  • Patent number: 6374568
Abstract: An assembly including rolled roofing material that can be easily installed on a roof and a special handling tool. The tool reduces the strain of carrying the roofing material and of raising to the roof. The roofing material, fabricated as an elongated strip which defines a plurality of narrow slots extending perpendicularly from one longitudinal edge thereof, can be formed into a roll or rolled onto a hollow cylinder. The handling tool includes a “U”-shaped tube in which one of its branches is inserted through the hollow core formed by the rolled roofing material itself or, alternately, the hollow cylinder upon which material has been wound. The branch of the “U”-shaped tube so inserted can then be used as an attachment point for a rope, useful in raising the roll of roofing material to the roof. Or one can use the distal end of the “U”-shaped tube as a handle to facilitate carrying the rolled roofing material and placing it on the roof.

  • Patent number: 5174174
Abstract: The present invention is a tool for installing a restrictor plate 14 in a shock strut cylinder 10. It includes a first tool member 12 having an elongated handle 24 with proximal 22 and distal 38 ends and a longitudinal axis. The distal end 38 includes a controllable attachment 25 for providing an axially-centered locking grasp on a restrictor plate 14. A first control 36 which is operable by a user from the proximal end 22 controls the attachment 25. The distal end 38 includes a pivoting head 40 for movement of the restrictor plate 14 between a first position which is in axial alignment with the handle 24 and a second position which is transverse to the axis of the handle 24. A second control 20 is operable by a user from the proximal end 22 to control the position of the pivot head 40. A second tool member 28 has a hollow elongated handle 32 with proximal 114 and distal 116 ends and is sized to axially telescope over the elongated handle 24 of the first tool member 12.

  • Patent number: 5150938
Abstract: A detachable grip supplements the handle pair of a single plastic bag, or the handle pairs of a number of bags. The grip has a bar which comfortably fits in the palm of the hand. One end of a cord (which cord could be wire, line, belt or cable) is permanently attached to one end of the bar. The other end of the cord has apparatus for removably latching itself to the other end of the bar, temporarily forming a closed loop of fixed length. The distance along the handle between the two ends is at least as wide as an adult human's hand. The latching apparatus preferably is a stop, such as a ball or a cylinder, on the free end of the cord, which ball or cylinder fits into a socket on the free end of the bar. However, other latches or clasps are disclosed for use as substitutes for the stop and socket latch.

  • Patent number: 5131800
Abstract: A manually operable apparatus is provided for transferring disks with center holes such as semiconductor wafers from one cassette of an ordinary kind to another having a different pitch. The apparatus has an elongated rod on which an array of disk-shaped pieces each capable of supporting a wafer from its center hole is slidably mounted. These pieces are so connected that the separation between each of mutually adjacent pairs can vary but not to exceed a predetermined maximum distance. The piece at one end of the array is affixed to the rod and the one at the other end is attached to a tubular member which can be moved manually in the direction of the rod.

  • Patent number: 5114058
Abstract: Fish stringers, particularly a resilient longitudinally extending stringer arm. An upper hand-gripping end of the stringer arm may be adjustably secured to the fisherman's belt or waders. The lower, free end of the stringer arm spears hooked fish. A pivoted carrying arm is secured to the upper end of the stringer arm and extends outwardly so as to define an alternate hand-gripping portion and inwardly to encircle and releasably engage the free end of the stringer arm. The stringer arm is characterized by its ability to adjustably support a load of fish in the desired juxtaposition with the fisherman's thigh and upon release may be carried in a horizontal mode by a hand-gripping portion defined in the pivoted carrying arm.

  • Patent number: 5072980
Abstract: A hand tool is disclosed for rapidly recovering an extensible and retractable antipersonnel barrier of helical barbed tape. The hand tool includes first and second elongated parallel gripping arms joined at one end by a base section. Each of the elongated gripping arms includes an L-shaped rigid safety barrier defined by a forward guard rail and an elongated lateral guard rail. The distal end of each of the elongated lateral guard rails is disposed intermediate the base section such that the lateral guard rails are parallel to the elongated gripping arms. The distal end of each of the forward guard rails are disposed at the distal end of each of the elongated gripping arms respectively, thereby defining a pair of generally rectangular zones of safety. The hand tool further includes a telescoping engaging arm which comprises a fixed outer tube and a removable elongated inner tube. The inner tube is connected to the fixed outer tube by a bayonet-type locking mechanism.

Abstract: The carrying device comprises a folded material, such as cardboard, which surrounds a pair of weights in a frame. The frame comprises an upwardly extending center panel and two side panels. The side panels are disposed parallel to the center panel and are separated from the center panel by a distance which is slightly larger than the thickness of the weights. The side panels are connected to the center panel by bottom panels. A wooden rod is placed through the center holes of the athletic weights, and anchored into the side of the cardboard frame. A handle located in the frame allows the weights to be easily carried.

  • Patent number: 4958873
Abstract: A multi-disk clamp end effector carries around a tubular member a plurality of disks with a center hole like wafers and releases them sequentially one at a time. Each disk is attached to the tubular member by means of a holder which not only supports the disk but also is pressed to the tubular member by an elastic ring. As the tubular member is gradually retracted and its front end passes the position of each holder, the contracting force of the spring disengages the holder from the disk to which it is attached and the corresponding disk is released.

  • Patent number: 4930829
Abstract: The invention relates to a carrier for empty beverage cans, particularly those that are returnable and recyclable. The carrier includes an elongated planar body with a plurality of spaced apart hooks where each hook has an elongated generally trapezoidal central section having converging side edges; a pair of elongated generally rectangular flap members; each attached to a respective side edge of the central section along a fold line; and a slit extending along each of the fold lines over a short distance from the inner end edge of the adjacent flap members. Each hook enters the opening of an empty can to engage the underside of the top plate of the can to suspend the can therefrom. By using the carrier, people returning cans have a convenient way of carrying the cans and the people receiving the cans are able to easily count the cans.
