Abstract: A child safety seat and base assembly wherein a base is arranged to be secured with respect to a motor vehicle and a seat is arranged to be removably secured is disclosed. The assembly includes: a rotary element rotatably mounted to the base; a seat latch on the rotary element that engages the child safety seat to releasably hold the child safety seat to the base and rotary element; a seat latch actuation assembly for opening or closing the seat latch wherein opening the seat latch releases the child safety seat; and an interlock mechanism actuated upon opening the seat latch that prevents rotation of the rotary element with respect to the base. The seat latch actuation assembly may include a slidably mounted handle, wherein in use, the base blocks access to the handle when the seat is in any position other than one or two side-loading position(s).

Abstract: A child safety seat for use in a vehicle, the safety seat having a base including a rotating mechanism and a seat shell for a child that is detachably connectable to the base. The base is anchorable in the vehicle using either conventional safety belts or LATCH anchoring provisions. The base is configured to allow a conventional three-point occupant restraint to secure the base to the vehicle and to prevent interaction between the seat shell and the restraint belt. The seat shell, when connected to the base, may be rotated about a generally upstanding axis into forward-facing, rearward-facing, or side-facing configurations. The base includes a moveable wedge that allows the base to optimally fit a variety of vehicle seat having different seat cushion inclinations. The seat shell also includes a height-adjustable backrest portion that allows the seat configuration to be optimized for the occupant, even as the occupant child grows.

The handle is restrained from pivoting relative to the carrier body when the locking component slides to an engaging position to engage the first locking portion with the handle and to engage the second locking portion with the carrier body. The handle is allowed to pivot relative to the carrier body when the locking component slides to a disengaging position to disengage the first locking portion from the handle and to disengage the second locking portion from the carrier body.

The safety seat has a body pivotally coupling with a handle. The handle may be turned relative to the body with an adjusting apparatus to switch to a carrying position and an anchored position. The lower side of the handle is extended to form an anchor hook that is turnable with the handle. When anchoring the safety seat, move the handle to the carrying position and place the body above the anchor docks. Then turn the handle to a usage position to couple the anchor hook with the coupling member and form a latched condition. The anchor position is also attained by switching the handle position. The invention provides direct and effective movements to achieve safety and to prevent inadvertent misuse.

Abstract: The convertible child safety seat of the present invention provides improved occupant protection in all vehicles, in both the front and rear seats, and especially in vehicles equipped with a passenger-side airbag. The child safety seat includes an air bag deflector, including a shock absorbent canopy to deflect an expanding air bag away from the infant and dampen the shock of airbag deployment and an impact. The child safety seat is convertible from a rearward facing position to a forward facing position. The cradle of the safety seat is removable utilizing a single-handed release mechanism to unlock the cradle from the frame. A handle with ergonomically designed grips aids removal of the cradle and allows carrying the cradle to put less strain on the carrier.

Abstract: An apparatus for the assisted portage of automobile types of infant-seats separate from an automobile includes a coiled holder with an extensible strap that is attached to one side of the infant-seat and a screw-eye that is attached to the other side. The extensible strap includes a first end with a fastening device such as a spring clip that is attached to the screw-eye when the strap is extended out of the coiled holder and over the shoulder of a user. The extensible strap is set to any desired length and is locked at that position by the coiled holder or it is automatically retracted therein depending upon the position of a locking toggle on the coiled holder. Preferably, the coiled holder is attached to one side of a handle of the infant-seat at a pivot axis for the handle and the screw-eye is attached to the opposite side. The pivot axis is disposed proximate the center of gravity and therefore optimally supports the infant-seat.

Abstract: An infant carrier is shown that can be used as a rearwardly facing infant car seat either by itself or attached to a separate base support, as a stroller seat, or as a carrier for an infant with an adjustable handle attached between longitudinally opposed ends of the carrier. The separate base support can be belted into a vehicle seat and left in place after the infant carrier is removed. The base support has a vertical portion that rests parallel to the back seat of the vehicle and includes a mirror mounted high enough on the back portion to be visible from the vehicle's rear view mirror when the infant carrier is mounted in the base support. The infant carrier has a handle that can be reciprocated in the axial direction of the carrier to actuate two separate attachment mechanisms for attaching the infant carrier to the base support or to a stroller.

Further, at least one rear wheel is pivotally coupled to the knee so that the rear wheel pivots relative to the seat when the knee rotates. A handle is coupled to the knee that is moveable between a first position wherein the handle is extended outwardly from the seat and a second position wherein the handle is retracted within the seat. A releasable locking mechanism is operably coupled to the handle and the knee that is operable to allow movement of the knee.

Abstract: The invention includes a pivot that is preferably attached to a child's seat and used to adjust the position of a canopy. The canopy pivot can be adjusted by pulling on the canopy frame to move the canopy to a desired position. No separate locking mechanisms are required for locking and unlocking the canopy at a plurality of different positions. The canopy pivot includes a flange member extending from the child's seat. The flange can have indents or nubs therein which mate with indents or nubs located on the canopy pivot member. The resiliency of the flange member at a specific location between the indents or nubs and the contact point of a retainer structure provides the necessary locking force for keeping the canopy pivot locked and for allowing it to unlock when a person pulls the canopy frame to pivot the canopy about the canopy pivot.

Abstract: A retractable handle apparatus is grasped and extended by an occupant of a marine craft to restrain motion of the occupant during sudden movement of the vessel. The apparatus includes a hand grip, a retracting mechanism, and a flexible member interconnecting the hand grip and retracting mechanism. The hand grip is pulled by the occupant to unwind the flexible member from the retracting mechanism. In the fully extended position, the apparatus provides resistance which the occupant uses to restrain against motion. When the hand grip is released, the retracting mechanism retrieves the flexible member.
