The cover member has first and second ends, upper and lower surfaces extending between the first and second ends, and a pair of opposite sidewalls that downwardly extend from the lower surface of the cover member.

  • Patent number: 6017072
Abstract: A handguard comprises a key holder component and a purse component fastened to, and separable from, each other. Each component fits in a user's hand, and when used while carrying a plastic shopping bag, protects the hand from irritation etc. caused by heavily laden bags. Key holder component has a back piece and front piece stitched together to form a key compartment between them, the key compartment being open at its top edge, but closed by a flap on the back piece. Purse component has two members stitched together to form a purse compartment, which is open at the top and closed by fasteners inside the purse compartment. Each component has fasteners on their outer surfaces which fasten the key holder component to the purse component. The preferred fasteners are hook and loop fasteners. Key holder compartment has a key ring retained inside by a strap that slides through an opening at the key compartment bottom. A snap hook or D-ring is secured towards the other end of the strap by a fastener.

  • Patent number: 5884955
Abstract: A handle grip and handle grip assembly for shopping baskets. A pair of identical handle grips are fabricated of molded plastic, each comprising a unitary body component and cover component connected by a hinge component. A handle element is seated in each body component and the corresponding cover component closes over the handle element and is locked to the body component. The cover components of the grips engage each other when the basket is carried and the weight of the basket increases the engagement force.

  • Patent number: 5865494
Abstract: A hand grip for attachment to an elongated cord-like element comprises a unitary body provided with a first aperture adjacent a first end of the body, a second aperture adjacent a second end of the body, a first slit extending from the first end to the first aperture, and a second slit extending from the second end to the second aperture. The apertures and the slits are located with respect to one another such that a first pair of transverse tabs are provided between the first aperture and the first end, that a second pair of transverse tabs are provided between the second aperture and the second end, and that the tabs of each pair of transverse tabs are separated by one of the slits. The grip body is formed of a material having sufficient elasticity such that the body can be longitudinally bent into a longitudinal channel without exceeding the elastic limit of the material.

Abstract: A disposable bag-handle grip is die cut from a pliable sheet of recyclable cardboard with two tab cuts along lines parallel to one end of the sheet and two arcuate cuts near the other end of the sheet to receive the tabs after the sheet has been inserted through openings cut in bags to serve as handles and folded along scored lines to place the one end over the other in position for the tabs to be pushed through the arcuate cuts. The tabs may have an optional cut at an acute angle that will catch on the arcuate cut to lock the tabs in place.

  • Patent number: 5738401
Abstract: A detachable bag-carrying handgrip device for hand carrying a shopping bag by its handles which due to the wide distribution of the carried weight over the fingers of the carrying hand is more comfortable to use than previous such devices. The hand grip comprises a flexible outer casing with two flexible edges for insertion of the carrying straps of the grocery bag to be carried. Upon insertion of the carrying straps, the carrying straps settle into a rigid channel which is open at the top and which provides the rigidity for a handgrip which is to be used to carry heavy shopping bags or packages for long distances. Due to this construction of the hand-grip, it remains with the straps of the carried bag even when the bag is set down.

  • Patent number: 5722117
Abstract: The invention relates to multi-use thin-walled tubular devices having a longitudinal slit with non-cutting overlapping edges and corners curved in a manner to provide scissor-like entry-ways at either open end and method of using such devices. The device is rigid lengthwise yet flexible in circumference and has renitent qualities such that the overlapping edges are spring-like. All surfaces and edges are smooth so that the devices are user-friendly and comfortable when used as handle grips for holding and carrying built-in handles of certain carrying objects, attachable handles for carrying items without built-in handles, hand-held exercisers, physical hand rehabilitation devices, hand-manipulated fasteners, and hand-manipulated separators. The dimensions of the device, the material used, and the method of construction may be adapted for the specific application.

Abstract: The improved handle is useable to facilitate carrying a bag having one or more flexible top straps. The handle includes a shell of relatively inflexible durable material, such as wood, metal or plastic. The shell is generally elongated and tubular with a central hollow bag strap-receiving space. The shell has open opposite ends and is divided into two mating shell parts extending the length of the shell. The two shell parts bear integral connector components adjacent their upper ends in the form of a hook and notch and the shell parts are hinged together adjacent their lower ends by an internal flexible resilient hinge of elastomeric material. The lower ends of the two parts have upturned terminal flanges over which the hinge is permanently secured.

  • Patent number: 5601327
Abstract: For hand comfort in carrying items with handles such as tote bags, plastic bag with handles formed as openings, paper shopping bag with attached round cord handles, wire baskets, coat hangers and the like, an inexpensive add-on handle-sheath is formed in one embodiment from flexible plastic in an elongated extrudable shape of suitable length having a transverse cross-sectional shape defining an upwardly-facing V-shaped entry channel with pair of guidewalls converging downwardly to a narrowed throat leading to a wider conduit region in a bottom portion of the add-on handle for holding a pair of bag handles. The add-on handle-sheath is easily fitted to a tote bag by directing the two bag handles downwardly in the entry channel, through the throat and into the conduit region, where they become effectively but removably captivated in the add-on handle-sheath.
