Patent number: 6499190Abstract: Handle for accumulator battery comprising a central grip and two steps on each side of the grip. The outer end walls of the steps have rounded perimeters. Each outer step is provided with an oval opening intended to cooperate with a respective pivot which the battery cover has on its opposite sides. The oval shape of the pivot cooperates with the oval shape opening due to their orientation to prevent removal of the handle at either a folded down or upraised orientation. The span of the first steps of the handle covers the terminals of the battery, and each first step permits anchoring of the cover-pieces over the terminals.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2001Date of Patent: December 31, 2002Assignee: Sociedad Espanola del Acumulador Tudor, S.A.Inventor: Rafael Ruiz Rodriguez

Patent number: 6117587Abstract: A plurality of reinforcing ribs 8 and 9 are formed on an end wall of a battery container 2 of a battery B, and a pair of notches 11 are defined in the reinforcing rib 9 at an upper end. A battery suspending jig J has a pair of hooks 14 formed on a base plate 12 formed of a metal plate material. An attaching/detaching portion 14.sub.1 of the hook 14 is passed through an attaching/detaching bore 11.sub.1 of the notch 11 and then moved upwards, whereby an engage portion 14.sub.2 of the hook 14 is brought into engagement into an engage bore 11.sub.2 of the notch 11, and a receiving portion 14.sub.3 of the hook 14 is urged against a lower surface of the reinforcing rib 9. Thus, the battery B can be suspended and moved by connecting the battery suspending jig J to a chain block or a winch through a wire.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1997Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yasuo Kitami, Osamu Hasegawa, Tomoji Yoshizawa, Shigeru Suzuki

Patent number: 5637420Abstract: A self-latching handle for storage batteries includes a cam mechanism formed integrally with the ends of the battery handle, the cam mechanism cooperating with the battery housing as the battery handle is rotated downwardly from a vertical attachment position to a horizontal storage position to lift the ends of the battery handle to move pivot post portions of the battery handle into pivot apertures formed in the cover of the battery housing and to lock the battery handle to the battery housing while permitting the battery handle to be pivoted between the horizontal storage position and a vertical use position without becoming detached from the battery housing.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1995Date of Patent: June 10, 1997Assignee: Globe-Union Inc.Inventors: Henry A. Jones, Jr., Walter S. Maxel, David J. Novak, Stephen J. Kepler, Paul D. Korinek

Patent number: 5565283Abstract: In a battery handle two bands of webbed material are each arranged and threaded to independently engage a plurality of slots at opposing ends of a support housing in which a battery is enclosed. Each end includes six slots arranged in pairs of slots. The longitudinal/major axis of the two uppermost slots are at an angle to the horizontal and the major axis of the remaining four slob are substantially horizontal. In another aspect, the band of webbed material is threaded through two or more slots and the ends are joined together. Another technique loops the ends and expands the loop with a mechanical insert to lock it to the support housing. Many variations of the invention will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art which do not depart form the spirit and scope of the invention.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1995Date of Patent: October 15, 1996Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Subhas C. B. Chalasani, Roy Kuipers, Michael C. Steeves

Patent number: 5372899Abstract: A battery support housing, as part of a battery handle arrangement, is provided to enclose a substantial portion of a batteries' outer casing. The housing includes a pair of arrayed slots in each of two opposing sides of the housing. A band of webbed material is continuously threaded through all the slots with a sufficient slack in the band between the upper pairs of slots at the two opposing ends to allow a hand grip of the band. The ends of the band are secured to the housing by circularly threading the band through adjacent slots in each of opposing sides of the housing by at least two turns.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1994Date of Patent: December 13, 1994Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Roy Kuipers, Margaret M. Wilson
