  • Patent number: 8424949
Abstract: A motorcycle having a fork assembly, left and right forks and an upper fairing is provided with left and right wind deflectors mounted adjacent to the outboard sides of the left and right forks. The wind deflectors project downwardly from a lower edge of the upper fairing. This strategic placement of the left and right wind deflectors prevents oncoming wind from passing immediately adjacent the outboard sides of the left and right forks and passing underneath the lower edge of the upper fairing and hitting the motorcycle rider especially in the chest and helmet areas.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a modular fairing configured to attach to a front portion of a motorcycle. The modular fairing 110, 300 includes a fairing frame member 120, 301, multiple coupling portions and at least one flexible fairing cover portion 150, 304. The fairing frame member may include multiple support members 121, 302 operable to be removably coupled to each other to form the fairing frame member. The multiple coupling portions extend from the fairing frame member and are configured to removably couple the frame member to the front portion of the motorcycle. The at least one flexible fairing cover portion includes a face portion and an attachment portion and is operable to be removably attached to and at least partially cover the fairing frame member. With this arrangement, the fairing frame member is detachable from the front portion of the motorcycle and operable to be folded or reconfigured 310 into a smaller configuration 312 for storing.

Abstract: A motorcycle wind deflector is removably secured to each crash bar of a motorcycle, extending upward from the crash bar. The wind deflector is secured to the crash bar in a manner that permits a leather or fabric splash guard to be simultaneously attached to the crash bar. The wind deflector extends upward a sufficient distance to deflect wind away from a rider's legs, while remaining sufficiently small to avoid creating an unattractive appearance for the motorcycle. The entire guard assembly may be removed and stowed in a saddle bag or other similar container when not in use.
