Vertical Cutter Tooth Orbit Patents (Class 299/78)
  • Patent number: 9004609
Abstract: A method for driving tunnels, galleries, shafts or the like with a driving device (1; 2; 15), including: that a cutting head (4) rotating around a general axis of rotation (R) and having cutting elements directed essentially radially outwardly is applied against a rock surface to be worked. The rock cutting elements (13), are formed on cutting rolls (7) are brought to roll against the rock side during pressing against the rock and rotation of the cutting head (4), and the rock cutting elements during rolling are brought to cut sidewardly arranged grooves in the rock surface at a distance from each other. The invention also concerns a rotatable cutting head and a device and a rig for driving tunnels, galleries, shafts or the like.

  • Patent number: 8950823
Abstract: A method and rig for driving tunnels, galleries, shafts or the like. The rig has a movable base unit that over a support unit supports a carrying unit which in turn carries a cutting head having outwardly directed cutting elements. The method includes rotating the cutting head around a general axis of rotation and applying the cutting head against a rock surface to be worked. The carrying unit is swung into a first chosen mutual position in respect of the support unit. The support unit is rotated into a second chosen mutual position with respect to the base unit around an axis that is essentially longitudinal with respect to the base unit. An angle of operation of the cutting head is controllable.

  • Patent number: 8789893
Abstract: The device for cutting and mixing of soils can be adapted to standard-equipped hydraulic excavators and facilitates the continuous cutting of sealing and stabilizing slits and mixing of stabilizing additives. The device is designed as a rotating and traversing combination tool. The cutting-mixing unit consists of a cutting drum (1) and a mixing drum (4) mounted on a common shaft in an upright housing (3). The cutting drum, which is equipped with front and peripheral teeth, loosens the soil to be processed. By disposing the cutting and breaking tools (2) at the front and periphery of the cutting drum, the loosened soil moves in the direction of the subsequent mixing drum. The mixing drum comprises a plurality of blades (5) separated by a distance along the peripheral surface arranged such that a flow arises opposite to the feed direction, said flow processing the loosened soil into a flowing mixture comprising the additives and the mixing water, said flowing mixture filling in the resultant slit.

  • Publication number: 20020176746
Abstract: A cutting head is provided for milling rumble strip depressions in a road surface. The cutting head has a center rotational axis and a transverse diameter that varies along the length of the rotational axis so that an outer cutting surface of the cutting head defines a plane curve, such as an ellipsoid with truncated ends. The cutting head is mounted on a milling machine and rotated about the rotational axis as it is moved alternately up and down into the road surface. As the milling machine moves down the road, the movement of the cutting head creates spaced apart rumble strip depressions in the road. Because of the elliptical configuration of the cutting head cutting surface, the dimensions of the depressions can be varied along both the forward and lateral axes by simply varying the depth of cut. The curved profile of the cutting head along the rotational axis creates rumble strip depressions that avoid the sharp ninety degree corners and vertical side walls found in conventional rumble strips.

  • Patent number: 4225189
Abstract: A cutter drum member of a continuous mining machine is rotatably mounted on the front end of the machine. The drum member includes an intermediate section and a pair of canted end sections. Cutting elements extend from the surface of the respective drum sections and provide a continuous cutting pattern along the entire length of the drum member. Input drive shafts extend through rear openings between the adjacent ends of the intermediate section and the end sections. Rotation is transmitted from the input drive shafts through meshing bevel gears and planetary gears to rotate the intermediate section. The adjacent ends of the intermediate section and end sections include meshing gear teeth secured to the external surface of the sections so that the canted end sections are driven by the external meshing gear teeth.

Abstract: In a drag bit excavating device having a plurality of cutting elements, each element comprising a core extending along an axis; a bit carrier supported on the core; cutter bits supported by the carrier along a three dimensional spiral having constant pitch and increasing radius along at least a portion of the axis, the carrier being relieved to provide radially extending spaces between the turns of the spiral; a frame supporting the core, carrier, and bits for rotation about and advance along the axis; and a drive to provide rotation, whereby bits slot the material to be excavated while the material between portions of the resulting slot extends into the spaces to be subsequently broken away; support means for supporting the elements in an array sloping along a plane with their respective axes parallel to each other, the plane sloping in a direction transverse to the axes, the axes being spaced along the plane in the direction of slope, the elements having their drives arranged so that each core, carrier, and

  • Patent number: 4080001
Abstract: An improved trim chain take-up is provided for mining machines in which the trim chain extends around the rotary cutting auger and the auger support arm and is driven by the auger to cut clearance for the support arm. The take-up includes a yoke slideably mounted behind each auger support arm in guide means affixed to the machine framework, and supports a cylindrical idler roller in a manner allowing free rotation of the roller. The idler roller bears against the inner side of the endless chain loop and tensions the chain when the yoke is pushed away from the auger support arm by push means mounted either on the frame or integral with the yoke. A locking device in the embodiment of a self-actuating wedge shaped spacer is included with the take-up to be positioned between the take-up and auger support arm to prevent the take-up from backing off even when the push means relaxes.

  • Patent number: 4080002
Abstract: An improved locking device for a trim chain take-up for mining machines in which the trim chain extends around the auger and the auger support arms and is driven by the auger to cut clearance for the support arm. The take-up is slidably mounted behind the auger support arm in guide means affixed to the machine frame. When the take-up is moved away from the support arm to increase the tension on the chain, the locking device moves into the space developed between the take-up and support arm to prevent the take-up from backing off and reducing the chain tension. The locking device comprises a plurality of thin spacers pivotably retained in a side-by-side stacked relationship on a rod mounted to the support arm. The spacers are further disposed such that they are held in an inoperative position resting on the take-up until the take-up has moved past their respective positions whereupon they pivot about the rod into the operative position between the take-up and support arm.
