  • Patent number: 6086123
Abstract: A sanitary animal waste material removal system has a scooper with a pair of arms pivotably connected at a pivot. Each of the arms has a scooped jaw extending perpendicularly from it and a handle portion. The arms are biased in a closed position by a biasing mechanism such as a spring located at the pivot point. A disposable bag having a pair of loops is fit over the jaws. One loop is slid over each jaw. The bag has a pouch with pleated ends, an opening, two sides, and a bottom. In use, the pet owner first slides a retainer bag over the scooped jaws. The flattened main body of the bag fits between the jaws and, thus, the jaws must be opened slightly as the loops are slid onto each jaw. Then, in order to pick up a deposit of feces from the ground, the owner opens the jaws by squeezing the handle portions of the arms together causing a pivoting of the arms about the pivot point and an opening of the jaws. As the jaws open, the resealable sealing mechanism opens. For example, in a device equipped with Velcro.

Abstract: A collector for excreta from domestic animals such as dogs, is formed by two rectangular frames, equal and facing each other, and joined by a rear concave-convex wall that forms an articulation for the collector in the form of pincers. The wall has a central opening that makes the articulation flexible. On the convex face of the wall are two ribs laterally aligned that aid in holding a transversal cylindrical tube closed at one end. The tube contains a continuous roll of bags, closed by a cap at one end. The tube further has an opening at another end in the axial direction. A central tab or jutting part, through which opening the free end of the bag passes, attaches to the central hole in a perforated transversal line which divides two consecutive bags, thereby making removal easier. To use, the bag is worn over a hand, and the hand is used to pick up an article. The glove portion provides complete freedom of movement for the fingers to handle the article with precision. The glove bag is everted over the article to contain it, and the open rear end is sealed with the sealing strip. The article is thus isolated in the glove bag without being contaminated by the hand, and without contaminating the hand. The cuff portion is large enough to hold a variety of articles.

  • Patent number: 5669645
Abstract: A handheld grabbing assembly includes a plastic bag supplying device and a grabbing device. The plastic bag supplying device includes a spindle, a spool mounted rotatably on the spindle, and a reel of continuous plastic bags wound around the spool for reeling out a leading plastic bag to be torn off from the reel. The grabbing device includes first and second clutching arm members, each of which has a clutching blade end section and a handgrip end section. Each of the handgrip end sections includes an elongated frame body that extends parallel to the clutching blade end section, two lug members that respectively and transversely extend from two lateral sides of the elongated frame body and which respectively define a first axle hole to be journalled by each end of the spindle, and an internal boss on an inner surface of a respective one of the lug members around the first axle hole. A biasing member is disposed on the internal boss member to bias the clutching blade end sections toward each other.

  • Patent number: 5624144
Abstract: A scoop having a screw blade housed within a cylindrical housing. The scoop is intended to remove semisold materials from the ground. A handle extending above the housing rotates the blade. Preferably, the scoop incorporates a drive for translating linear motion to rotary motion, so that the user need only press the handle downwardly when the device is placed over material to be lifted and removed. A closure closes the bottom of the housing to retain material, and is swung out of the way to expose the screw blade for deployment. Material is removed by reversing direction of the screw blade. The preferred application is enabling ready removal of excrement left by animals. When optionally combined with a retractable leash, a pet owner can conveniently observe municipal ordinances requiring animal wastes to be removed by owners walking their pets while requiring but one hand both to hold the novel scoop and to control the animal's leash.

  • Patent number: 5620220
Abstract: A sanitary waste collector includes two substantially planar braces, each having an interior and exterior face, each having a grippable opening, and each pivotally attached to a hinge and an assembly for continuously urging the interior faces of the braces towards each other, and an assembly for selectably manually actuatably urging the braces away from each other, in which a selectably imparted force of the manually actuable is sufficient to overcome the force of the assembly urging the braces towards each other. Two arms, each individually extending integrally outwardly from the braces' edges thereof opposite the hinge, provide a platform for a deformable enclosure secured between the arms. The interiorly urging assembly is normally closed when the selectable manual actuation assembly is not actuated. Upon gripping closure of the selectable manual actuation assembly, the enclosure is opened, and can be placed over and around pet waste or other materials to be disposed of.

  • Patent number: 5584519
Abstract: The portable collection device has a longitudinal axis and includes a shovel made from board material having a tubular handle portion surrounding the longitudinal axis and a scoop portion having a bottom wall and a pair of laterally outwardly extending side walls hingedly connected to opposite edges of the bottom wall to form a scoop-like structure for collecting animal litter. The scoop portion is attached on one end to the handle portion and at the other end has a leading edge for use in collecting the animal litter. A flexible collection bag houses the shovel. The bag has a tubular stem portion surrounding the longitudinal axis, a large pouch portion with a sealable entrance opening at one end of the stem portion and a hand strap portion at the other end of the stem portion. The shovel has the tubular handle portion located in the tubular stem portion of the bag and the scoop portion located in the pouch portion.

  • Patent number: 5580111
Abstract: A device and method for handling animal waste products. Preferably, the device is used to separate animal waste products from unsoiled pet litter. In one embodiment, the device includes a waste-transferring handle that has a leading edge with an integral grate, and a trailing end that receives a removable waste-receiving receptacle. The grate includes cross members having crested upper surfaces. The spaces between the cross members define openings which retain animal waste and allow unsoiled litter to pass between. The crested upper surfaces of the cross members allow unsoiled litter to pass through the grate easily and preferably without shaking of the device.

  • Patent number: 5568955
Abstract: A device for individual collection of pet excrements has a substantially elongated element having a first hollow portion formed to receive a user's palm and provided with a projection for receiving a user's thumb, and a second portion extending from the first portion and having an inlet opening for insertion of the user's arm, the second portion having a length which is at least equal to a length of the first portion, and a width which is at least equal to the width of the first portion, so that when a user by manipulations with the first portion and the projection collects the pet excrements, the second portion can be turned over the first portion and farther so that the element is turned inside out to produce a bag-like structure with excrements inside.

  • Patent number: 5564762
Abstract: An animal waste pick-up and disposal assembly includes a container having an upper, open end and a lower end. A plastic bag having a closed end and an open end, and of length greater than the length of the container, is inserted into the container to act as a liner for the interior surface of the container with a portion of the bag projecting outside of the container. The projecting portion of the bag is folded back over the outside of the container, so that the bag covers both the interior and exterior surface of the container, and also covers the hand of a user gripping the container. Waste is scooped into the bag over the open end of the container while the container and the person's hand are shielded against contamination by the bag which covers them. The open end of the bag is then folded back out and inserted into the container, which is used to carry the bag and contents to a suitable disposal site.

  • Patent number: 5564763
Abstract: A device for picking up and removing dog droppings and the like including a pair of clamshell shaped members each having a concaved inner surface which face one another and held for pivotal movement near spaced first side margins of the clamshell shaped members by a biased hinge connection therebetween. Elongated spaced arcuate fingers are formed into each clamshell shape member which extend from a second side margin to a central portion of each clamshell shaped member. Two opposing spaced handles each extend from the first side margin, when held and squeezed together, separate the second side margins defined by the spaced distal ends of the fingers. A flexible disposable bag of thin plastic is operably positionable between the opened clamshell spaced members, the bottom of the bag furthest into the space therebetween, an open end portion of the bag turned inside out and positioned against an exterior convex surface of each clamshell shaped member, including the fingers.
