Combined Steps Patents (Class 296/62)
  • Patent number: 4420182
Abstract: A collapsible camping trailer or camper having a horizontal top panel which serves as the ceiling of the camper in the opened position and as a flat storage bed when the camper is in the collapsed position. A rigid front panel is pivotally affixed at its upper end to one edge of the top panel and has tracking members at its lower end received by a pair of channels in the camper floor. The rigid front panel collapses from a vertical position when the trailer is opened to a horizontal collapsed position between the camper floor and the top panel which also collapses, when in the closed storage position. There are corner supports affixed to another edge of the top panel which also pivot between opened and closed positions to add structural stability to the camper when in the opened position. The top panel also can be provided with guide ways which can be used as a storage bed for two-wheeled vehicles when the camper is in the collapsed storage position.

  • Patent number: 4311320
Abstract: A running board assembly (10) for a vehicle (12) includes a running board plate (14) which has an upturned lip (18) on one edge thereof and a downturned lip (16) on the opposite edge. A splash guard (20) is mounted on the forward end of plate (14) and extends into the wheel well of the vehicle (12). A pair of universal mounting brackets (34, 44) are interchangeable between sides of the vehicle (12) to adapt a single size running board to fit the vehicle (12) which has either of two spacing distances between mounting points thereof. The running board plate (14) has longitudinal ridges (52) and elastomeric strips (62, 64) which provide both transverse and longitudinal traction.

  • Patent number: 4219104
Abstract: A wheelchair lift device including a platform located in the stepwell of a motorcoach for raising and lowering a wheelchair between a first position wherein the platform is in horizontal alignment with an elevated floor formed with the motorcoach and a second position wherein the platform is at ground level. The device includes foldable hinged sections that are positioned through a linkage to form steps for use by able-bodied persons and are extendible relative to the stepwell so as to align the hinged sections along a horizontal plane and thereby form the platform for supporting the wheelchair. In addition, a ramp is carried by one of the sections for movement from a stored position to an aligned position with the hinged sections for facilitating movement to and from the platform and to a restraining position for preventing the wheelchair from rolling off the platform.

  • Patent number: 4191388
Abstract: A step for coupling with a folding panel of a vehicle such as a tail gate of a truck or the like, includes a flat plate mounted against the inside surface of the folding panel, and a pair of support rods extending from the plate and through the panel to facilitate rapid removal of the plate from the panel. A pair of step supports are pivoted at opposing flanges to the plate, and support a step at the extremity thereof. The apparatus is dimensioned such that the step supports and the step may be rotated to a storage position across the plate and the panel when not in use.

  • Patent number: 4125284
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a self-propelled vehicle for transporting personnel and/or small cargoes including a seat for the driver and a cargo-carrying bed or floor located rearwardly of the seat. The floor includes a stationary, generally flat first platform and a movable section including a generally flat second platform and a rear wall member extending generally perpendicular to the second platform. The movable floor section is supported from the rear portion of the vehicle frame for selective pivotal movement between a raised or cargo-carrying position where the second platform is generally coplanar with the first platform and the rear wall member serves to confine cargo on the floor and a lowered or passenger-carrying position where the rear wall member can serve as a step for a passenger to step up and sit on the stationary platform and also serve as a foot rest for a rearward-facing passenger(s) sitting on the stationary platform.

  • Patent number: 4081091
Abstract: A lift device particularly suitable for lifting handicapped persons with or without wheelchairs, into a vehicle or building. The lift can be incorporated into the doorway of any given vehicle, or into any step structure within a building. The lift, in its stowed position, forms the normal steps. The platform is made of three hinged parallel sections which can be withdrawn and folded into two steps. A ramp normally hidden under the steps slides forward to allow easy access to the extended platform and a safety flap housed in the ramp flips upward to form an angle stop preventing the wheelchair from rolling backward during platform motion.

Abstract: A lift device particularly suitable for lifting handicapped persons with or without wheel chairs into a vehicle or building. The lift can be incorporated into the doorway of any given vehicle, or into any step structure within a building. The lift in its stowed position forms the normal steps. The various step elements are moveable and can cooperate to form a platform which can be lowered or raised to any position between the upper and lower level of the steps. A ramp normally hidden under the steps slides forward to allow easy access to the extended platform and a safety flap housed in the ramp flips upward to form an angle stop preventing the wheel chair from rolling backward during platform motion.

  • Patent number: 3961809
Abstract: A tailgate-mounted safety step assembly for pickup trucks and the like is provided which includes a linkage assembly coupled with a step for permitting shifting of the latter between a storage position and a lowered horizontal use position, in conjunction with a selectively engageable clutch lock operable to securely lock the step in the use position thereof when a person mounts the step, while allowing the lowered step to shift fore-and-aft when not in use in order to accommodate any road obstructions which may be encountered. By virtue of the unique clutch lock employed, the step assembly hereof may be utilized without fear of instability or unsteadiness notwithstanding the fact that the lowered step is movable when struck by an obstruction in order to preclude damage to the overall assembly.
