes in posts of the outside rose member and do not float or drift out of such alignment.
