  • Patent number: 11027438
Abstract: A positive positioning device comprises a plurality of stacked plates, a body, a spring-biased piston and a piston release device. The plurality of stacked plates have a central opening defined to receive a pivot shaft. The body houses the plurality of stacked plates and has an internal bore within which a cylinder is defined. The spring-biased piston is shaped to slide within the bore to apply a force to the stacked plates to resist rotation of a pivot shaft inserted through the central opening in the stacked plates. The piston release device is actuatable by a user to release the piston to decrease force applied to the stacked plates and allow free rotation of the pivot shaft.

  • Patent number: 7159940
Abstract: A swivel seat device is disclosed for bringing an individual adjacent to a table without moving or lifting the chair the individual is seated upon includes an upper supporting member eccentrically pivotally interconnected to a lower supporting member whereupon the individual sits on the upper supporting member that is eccentrically rotated so that the individual is brought adjacent and forward to the table without ever moving the chair. The lower supporting member is secured to the seat rest of the chair by flexible straps that wrap around both the chair seat rest and the lower supporting member for attachment beneath the chair seat rest. The upper supporting member can also include a semi-circular backrest upwardly extending from the periphery of the upper supporting member to provide further support for the individual seated thereon.

  • Patent number: 6106060
Abstract: A seating arrangement comprising two seats mounted to a single support pole, each seat capable of being rotated about the support pole and stowed independently of the other. The seating arrangement may also include a single seat slidably and rotatably mounted to a support pole. In one embodiment, the seat may changed from the stowed to the in-use position, or vice versa, by rotating the seat about the support pole, without requiring any upward or downward movement of the seats.

  • Patent number: 6053572
Abstract: A device for facilitating access to a car seat takes the form of a multi-laminate plastic, rotating seat device or disk having a plurality of fold lines defining a plurality of segments. The disk is placed upon the seating area of a car seat and substantially covers the entire seating area, preferably with overhang. The fold lines and segmented nature of the disk allow the disk to generally assume the contour of the car seat, when in use, and to be folded into a compact, portable size when not in use. The outer surfaces of the disk preferably have differing coefficients of friction to allow the disk to be reversible for use on different type car seat upholstery. Further, the disk is provided with an indicia to serve as a decorative cover for the car seat. The device could take the form of an oval and be provided with a crimped perimeter and hand grip cutouts.

  • Patent number: 6015188
Abstract: A swivel seat for a vehicle that provides a fixed seating platform surrounding a swivel seating platform and a smooth transition from the edge of the vehicle seat to the seating platform. In one version of the invention the swivel seat includes a rotatable inner portion and a fixed outer portion surrounding the inner portion. Preferably, the inner portion is elevated above the surrounding outer portion only enough to allow the inner portion to rotate freely. That is, the inner and outer portions are nearly flush with one another. In a second version, the seat includes a rotatable seating platform and a curved lip disposed adjacent to and extending away from the seating platform. The lip is configured to conform generally to the edge of a vehicle seat to provide a smooth transition from the edge of the vehicle seat to the seating platform. These two novel features may be combined in a swivel seat that includes the two piece seating platform and the lip.

  • Patent number: 5505518
Abstract: An inflatable device for assisting in rasing a seated person to a standing position, comprising a base member formed of a rigid material in a planar configuration, the base member having a leading edge and a trailing edge and side edges therebetween. An upper member is formed of a rigid material in a planar configuration, the upper member having a leading edge and a trailing edge and side edges therebetween. A hinge member couples the leading edge of the base member with the leading edge of the upper member to allow the upper member to pivot into an inoperative position essentially parallel with the base member and an operative orientation positioned thereabove being separated to the greatest extent at the trailing edge. An air impervious membrane couples the base member and the upper member around their peripheries in the areas remote from the hinge to thereby define an air chamber between the base member and upper member.

  • Patent number: 5427426
Abstract: A seat accessory is used to assist a user in entering and exiting a vehicle and includes a seat element mounted on a base element by a bearing, such as a lazy-susan bearing. The seat element includes a planar center section, a wall section and a leg support section. The seat is saddle shaped and tilts a user back toward a rear section of the wall which is sized and shaped to support that user in a comfortable traveling position. The accessory includes stops so the seat element will tend to remain in a transfer position or in a traveling position as desired without the user exerting force on the seat element. A second form of the seat accessory includes a front section that is nearly planar and has a back section that is higher than the back section of the first form of the seat accessory.
