Abstract: Methods and systems for passively supporting the upper body of a human user working at or near the ground are described herein. In one aspect, an upper body support system braces the torso of a human user against a surface of the work environment. This frees the hands and arms of the human user that would otherwise be occupied supporting the human torso. This enables a human user to comfortably use both hands to execute a particular work task. The upper body support system performs the support functionality described herein without the use of active devices. The upper body support system includes one or more passive upper body support assemblies each coupled to a harness assembly worn by the human user. Each passive upper body support assembly includes an extensible body support limb that extends toward the surface of the working environment and supports the human user compliantly.

  • Patent number: 9968195
Abstract: An adjustable seating solution that enables users to adjust several seating characteristics is disclosed. In a relatively low sitting position, the disclosed device provides some support if the user leans back, but predominately supports the user's weight and requires the user to engage core muscles to maintain good posture. The disclosed apparatus enables the user to adjust the seat upward to a leaning position. A platform extends forward under the user's feet to ensure that when the user leans against the seat, the apparatus remains stable. The apparatus enables the seat portion to be tilted, such that varying contours can be selected to engage the user's body in a desired way. At low heights, the user can tilt the seat portion forward to require the user to further engage core muscles while seated. At higher heights, the user can customize the contour of the seat that engages the user's body.

  • Patent number: 6820938
Abstract: An inflatable bladder supports the body of a person and relieves pressure on a portion of the body not engaging the bladder. The bladder has at least one rear chamber adapted to receive and maintain a first charge of fluid. At least one front chamber supports the legs of the person and has two support legs. The support legs are spaced apart from each other to form a channel between the support legs. The channel is sized and shaped for placement beneath a portion of the body to relieve pressure on the portion. The front chamber is adapted to receive and maintain a second charge of fluid separately from the rear chamber.

  • Patent number: 6783175
Abstract: Presented is a deployable and contractible cushion structure for detachable attachment about the waist of a user, formed from a unitary flat piece of preferably woven fabric that is folded and sewn to provide in its completed form three separate pockets. In a first or primary pocket is contained a relatively thick elastically resilient cushion pad formed from open or closed cell polyurethane or other suitable synthetic resinous material. A second pocket, substantially in the same plane as the primary pocket and opening in the direction of the open end of the primary pocket, is provided to contain the elastically resilient cushion pad when it and the primary pocket in which it is contained are rolled into a generally cylindrical roll to fit within the second pocket. A flap is provided to retain the rolled elastically resilient cushion pad in contracted form when not in use.

Abstract: A seat cushion cover (20) in combination with a sport seat cushion (22) includes a rectangular pocket (24) defined by a fabric upper panel (26) and a lower panel (28). The upper and lower panels (26, 28) are generally parallel to one another and are joined by side panels (30a,b) and an end panel (32). A fabric flap (34) extends from the upper panel (26). The flap (34) is adapted to retain the cushion (22) within the pocket (24) and provide for securing the cushion (22) on a stadium seat (54). The flap (34) foldably extends over an opening (33) of the pocket (24) and along a portion of lower panel (28). The flap (34) and the portion of the lower panel (28) are separated by a space for receiving the stadium seat bottom (56). The flap (34) is adjustably secured to the side panels (30a,b) with fasteners (42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52). A resilient band (36) provides tension to retain the cover (20) on the seat bottom (56) when it is in its raised position.

  • Patent number: 6578913
Abstract: A compact package comprised of a collapsible seat and climbing aid for advantageous use with a tree stand. The climbing aid comprises a generally H-shaped frame with two hand grips projecting orthogonally out of plane of the frame. One rectangular housing is attached to each vertical upright member of the frame and locking screws engage portions of a supporting cable to adjust the size of loop for encircling an element to be climbed. A collapsible seat has an L-shaped frame sized to fit within the vertical uprights of the climbing aid and a securing nut positions a pivotable frame of the collapsible seat in either a first stored position or a second erect position. The securing nut also fastens the climbing aid to the tree stand when the seat is in the stored position.
