Patent number: 5524944Abstract: A lockable latch mechanism for receiving the hasp of a padlock and locking a hinged door to a door jamb to prevent opening of the door when the door is closed and the latch is in engagement with the jamb. The latch includes a sliding latch mounted on the door including a latch plate and a latch bolt. A latch bolt defines a cam surface engagable with the jamb to cam the latch bolt away from the jamb as the door is closed. Biasing springs are utilized to bias the latch bolt outwardly with respect to the latch plate and to bias the latch plate and latch bolt together outwardly with respect to the door jamb. A detent prevents movement between the latch plate and the latch bolt when the latch is mounted on a door and latched behind a door jamb.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1994Date of Patent: June 11, 1996Assignee: DeBourgh Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Robert D. Patent number: 5518281Abstract: A locker handle assembly having a recessed mounting receptacle with a bolt mounted thereon for sliding reciprocal movement. The bolt includes a front bar, and a back bar which is connected at one end to one end of the front bar, and at its other end to a point midway between the ends of the front bar. A non-moveable door pull is connected to a sidewall of the mounting receptacle and provides a safe means for opening the locker door and prevents the ability of a combination padlock from being manipulated, while locked, so that the locker can be opened, but still allows access to the back of the padlock for use of a key thereon.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1993Date of Patent: May 21, 1996Inventor: Thomas I. Patent number: 5470115Abstract: A recessed three-point latching mechanism and method for a storage locker and a locker incorporating the same utilizes a dead bolt system employing a pair of rotary actuated lock rods for engaging the top and bottom of the locker door opening in conjunction with a center latch engaging the door jamb. A lever, which may include a finger grip, is utilized for simultaneously unlocking the lock rods and unlatching the center latch and is accessible within a recessed cup for safety and security. The latching mechanism and method may also include a cam to hold the latching mechanism in a door open position until the door is closed to prevent damage to the locker face by the otherwise extended lock rods. The latching mechanism and method is compatible with either padlocks or a built-in lock secured within the recessed cup.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1994Date of Patent: November 28, 1995Assignee: DeBourgh Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Robert D. Patent number: 5360246Abstract: A storage locker is shown having a frame supporting a hinged door. A latch plate is fixed to the inner frame for latching the door and enabling it to be locked. The latch plate includes a security finger which is notched, and which engages a rim of the door when the door is closed. The security finger serves to hold the door closed during conventional methods of unauthorized entry. The latch plate also includes a pair of stiffening legs which make it more difficult to bend, thus, making unauthorized entry more difficult. The latch plate also includes a portion for supporting a padlock tab. The portion supporting the padlock tab is yieldable such that force applied to the padlock tab will bend the support portion without allowing the more critical latch plate to bend.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1993Date of Patent: November 1, 1994Assignee: Republic Storage Systems Company, Inc.Inventors: Earl Leiter, Thomas A. Patent number: 5154497Abstract: A method and apparatus for securing items in a storage unit comprise providing a cabinet with a plurality of drawers. Each drawer can be individually sealed by a break lock pull-tight security seal. As a security seal for a particular drawer is twisted and broken, items can then be obtained from the drawer. If a seal has been broken, a visual indication is made that the drawer has either been opened or tampered with. The inventory can thus be quickly and easily checked on a recurring basis without requiring each individual drawer to be checked since only drawers with broken seals need to be checked. The cabinets can be used to store pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, industrial supplies and/or any other supply for which an inventory must be maintained.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1990Date of Patent: October 13, 1992Inventor: Jane H. Patent number: 5092143Abstract: An improved enclosure assembly of the type including an openable enclosure, a locking member movable relative to the enclosure for selectively locking or unlocking it, a keeper mechanism mounted on the enclosure for retaining the locking member in its locked position, and a manually operable lock for selectively locking the locking member in its locked position. An improved tamper-proof locking assembly is provided which greatly minimizes the danger of unwanted intrusion into the locked enclosure. A guard housing having a single opening is placed about the keeper mechanism. The single opening of the guard housing is made large enough for the insertion of a human hand therein when it is desired to unlock the manually operable lock, but is made too small for insertion of a cutting instrument that could cut apart either the locking member, the keeper mechanism, or the manually operable lock.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1991Date of Patent: March 3, 1992Inventor: Wayne A. Patent number: 4986578Abstract: A door latching arrangement is provided for an enclosure that stores energy at each position in a range of opening positions such that if the door is manipulated to permit opening, sufficient energy is available to permit the automatic latching of the door upon closing. The door latching arrangement includes a movable latch arm which in a specific arrangement is carried by the door. The latch arm is biased to engage a projection or hasp of the enclosure when the door is closed. A latch retaining member carried by the door is arranged to interact with the latch arm to prevent the engagement of the latch arm by the hasp. Movement of the latch arm to disengaged the hasp, coupled with the opening of the door to separate the hasp and the latch retaining member, results in the latch retaining member moving to a position to interact with and retain the latch arm.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1988Date of Patent: January 22, 1991Assignee: S&C Electric CompanyInventor: Walter J. Patent number: 4984833Abstract: A lock hook for a door of a computer cabinet is described. The lock hook is pivotable about a pivot axis into a closed and an open position. Commonly, locking devices project out of the main surface of the door of computer cabinets when the lock hooks thereof are in the open position. The present invention solves this problem by pivoting the lock hook completely into an opening in the main surface of the door.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1989Date of Patent: January 15, 1991Assignee: Knurr-Mechanik fur die Elektronik AktiengesellschaftInventor: Hans Knurr

Patent number: 4930325Abstract: A pivot lever bar closure in the fillet gap of sheet metal cabinet doors. This bar closure is provided with a cylinder lock that is installed into two identical rectangular apertures. The bar closure consists of a lock case and cylinder lock. The lock case has a pivot lever actuating device that is led through the door panel to the outside. This pivot lever drives one or more bar closures of flat strip material that extends parallel to the door edge of the fillet gap. The cylinder lock holds the pivot lever firm in its hinged-in position. The pivot lever closure comprises a base plate forming the receiving trough for the pivot lever which connects the closure with the door panel.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1988Date of Patent: June 5, 1990Inventor: Dieter Ramsauer

Patent number: 4614374Abstract: The latch housing is made from a sheet of metal cut and bent to form a back wall and top and bottom and side walls which extend forwardly therefrom. The side walls diverge from each other so that the forward edges of the side walls are spaced apart a distance greater than the width of the opening in the door. The side walls are movable toward one another between the top and bottom walls to enable insertion of the housing into the opening. When mounted, the side walls extend between the top and bottom walls with their bottom edges overlying the upper surface of the bottom wall to conceal from view the space between the side walls and the bottom wall.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1984Date of Patent: September 30, 1986Assignee: Lyon Metal Products, IncorporatedInventors: James W.
