Abstract: Seatbelt assemblies for motor vehicle occupant restraint providing enhanced frontal impact restraint characteristics. Embodiments illustrated a displacement of the intersection positioned between the lap and shoulder belt portions of an active three-point type belt system. In one set of embodiments particularly useful with dual retractor systems, adaptive positioning provisions allow the point of intersection to initially occur at or near the seatbelt latch plate and when a restraint load occurs components release to allow repositioning of the intersection. In other embodiments best implemented in single retractor systems, a turning loop is provided which displaces the webbing slot separating the lap and shoulder belt sections from the buckle latch plate.

Abstract: A tongue mechanism for use in an occupant restraint system also having a buckle mechanism and a webbing. The tongue mechanism includes a tongue member configured to selectively engage the buckle mechanism, a body formed over a portion of the tongue member, a slider, and a biasing member configured to laterally bias the slider. The body includes a body contact surface. The slider includes a slider contact surface and is configured to travel along a track between a first free position and a second locking position. When the slider is positioned in the first free position the tongue mechanism is free to slide along the length of the webbing, and when the slider is positioned in the second locking position a portion of the webbing is clamped between the slider contact surface and the body contact surface thereby preventing the tongue mechanism from sliding along the length of the webbing.

  • Patent number: 10605360
Abstract: An electronic transmission range select actuator (ETRSA) includes a primary drive system that operates during normal operation. The ETRSA includes an output shaft that is connected to the system via a lock pin during normal operation. The ETRSA also includes a release mechanism having a secondary motor that operates during a power loss or failure of the system. The secondary motor drives a gear that rotates freely relative to the output shaft. Rotation of the gear results in axial movement of the gear toward the lock pin, which in turn causes disengagement of the lock pin from the output shaft, allowing the output shaft to rotate due to the biasing load of a torsion spring such that the output shaft is returned to the P-range position. Thus, the mechanism is configured to return the output shaft to the P-range during a power loss or failure of the first motor.

In particular, some, or all of the loads, as required, are shared by an added support structure connected rigidly to a structural base, e.g., of a bus or other vehicle, via a base plate. As such the present teachings achieve compartmentalization around passengers in the event of a crash. Furthermore, unlike prior retrofit seat belt designs, the systems and methods of the present teachings uniquely facilitate a seamless transition for the different seat configurations and do not require complete replacement of the seats.

Abstract: A seat belt retractor for retracting a seat belt includes a spool for retracting the seat belt, a locking mechanism for locking rotation of said spool, and an end-lock preventing mechanism for preventing an end-lock of the seat belt. The end-lock preventing mechanism includes a first speed-reduction portion for largely reducing a seat belt retracting speed of the spool when the spool retracts a substantially full length of the seat belt, and a second speed-reduction portion for reducing the seat belt retracting speed less than that of the first speed-reduction portion so as to provide a delay for the locking mechanism to be brought to a non-lock position at least when retraction of the seat belt is finished.

Abstract: To effectively operate a pretensioner using a plurality of balls and an energy absorption mechanism, to simplify the structure of an exhaust passage in the pretensioner, and to facilitate the working process of the exhaust passage. A pretensioner 15 includes a plurality of balls 20 serving as force transmission members and a piston 21 in a pipe 17. A piston body 21a of the piston 21 includes a shaft portion 21c and a substantially hemispherical head portion 21d. The piston body 21a is provided with an exhaust hole 21e extending in the axial direction and exhaust grooves 21f communicating with the exhaust hole 21e that define an exhaust passage. The exhaust grooves 21f prevent the exhaust hole 21e from being closed even if the head portion 21d of the piston 21 contacts the ball 20. Since the exhaust hole 21e and the exhaust grooves 21f are simply provided in the piston body 21a formed as a single member, the structure of the exhaust passage is simple, and working of the exhaust passage is easy.

Abstract: The disclosed seat belt retractor may include a spool for retracting a seat belt, a torsion bar, a pre-tensioner, and a locking device. The torsion bar may disposed inside the spool, wherein one side of the torsion bar is connected to the spool, and configured to absorb energy of movement of an occupant while being deformed under torsion. The pre-tensioner may be positioned at one side of the spool and configured to generate a rotating drive force for rotating the spool in a retracting direction in a condition of rapid deceleration of a motor vehicle. The locking device may be capable of locking another side of the spool such that a rotation of the spool in a withdrawal direction is suppressed at both an operating time of the pre-tensioner and a non-operating time of the pre-tensioner.
