  • Patent number: 4969622
Abstract: The vertically adjustable seat of a motor vehicle is mounted on two spaced-apart parallel rails each of which is reciprocable along a discrete track having an inverted C-shaped cross-sectional outline. Each rail has two spaced-apart parallel vertical sidewalls which are held apart and are connected to each other by several laminae and bolts serving to urge the edge faces of the laminae against the inner sides of the sidewalls. The marginal portions of the laminae have projections which are received in complementary sockets of the sidewalls. The sidewalls are extrusions of light metal, and the laminae are made of the same material. The rear end portion of one of the rails has a coupling for one end portion of a safety belt, and the configurations of the lower portions of the sidewalls and the adjacent portions of the track are such that the rails are confined to reciprocatory movement longitudinally of the respective tracks.

Upon the seat being tilted forward a pawl, which pivots about a common axis relative to the latch plate, is rotated against the bias of second spring means and engages the latch for rotation in unison therewith. This results in pawl engaging means on the cam member releasing the pawl causing the cam member pivoted from a first pawl engaging overcenter position to a second overcenter position against the bias of third spring means. Abstract: A lift chair for a disabled person has a seat comprising a stationary horizontal rear seat portion and a rotatable front seat portion to support a person in seated position. The rotatable front seat portion is rotated between a horizontal position and an elevated position by a drive means including an electrically driven motor. The rotatable seat portion may carry a seat pad which overlays the rear seat portion. The chair may have a fixed or movable back. The movable back may carry a back pad and may be operatively connected by frame members to the drive means to rotate upwardly when the front seat portion rotates upwardly and forwardly. An assembly may be provided for adjustably elevating the seat to accommodate persons of different heights. A sling is provided between the back and the front seat portion to close the space defined therebetween when they are rotated upwardly.

Abstract: A seat position control mechanism with a neutral position return mechanism for a front seat of a vehicle such as two-door sedan or hard top sedan incorporates a memory plate disposed outside the locking teeth of the locking plate of the seat slide adjusting device, a rockable lever journaled with the maneuverable shaft rockably secured to the locking lever, and connecting means connected from the rockable lever to the back rest of the front seat, in addition to the ordinary seat slide adjusting device. The rockable lever is always urged by the rotating force of the torsion spring in the seat locking direction so that the maneuverable shaft can be locked or unlocked regardless of the rockable lever. Thus, the entire mechanism is low bulky, compact and light with simple construction, and the front seat can be smoothly slid without interference with the rockable lever and other members.

Abstract: A seat position control mechanism includes a pair of track members, a detent member secured to one track member and having a plurality of longitudinally spaced recesses, and a second detent member secured to the other track member and having a single recess. A pawl which is manually controlled or controlled by tilting movement of the seat back is engageable with one of the spaced recesses and a single recess to lock the track members to each other. The seat can be adjusted by operating the manual control to release the pawl from a spaced recess while remaining in engagement with the single recess to unlock the track members. Tilting movement of the seat back or use of the manual control moves the pawl out of the single recess while remaining in engagement with the spaced recess. Return of the pawl into engagement with the single recess re-establishes the seat in the initial starting position and locks the track members to each other.
