Patent number: 4887865Abstract: A seat and backrest combination device formed of contoured, rigid panels which are retained within a slipcover formed of a specially shaped stretchable cloth material. The slipcover is shaped in a "saddlebag" design, having a pair of pockets each of which has a front and rear face, the front faces of the two pockets being joined by a single strip extending for substantially the entire width of the slipcover. The slipcover thus provides a flexible member which allows for interplay between the seat panel rear edge and the back panel lower edge. By appropriate adjustment, the user is provided with a maximum degree of seating comfort, while the benefits of the orthopedic design are not sacrificed. For example, the back panel lower edge may be placed upon or behind the seat panel rear edge, and this is made possible by the stretchable fabric material used to construct the slipcover.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1988Date of Patent: December 19, 1989Inventor: Daniel Dawidzon

Patent number: 4886697Abstract: Materials have at least one layer comprising a mixture of thermoplastic and other fibers. This latter layer may be thermobonded together and then densified along at least a section of the eventual peripheral edge margin of an article to be formed from the material. Thermoplastic material-containing cover sheets may also be secured to the core and densified in this manner. The entire eventual peripheral edge margin of the article is typically densified. The material is cut within the densified region or slightly outside the densified region to provide a soft peripheral edge. Absorbent materials may be thermobonded within the layer and surrounded by a densified edge to fix them within the article. The composite materials are used in manufacturing infant car seat liners and other articles. In addition, sections of the material may be densified and provided with weakened areas, such as perforations, to enable users to selectively separate the articles along the perforations.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1988Date of Patent: December 12, 1989Assignee: Weyerhaeuser CompanyInventors: Lee E. Patent number: 4669779Abstract: An improved one-piece seat cover for an automotive passenger seat is disclosed. This improved one-piece seat cover is superior to seat covers presently available in that the portion thereof which covers the seat cushion is secured and maintained taut and wrinkle free without coupling to the springs of the seat cushion. The improvement resides in the provision of an additional panel which extends from the inside seam that joins the back portion of the cover to the seat portion of the cover. This panel extends from this inside seam of the cover between the seat back and seat cushion. Resilient hold down straps on the seat cover portion are then coupled to this panel under the base of the seat by tensioning means. Thus, the seat cover cushion is maintained secure and in place independent of the position of the seat cushion or the springs which support the seat cushion. In an alternative embodiment of this invention, the seat back portion of the cover is also modified.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1986Date of Patent: June 2, 1987Assignee: Sagaz Industries, Inc.Inventors: Jose Kaganas, Stewart Wallach
