Publication number: 20100314900Abstract: Interfering double images that occur with curved windshields made from laminated glass during night driving in transmission and with head-up displays in reflection can be reduced by a wedge-shaped thermoplastic intermediate film. The wedge-angle profile required for compensation of double images is determined locally as a function of pane shape and installation situation. If the vehicle has a head-up display system, the wedge-angle progression can be determined in the HUD field such that double images are prevented there in reflection. However, outside the HUD field, a wedge-angle progression that compensates double images in transmission is selected. The specifically adapted wedge-angle profile enables better compensation of double images than is possible with a film with a constant wedge angle.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 18, 2008Publication date: December 16, 2010Applicant: Saint-Gobain Glass FranceInventors: Michael Labrot, Volkmar Offermann, Jean-Edouard De Salins

Patent number: 5885670Abstract: The Conventional Direct Glazing invention concerns a process for securing fixed panes of inorganic or organic glass to vehicles or parts thereof, in which flexible structural components and or sealing strips are prefitted by a weld strip between them and the pane by thermally activating the weld strip and thus producing a seaming effect on the pane, and pane modules thus produced. A pane module thus produced can subsequently be conventionally fitted to the coachwork on the assembly line using fitting strings without any further auxiliaries and working process. Owing to the material used for the flexible structural component and or sealing strip, the sealing quality corresponds to that of direct glazing. If the residual heat from the manufacture of the pane is used as the activation heat for the sealing strip, considerable economies are achieved in the manufacturing process for the pane module.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1997Date of Patent: March 23, 1999Assignee: Saar-Gummiwerk GmbHInventors: Paul Kientz, Andreas Schafer

Patent number: 4416930Abstract: This invention relates to applying a protective composition to the vicinity of a scored region of a glass sheet. The scored region is weakened and develops vents as a result of the scoring. Such vents are likely to develop breakage when the glass sheet is subjected to a thermal treatment associated with tempering. The application of the protective composition is made before the glass sheet is subjected to thermal processing by heating to above its strain point followed by rapid cooling below its strain point. The protective composition flows at a lower temperature than the glass sheet to which it is applied and is capable of healing the scored region during the thermal treatment to which the glass sheet is subjected after the application of said protective composition, thereby reducing the tendency of a vent to develop into glass breakage during said thermal treatment.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1982Date of Patent: November 22, 1983Assignee: PPG Industries, Inc.Inventor: Joseph B.
