  • Patent number: 6003915
Abstract: An improved snow shovel with a telescoping handle comprised of a plurality of tubular elements, the outermost element having a grip at one end and the innermost element having a tip at the opposite end; a detaching blade, and a permanently mountable secondary tip and manually mounting removable basket. With the blade removed, the handle telescopes to a length greater than seven feet thus converting into a singular rod or snow probe used to feel or probe for buried victims in avalanche debris. When the handle is retracted, the blade is attached and the outermost telescoping element extends outwardly to a locked position. This increases leverage when digging to recover avalanche victims. With the blade detached and the handle extended, the secondary tip secures to the primary tip on the innermost element. This allows the snow basket to be mounted. The handle is then adjustable to any one of several positions for use as a spare ski pole when necessary.

  • Patent number: 5941586
Abstract: A device for retrieving and grasping objects from swimming pools and other inaccessible places having a pair of pivotally connected jaws (8, 9) with gripping tips (11, 12) connected to an elongated shaft (4) by a common connector (41). The jaws are preferably maintained in a biased-opened position by a compression spring (22) or spring clip (25) mounted between an extension (15) and the common connector. A pull cord (5) attached to the extension is used to close the jaws. The handle (6) attached to the end of the pull cord aids in pulling the cord and locking the cord to the shaft by an open loop (18) on the handle so as to maintain the jaws in a closed position while retrieving an object. Material having a high coefficient of friction, such as abrasive material like sandpaper or gripping material like rubber, may be attached to the jaw tips or the surfaces of the loop of the handle touching the elongated shaft.

  • Patent number: 5926891
Abstract: A multiple utility pool accessory, for attaching to a standard pool service pole and performing multiple pool maintenance duties. A handle, having a handle open end attaches onto the pool service pole. A main assembly cross bar attaches to the handle opposite the handle open end, and extends transverse to the handle. A pair of angle brackets each comprise a projecting leg having an outer surface, and a slotted leg. The slotted leg of each angle bracket is pivotably secured to the main assembly cross bar, so that the angle brackets are selectively pivotable between a narrow position wherein the outer surfaces face each other, and a wide position wherein the outer surfaces face away from each other. Variation between the wide position and narrow position allows a variety of attachments to be secured between the angle brackets, including a grinding wheel for scraping debris, chlorine tablet for concentrated application of chlorine, and a collector basket for removing loose debris.

  • Patent number: 5685586
Abstract: A tool to assist in the fastening of a seat belt buckle having an elongated, rigid body, a hook extension extending longitudinally from a front end of the body about 1 inch, and a curved hook which extends from the hook extension and curves towards the front end of the tool body. The tool body is preferably about 16 inches in length. The hook/hook extension may be mounted to the body with a hinge. A flashlight may be included within the tool body. An occupant in a vehicle uses the tool by engaging the hook through an opening in the male metal part of a seat belt buckle, and pulls the male part of the buckle and the belt across their body using the tool. With the male part of the buckle in front of the occupant, the occupant can easily engage the male part of the buckle into the female part of the buckle. The tool makes it easier for an occupant of a vehicle to retrieve the male part of a seat belt buckle, and therefore encourages the use of seat belts.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for grasping and lifting a lid having a handle and for lifting the vessel with which the lid is associated is disclosed. The apparatus is particularly directed to use with Dutch ovens and includes two elongated rods conjoined together, one rod being adjustably coupled with the other rod, and each rod having a handle for grasping formed at one end. One rod has a hook formed at the end thereof opposite the handle, and the other rod has stabilizing structure attached to the end thereof opposite the handle. As the user grasps the handles of the two rods in his hand and brings the handles together, the hook engaged to the handle of the lid raises the lid slightly until the lid contacts the stabilizing structure. The lid is thereby securely held between the hook and the stabilizing structure and is prevented from wobbling.

Abstract: A device for golfers to pick up golf balls and golf tees and to locate balls and tees is intended to reduce the need of a golfer to bend bown to the ground. The device includes an elongated tube having a golf ball holding cup at one end and a shallow tee holding socket and a tee retrieving device at the other end. A ball may be set in the cup to be secured against falling under its own weight and may be dislodged therefrom by movement of a coaxial rod to project into the cup. A tee lodged in the socket may be similarly dislodged by movement of the rod in the other direction. Lugs are provided in slots of the tube so that the user may move the rod appropriately. A two tined fork projects at one end of the device as a hook to retrieve a tee.

  • Patent number: 5102139
Abstract: A golfing accessory, preferably a built-in component of a putter, enables a ball to be lifted and re-emplaced while the golfer remains in an upright posture. In the preferred form, the device releases a ball position marker as the ball is being engaged and recovers the marker during re-emplacement of the ball. The apparatus has a handle shaft with a head at the lower end from which a pair of resilient tangs extend. The tangs have a spacing slightly smaller than the diameter of the ball and have convergent ends. The tangs are traveled down along opposite sides of the ball to a position below the center of the ball in order to grip the ball for lifting. A leaf spring initially clamps the marker to the head but is deflected by the ball as it is being engaged by the tangs and thereby releases the marker. A magnet in the head enables retrieval of the marker without bending over.

The tines are pivotable into an operative or inoperative position around the pivoting axis which is perpendicular to the axes of both the tube and the handle, and are spaced less than a golf ball diameter both from the axis of the tube and from each other.

  • Patent number: 5054829
Abstract: A device for placing wire over a series of open ceiling joists or other objects. The device comprises a rod for mounting on a pole. The rod has a support for a releasable disk. Wire is attached to the disk through a wire connecting hole. The disk is slid over the tip of the rod, through the disk sleeved hole and the disk is positioned on and supported by the base. The pole, with the rod mounted thereon and the disk with the wire mounted thereto, is raised above a ceiling joist or other elevated object. An upward thrust of the pole causes the disk to slide up and off the outward arm and over the object upon which the wire is to be installed over. The disk is of sufficient weight to cause it to descend to floor level, pulling the attached wire with it. Should the disk fail to descend due to wire snagging or some other reason, the pole is raised, positioning the trap over the suspended disk. The disk is trapped between the rods elongate arm and the inner arm and pulled down.
