  • Patent number: 7753434
Abstract: A window assembly for a vehicle having a body panel comprises, in combination, a glazing panel having a peripheral edge, a gasket secured to the glazing panel for sealing the peripheral edge to the body panel, at least one clip receiver secured to the glazing panel near the peripheral edge, and at least one fastener clip clamping the clip receiver to the body panel. The fastener clip is preferably U-shaped having a pair of resilient legs receiving the body panel and the clip receiver therebetween. The fastener clip is preferably secured to the clip receiver in a manner in which the fastener clip is movable between a shipping position and a securing position. A detent is preferably formed between the fastener clip and the clip receiver to resist removal of the fastener clip from the clip receiver.

  • Patent number: 7134705
Abstract: A windshield for a cycle, such as a motorcycle, bicycle or tricycle, having a dihedral leading surface to provide operator protection of wind, dust, bugs and debris. The windshield further comprises a pair of side panels extending from the dihedral leading surface to provide added stability to the cycle by providing a corrective steering force behind the axis of the cycle's fork to maintain the orientation of the fork into the wind. The windshield is securely attached to a cycle without the use of tools and with adequate strength to withstand the rigors of prolonged use. The attachment between the cycle and the windshield preferably includes a break-away feature to allow for one piece break-away of the windshield if subjected to rear impact from a cycle's rider or passenger during a crash.

  • Patent number: 6973754
Abstract: A windowpane is supported in a gasket by a support member so that a space for allowing the windowpane to shift therein is ensured between an end surface of the windowpane and a surface in a channel of the gasket facing the end surface, the gasket having the channel for receiving a peripheral edge of the windowpane, and the support member being removable from the gasket. The windowpane can be easily removed from a body panel by removing the support member and shifting the windowpane into the space.

  • Patent number: 6851737
Abstract: A windshield mounting structure includes A-pillars for mounting a windshield and cracking inducers provided at the A-pillars. The cracking inducers cause cracking in the windshield when an external force greater than a given force acts on the windshield from the vehicle outside. The cracking in the windshield allows the windshield to move in its entirety or in part toward a passenger compartment, absorbing impact in collision.

  • Patent number: 6777055
Abstract: This invention relates to an article comprising a transparent stack of sheets that may be applied, for example, to protect substrates such as glass or plastic windows, signage or displays. The stack of sheets has a vertically staggered side edge which allows for easy identification of the topmost sheet in the stack for removal therefrom from the stack of sheets. The topmost sheet can be peeled away after it is damaged to reveal an undamaged sheet below. The invention also relates to the protected substrates and a method of protecting substrates such as glass or plastic windows, signage and displays from vandalism or other surface damage by adhering the stack of sheets to the substrate to be protected and subsequently pulling a topmost sheet away from the stack after it becomes damaged.

  • Patent number: 6769730
Abstract: A windshield mounting structure includes A-pillars for mounting a windshield and frangible members provided at the A-pillars for supporting the windshield. When an object collides with the windshield from the vehicle outside, the frangible members deform or break, thereby causing the windshield to move in its entirety or in part inward into a passenger compartment, absorbing the impact in collision.

  • Patent number: 6696124
Abstract: An adhesive compound is described that is formed using a specific adhesive system. Due to the specific adhesive system the disconnecting of the adhesive compound is considerably eased, which, in particular, is of great benefit for the quick removal of plastic windows in case of emergency. The specific properties of the adhesive compound are based on its specific structure. In the middle of the compound between the substrates a specific parting layer is installed by which the two substrates can be disconnected easily. The parting layer preferably is an elastomer that has an extremely high tenacity and an elongation at rupture of 500% up to more than 1500% and that shows a good adherence to the assembly adhesive so that the removal can be performed by stretching the parting layer whereby it constricts and thereby peels off from the adhesive.

  • Patent number: 6209946
Abstract: The present invention provides a locater pin (1) for locating a first article such as a glass window panel (104) with respect to a second article such as a window frame (101) in a vehicle chassis (100). The pin (1) includes a head portion (2) for attachment to the glass panel (104) and an elongate stem portion (3) which extends from the head portion for receipt in an aperture (102,103) of the frame (101). In this way the pin is able properly locate the glass panel relative to the frame. The locater pin (1) further includes stress dissipation means (8) which is adapted to yield in the event that a stress load greater than a predetermined limit is transmitted through the pin between the glass panel (104) and the frame (101) to thereby prevent damage to the glass panel and/or the frame. The present invention also provides a window assembly incorporating such a locater pin (1), and a vehicle incorporating such a window assembly.
