Abstract: A retrieval tool provides enhanced functionality for retrieving an item of equipment from within a tubular string in a subterranean well. In a described embodiment, a retrieval tool includes an anchoring device. The anchoring device releasably secures the retrieval tool in the tubular string relative to the item of equipment to be retrieved. An actuator of the retrieval tool may then displace a latching mechanism relative to the anchoring device, thereby displacing the item of equipment relative to the tubular string. The latching device may latchingly engage the item of equipment in response to displacement of the latching mechanism by the actuator.
