  • Patent number: 6135513
Abstract: An operational apparatus for a vehicle slide door comprises an outer open lever connected to an outside handle of the door, an inside handle of the door rotatable in door-opening and door-closing directions, an inner open lever connected to the inside handle, a child-proof mechanism, a powered closing unit for closing the door from a half-latched position to the full-latched position, a fail-safe lever for interrupting an operation of the powered closing unit, a sub inner lever connected to the inside handle. The inner open lever transmits a door-closing rotation of the inside handle to the fail-safe lever without through the child-proof mechanism. The sub inner lever transmits a door-opening rotation of the inside handle to the fail-safe lever without through the child-proof mechanism. The fail-safe lever is moved in the same direction by either of the door-opening and the door-closing rotations of the inside handle.

  • Patent number: 6126211
Abstract: Presented is a slidable deadbolt security device designed for installation with a sliding glass door or sliding glass window. The slidable deadbolt security device is fastened to the threshold in association with the leading edge of the fixed door portion of a slidable door assembly. A deadbolt is manipulable to engage or disengage the sliding door portion. The relationship of the slidable deadbolt and the sliding door frame is such that the deadbolt cannot be disengaged from the sliding door frame unless the sliding door is completely closed. In an aspect of the invention relating to sliding glass windows, the slidable deadbolt is slidably mounted on the windowsill adjacent the leading edge of the fixed window portion of the window assembly and spaced laterally from the fixed window frame to enable the slidable window portion to move therebetween.

  • Patent number: 6042161
Abstract: A flexible coupling is provided for a lock actuator and a latch assembly. The coupling is particularly useful for sliding glass doors and enables the actuator to be mounted to the door in an axially offset relationship with respect to the connecting member of the latch assembly. The coupling includes a male member that includes an outwardly protruding knuckle that is pivotally and frictionally received in the socket of a female member. The male member is connected to either the lock actuator or the latch assembly while the female connector is connected to the other of the lock actuator or the latch assembly. Rotation of the lock actuator results in rotation of both the male and female member thereby resulting in rotation of the connecting member of the latch assembly even though the actuator is disposed offset from the connecting member.

  • Patent number: 6000735
Abstract: A magnetically actuated safety lock device provides automatic locking capability to doors such as sliding glass patio doors and prevents unsupervised opening of the door by young children, thereby barring their access to dangerous environments. When the sliding door is closed, it is automatically locked. The lock device is installed in a position high upon the sliding door to prevent actuation by young children and requires no permanent modification to the door on which it is installed. The lock device consists of a locking assembly and a magnetic key. The locking assembly includes a magnetized latch assembly and a mounting bracket. The latch is held in the locked position by gravity and is only rotated into the unlocked position through the application of hand pressure or the repulsive force of the magnetic key. The doors can be unlocked from both inside and outside the door. Upon removal of either the magnetic force or hand pressure, the latch rotates back into the locked position.

The components of the coupling device are selectively matable and separable for respectively connecting and disconnecting the straps. The straps have a combined length such that, when the windows are in the closed condition and the coupling components are mated, the straps are tautly extended between the windows.

  • Patent number: 5595409
Abstract: The present invention provides an assembly for latching a moving panel relative to a frame in which the moving panel slides or glides. A keeper is secured to the frame, and a latch is secured to the moving panel in such a manner that the keeper and latch are adjacent one another when the moving panel is moved to a closed position within the frame. Rotation of a key or handle on the moving panel causes the latch to extend and capture the keeper and pull the moving panel toward the frame as it latches. The latch cannot capture the keeper until a spike extending from the frame deflects a button on the moving panel. When the moving panel is latched, the spike provides resistance to vertical movement of the moving panel relative to the frame.

  • Patent number: 5582442
Abstract: A latch assembly and process for manufacturing such an assembly and process for painting an assembly with a pivoting member are disclosed. The latching assembly comprises a body, a latch moveable between open and closed positions, and a thumb turn mounted for pivotal movement in the body. The thumb turn includes a cylindrical boss mounted for rotation in the body about a central axis of rotation, and a lever arm extending radially outwardly from the central axis of rotation of the cylindrical boss to a free end exposed outside of the body. A plurality of resilient arms having free hook ends engage the cylindrical boss to hold the cylindrical boss in the body while allowing for rotational movement of the cylindrical boss with pivotal movement of the lever arm. The free hook ends are held in a separate position which prevents rotational movement during the painting step of the manufacturing process.

  • Patent number: 5561994
Abstract: A lock for a sliding door has at least one locking bolt adapted in use to be moved between an open position and a locking position by activation of an operating member which rotates a pinion which engages a pair of drive racks to cause movement of the locking bolt generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of the bolt and in a direction parallel to a leading edge of a door in which the lock is mounted. The locking bolt is adapted when moved to its locking position to move into locking engagement with a staple-like keep mounted on a frame for the door when the door is in a closed position. A key operated deadlock facility prevents activation of the operating member. Preferably, the lock is also fitted with a safety mechanism so that it cannot be damaged if the door to which it is fitted is closed when the lock is in a locking position, and it is also possible to provide both an automatic latching and a panic feature on the lock.

Abstract: A multipoint lock assembly is provided for securing a sliding door in a tightly closed and locked condition. The multipoint lock assembly comprises a plurality of latch cartridges mounted at vertically spaced positions along a free side edge of a sliding door, wherein the latch cartridges each include a keyhole-shaped latch port and are movable together for engaging headed latch pins mounted on an adjacent door jamb. A main actuator cartridge is mounted on the door for moving the latch cartridges to an unlatched position to permit door movement to an open position in response to rotation of a door handle. A trigger assembly retains the latch cartridges in the unlatched position until the door is closed, at which time the trigger assembly releases the latch cartridges for spring-loaded movement to a latched position engaging the latch pins. A security deadbolt is also provided on the main actuator cartridge and can be thrown when the door is closed for positively locking the door.

Abstract: A ventilation stop for limiting the length of movement of a slidable door or window sash. The ventilation stop is located in a fixed element of a window or door assembly, preferably in an interior glazing stop of a fixed sash adjacent to the slidable sash. The stop includes a recess in the glazing stop, a tab disposed in and protruding from the recess, and a hinge pin disposed in friction fit through a bore in the tab and extending into the glazing stop beyond the recess, preferably in both directions from the tab. The axes of the bore and the pin are parallel to the direction of movement of the slidable sash, permitting the tab to be turned into an interfering relationship with the slidable sash, thereby limiting the length of movement of the sash, or to be turned out of interference, thereby permitting unrestricted movement of the sash. Preferably the glazing stop is hollow, allowing for easy insertion of the pin into the tab from within the glazing stop during assembly of a window or door unit.
