Patent number: 4227731Abstract: A lifting tool suitable for lifting and maneuvering utility access covers, especially manhole covers, including a handle and an arcuate receiving means connected to the handle for receiving and securely retaining the utility access cover during lifting and maneuvering thereof. The cover abuts against an abutment means when it is received in the receiving portion, and a hook is pivotally connected to the abutment means for engaging the tool with the cover. When the cover is engaged with the tool, it cannot accidentally become disengaged and injure the operator, and the provision of a support plate on the bottom of the tool facilitates complete control over the movement of the tool when the cover is engaged therewith.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1979Date of Patent: October 14, 1980Inventor: Alfred B. Patent number: 4221416Abstract: An apparatus for lifting logs from the ground to an elevated position in order to allow for cutting of the logs. The log lifter comprises a lever arm having one end thereof bent downwardly to form a leg, the leg having on the end thereof a detachable support tube which serves as a fulcrum about which the lever arm may pivot. The log lifting apparatus includes a first claw which is attached at the bend between the lever arm and the leg. The log lifting apparatus further includes a log gripping arm which is pivotably mounted with respect to the lever arm and which terminates in a second claw. To lift a log that is lying on the ground, the lever arm is held in the upright position and the log gripping arm is pivoted in the withdrawn position so as to be adjacent to the lever arm. The first claw is slipped under the log and the log gripping arm is then pivoted to provide for engagement of the log with the second claw. The lever arm is then pivoted, preferably by manual means, about the support tube.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1978Date of Patent: September 9, 1980Assignee: C & D Distributors, Inc.Inventors: Carl F. Patent number: 4013313Abstract: Disclosed are turning tools for elongated agricultural irrigation pipes which lie along the earth's surface and which include longitudinally aligned gated ports along each pipe segment for radial water emergence therefrom. The pipe turning tool, which ensures that the gated watering ports can be positioned the appropriate distance above the ground, generally comprises: an arcuate shoulder for abutment against the pipe outer side, an elongate handle rigidly attached to the shoulder and extending rearwardly therefrom and away from the pipe, and a fixed positioned stationary detent extending downwardly from a rigidly secured header and which detent is engageable with a radial discontinuity on the pipe thereby effecting turning about the pipe central-axis. Alternate tool embodiments are disclosed appropriate for use with latch-recess type radial pipe protuberances and depending upon the latch-recess spatial relationship to the aligned gated ports.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1976Date of Patent: March 22, 1977Inventor: John H.
