  • Patent number: 4248444
Abstract: Steering mechanism for a hospital type carriage such as a mobile stretcher supported by two pairs of spaced fore and aft casters respectively on opposite sides of the same and swivelled about vertical axes, said mechanism comprising a sprocket chain or the like extending around sheaves or sprocket gears connected respectively to one pair of said fore and aft casters, one of said sprocket gears being releasably connectable to the caster upon which it is mounted selectively for rotation with said caster about the swivel axis thereof or permit free swivelling of said caster, the chain being operable to cause the pair of fore and aft casters connected thereby to either travel in a straight line or respectively swivel similar amounts in opposite directions to effect turning movements efficiently, accurately and quickly. Quick disconnect also can be made by cam means foot-actuated to permit free swivelling of all casters.

  • Patent number: 4236396
Abstract: A lockset having a rim mounted latch bolt and a dead bolt arranged in side-by-side relation on a door for engagement within side-by-side openings in a common strike. The dead bolt projects from an edge of the door and is operated from the inside by a turnpiece assembly and from the outside by a key operated lock cylinder mounted in fixed position relative to the door. Inside and outside lever handles journalled for limited angular movement on the turnpiece assembly and on the lock cylinder, respectively, operate the latch bolt from the inner and outer side of the door. The turnpiece assembly is connected to the lock cylinder and the inside lever handle is connected to the outside lever handle through a single transverse bore formed in the door. The present lockset may be installed on a door to replace a cylindrical lockset of key-in-knob type having a single latch bolt without boring an additional hole in the door.

  • Patent number: 4225163
Abstract: A panic device actuator for a door includes apparatus for unlatching a door mounted in a door frame and which includes one or more elements movable for retracting one or more door latches normally engaged with the door frame for positively locking the door. The panic actuator includes a relatively large panel having an enlarged outer face responsive to pressure applied at any area thereon for unlocking the door without a key. A mounting system is provided for supporting the panel on the door for controlled movement in a horizontal direction in continuous parallelism with the face of the door in a direction normal to the door face. A linkage is provided for interconnecting the panel and the door latching element(s) for moving the same to unlock the door latches in response to pressure movement of the panel on the door.

  • Patent number: 4192535
Abstract: A locking mechanism for locking a movable member to a stationary member such as a movable door to a stationary door frame which comprises a member fixed to the door frame and having a projecting rim which cooperates with a U-shaped longitudinal section having a portion for connection to the movable door. The U-shaped longitudinal section receives the projecting rim. The U-shaped longitudinal section is adapted to receive one or more bolts which pass through the walls of the longitudinal section and are adapted to engage within slots or recesses in the projecting rim. At least one slidingly mounted rod is provided to carry the bolts which pass through the slots or recesses in the walls of the U-shaped section and engage the tongue shaped notches for locking the projecting rim with the U-shaped section. Additionally, two vertically adjustable bolts are connected with the sliding rod and these are adapted to engage the threshold and lintel of the door frame.

  • Patent number: 4168616
Abstract: A locking arrangement is described particularly for safe doors including a dial combination lock and a locking-bar mechanism having a plurality of locking bars movable from an extended locking position to a withdrawn unlocking position with respect to the door, the combination lock comprising a rotatably-mounted dial ring circumscribing the rotary dial and coupled to the locking bars to move them between their locking and unlocking positions, the combination lock including a lock-bolt effect when in its locking position to immobilize the locking bars and the dial ring at their locking positions.

  • Patent number: 4142747
Abstract: A double-locking assembly for sliding glass closures is described. The assembly uses a pair of locking rods which are moved axially to engage stops in a casing around the closure by a single-action rotation of a cammed actuator which is mounted on the frame surrounding the glass.

  • Patent number: 4114933
Abstract: The specification describes a lock provided with first locking means, second locking means and rotatable operating means for operating the first and second locking means. The arrangement is such that when the operating means is rotated in one direction from a first position in which the first locking means is in a locking position and the second locking means is in an unlocking position, the first locking means is moved to the unlocking position without disturbing the second locking means. When the operating means is rotated in the opposite direction from the first position, the first locking means remains in the locking position while the second locking means is moved to the locking position.

  • Patent number: 4067212
Abstract: A two dead bolt door lock is disclosed wherein the bolts are transversely disposed and wherein the bolts are disposed one behind the other in the locked position so as to provide a secure locking mode. When door mounted, and in the locked position, a vertical bolt is disposed on the inside of the door adjacent the jamb and a horizontal bolt is mounted in the jamb. Attempts to jimmy the horizontal bolt in its line of least resistance are frustrated by the presence of the vertically locked bolt acting against the jimmying force. The locks are both operated by a single key actuated cylinder and/or hand knob through a common connection rod with coordinated cam actions. In another embodiment, keys may be employed on both the inside and the outside of the door.

  • Patent number: 4037440
Abstract: A locking device mountable within a door in a door frame, comprises a casing including a pair of side plates, a toothed-wheel rotatably disposed between the side plates, and a plurality of locking bars coupled to the toothed-wheel and projectable thereby into locking engagement with the door frame. The toothed-wheel is formed with a cam surface for each locking bar, each locking bar carrying at its inner end a cam follower movable along the respective cam surface of the toothed-wheel. The side plates are formed with guiding slots for each locking bar guiding the movement thereof such that the rotation of the toothed-wheel in one direction projects the outer ends of the locking bars from the door into locking engagement with the door frame, and the rotation of the toothed-wheel in the opposite direction withdraws the locking bars into the door.
