Vehicle Door Latches Patents (Class 292/DIG23)
  • Patent number: 5472065
Abstract: A linear drive, particularly useful for locking or unlocking a door lock mechanism or the like permits manual operation by providing an output shaft that can move freely regardless whether the output shaft is in extended or retracted positions without back driving the motor. The output shaft is coaxially slideably situated over a screw which moves a nut that is theadingly engaged therewith and moves inside the output shaft along the axial direction of the screw. The output shaft is not threadingly engaged with the screw. The output shaft thus is freely movable relative to the screw, which results in essentially zero back drive of the screw and the motor. To provide for manual operation, the nut is automatically moved back to its neutral position every tie the output shaft is extended or retracted by a torsion spring or the like which can store energy therein. Whenever the motor is operated to drive the screw, the spring gear is also rotated, which causes the spring to store energy therein.

Abstract: A motor-vehicle door latch has a drive having a housing formed with an inner surface formed relative to a main axis traversing the housing with two angularly offset and radially inwardly open notches, a shaft rotatable in the housing about the main axis and having a radially outwardly projecting bump, and a wheel rotatable in the housing about the main axis, surrounding the shaft in the housing, and connected to the input member of the latch to rotate jointly with the input member between locked and unlocked positions of the latch. A lobe on the wheel projects radially outward into one of the notches. A radially outwardly deflectable abutment on the wheel is angularly engageable with the bump of the shaft and is urged by a spring radially inward on the wheel so that the bump can angularly engage the abutment and angularly displace the wheel.

  • Patent number: 5453671
Abstract: The invention relates to an electromotive actuator with a housing for a central door locking system of a motor vehicle having a first slide adjustable by a first electric motor between two end positions. The first slide can be connected with a door lock of the motor vehicle independently of the end position and is preferably decoupled from the electric motor in the end positions, so that the first slide is manually adjustable between its end positions. Such an electromotive actuator is provided with a theft protection capability in the sense that, after a windshield of a motor vehicle is smashed in, an unlocking of the door by the inside locking handle is no more possible because the parts of the actuator are not actuated by operating the inside locking handle. Finally, an unlocking operation initiated from the outside is possible when the theft protection is put into operation.

  • Patent number: 5427421
Abstract: A door lock device has a one-motion door opening mechanism. The door lock device comprises a latch mechanism consisting of a latch and a ratchet preventing the latch from reverse-rotating, an outer opening lever, a lock lever, a link operatively placed between the outer opening lever and the lock lever, an inner opening lever connected to the inside opening handle of the vehicular door. The link and the inside opening handle are so connected that the link moves apart from the pressing piece of the ratchet when the inside opening handle excessively rotates. Consequently, when it is at the locked condition and the inside opening handle is operated to open the door, the ratchet is disengaged from the latch and the link is pressed by the pressing piece displacing it to the unlocked position. • Patent number: 4763936
Abstract: An automobile door latch has a fork-type latch bolt, a detent lever which automatically retains the bolt in a closed-latched position in a manual-closed operating mode of the latch when the door is manually swung to the closed position, a manually actuated release lever which moves the detent lever to a releasing position releasing the bolt in a manual-open operating mode of the latch, and a power operating means which power rotates the bolt from an ajar-latched position to the closed-latched position in a power-closed operating mode of the latch and which moves the detent lever to the releasing position in a power-open operating mode of the latch. The door latch further includes an electrical control which automatically actuates the latch in the power-closed operating mode when the latch bolt achieves the ajar-latched position and which permits random sequencing of the manual and the power operating modes of the latch.

  • Patent number: 4763934
Abstract: Door lock and lock assemblies are useful, for example, in vehicle cabs. Latch and lock assemblies of known structures which can be unlocked from inside the cab while remaining locked from outside the cab require complex and bulky linkage assemblies. The subject door latch and lock assembly includes pivotal outer and inner actuator. The pivotal movement of the outer actuator simultaneously pivots the inner actuator to open a catch mechanism. Pivot movement of the inner actuator can be independent of the outer actuator. A locking lever can be pivoted to a locked position to prevent pivotal movement of the outer actuator. Pivotal movement of the inner actuator is not prevented by the locking lever. Thus, the disclosed door latch and lock assembly can be opened from inside the cab while remaining locked from outside the cab without requiring complex and bulky linkage assemblies.

Abstract: A clutch is adapted to be interposed between an electric motor (1) and a gear train (5) for driving a screw on which is mounted a sleeve controlling a locking element. The clutch comprises weights (11) disposed in a hollow member (3) in a position radially of an output shaft (2) of the motor (1), said weights being biased by return springs (21) toward a de-clutched position of rest and being capable of being driven by the rotation of the shaft (2) to a clutching position in which they are engaged with the member (3). The weights (11) are mounted in a support constituted by a hub (12) defining a cavity (15) for the weights and by a cover (16) which closes said cavity (15) and is fixed to the hub (12). The cover (16) is adapted to permit the radial displacement of the weights (11) toward the member (3) under the effect of centrifugal force. This structure facilitates the placing in position of the weights and their assembly by an automatic machine.

Abstract: The central locking installation for motor vehicle door locks blocks the locking element of the door lock by means of an additional, separately controllable blocking member. The locking element and the blocking member are driven by separate electrical drives which are connected into mutually parallel-connected current paths of one common drive current circuit. The drive direction of the two drives is controlled by common switches of a pole-changing circuit which reverses the current direction. Into the current path of the drives of the blocking member there is connected a control switch by way of which these drives can be switched on selectively. In the unlocking direction and the unblocking or releasing direction a time control system controllable by means of the door key in the unlocking of the door switches on the drives of the locking element and of the blocking member simultaneously. In the locking of the door lock only the drive of the locking element is switched on in its locking direction.

Abstract: A central vehicle door-lock system has several door latches each including a detent movable between a lock position securing the door closed and an unlock position allowing the door to be opened by means of a mechanism inside the door latch. Each of these latches is associated with a servoactuator having an actuator that is engaged via this mechanism with the respective detent and that is in turn moved by an operator. This operator, therefore, can move the actuator and with it the latch detent between lock and unlock positions, and the operator itself is movable by a servomotor into an antitheft position. A lock pawl on the actuator can, in the lock position of the actuator and in the antitheft position of the operator, move from a freeing position permitting displacement of the actuator from the lock to the unlock position into a blocking position preventing such displacement to lock up the entire latch.
